As expected the a7R II is an amazing camera. The quality is great for photos and the 4k video is pretty great as well. The only complaint I have is that my camera came with a scratch on the rear screen. I really don't have the time to exchange it since I moved to this camera full time now. That's the only down side for me the fact that the camera didn't come pristine. Other than the imperfection I'm enjoying the a7R II.

It's a good camera for landscapes, but for everything else this camera is behind the times. AF is slow, video is very limited, AWB in artificial light is bad, skin tones can be terrible beyond repair.

Seemingly a great camera. Images are amazing. But, on 2nd paid shoot with the camera, I got home and the card was corrupted. Using San Disk Extreme Pro cards and have never had such an issue with any camera. I was able to extract all the pictures using recovery software but none of the important video I shot. All gone. Not sure what might have led to this. The whole shoot the camera seemed to run fine. If this didn't happen to me it would have been a 5 star review.

I shoot landscapes (seascapes) and have used Nikon cameras and lenses for most of my career. I had the idea that I could save some weight and space with the Sony A7RII, mainly because I believed that the OSS feature that combines lens and camera stabilization would allow me the option of handholding in situations that the Nikon D800E would not. Alas, I tried handholding at shutter speeds below 1/30s and no success. Sadly, then, I don't see the advantage to me of this system, since I would have to sell my Nikon lenses and D800E to acquire the lens inventory for the Sony. I have to otherwise give this superb Sony camera system five stars because I love the camera, but I just can't justify keeping it for the reason I purchased it. ... More

I gave my Nikon D300 to my daughter a couple years ago and bought an Olympus OMD-EM1. After my wife bought a Fujifilm X-T1 I sold the Olympus and picked up a X-T10 so we could interchange lenses. The X-T10 was a nice camera but I've always wanted a full frame camera and decided the mirrorless format was best for my purposes (a hobby for the last 50+ years). When I finally decided to buy, B&H was back-ordered! I looked around but for a purchase like this, I really only trust B&H after years of dealing with them and never being disappointed. When I finally saw the were in stock, I called and within 2 days I had my A7R II. It arrived in perfect condition and little by little I'm learning all the vast capabilities of this fine camera. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. ... More

I'm a semi-professional shooter and decided to rent the Sony as a backup for a 3 day shoot at a music festival. I've heard a lot of great things about the dynamic range in a compact body. I normally shoot Canon, either a 6D or Mark 3, and overall am very happy with Canon. For concerts I typically shoot with a 70-200, 2.8 and a 16-35, 2.8. I decided to fit the Sony with a metabones adapter and the 16-35, figuring this would be easier to start with than the 70-200 and not willing to risk artist close-ups to a new camera. I was told to shoot in crop sensor mode, otherwise I would experience vignetting. I ignored this as overall image quality was more important to me and I figured I could adjust the vignetting post-production. After 3 days full days of shooting and 1,500 shots (another 2,500 on my Canon 6D), I can honestly say I'm glad to be rid of this camera. Day 1: Just getting used to the camera, took about 350 shots. Shot in daylight and night. Set autofocus to single point autofocus, focused with the LCD screen and shot away. After uploading to Lightroom that night (and converting to DNG to be able to import to non-CC Lightroom versions), I realized 90% of my shots were blown due to focus issues. My Canon on the other hand was tack sharp 90% of the time. I decided to watch 20 minutes of focus tutorials that night to better understand the focus system. Day 2: Stuck with the 16-35 again. Tried the continuous focus setting without much better luck. Changed focus points around as I do this on my Canon to dial in faces of the artists. Got home - 60% of my shots are worthless. Those that were somewhat in focus still appeared flat and without the depth of a Canon shot. Day 3: Pretty disheartened to shoot a third day with the camera but kept at it. The lightweight body is nice and portable. Unfortunately, the focus is so slow even with the metabones adaptor it often doesn't lock on to anything. I missed a lot of great shots. Overall - would not recommend. ... More

I probably received a defective unit but I am nonetheless disappointed that that the only thing I was able to do with the camera was to turn it on, select the language, and set the camera date and time. After that, the camera would go into a loop/cycle of trying to turn on and then turning off. Needless to say, I was never able to fire a single shot. Again, this was probably just a defective unit but it is a very disappointing experience given that this was my first attempt to make the jump from DSLRs to Sony's flagship mirrorless camera. I will give this camera a one-star for now but will give it a second try and hope the experience of getting a new working replacement isn't too painful. ... More

I was thinking about switching brand but decided to stay with Canon after renting the Sony 7R II for a week. I noticed that the Sony gets very hot after shooting 80 frames continuously. That was the deal breaker. Great camera though
