I am new to SLR video. I bought this Mic because I wanted to hide the AF and exposure adjustment noises from my Nikon D3S. The camera noises are not totally gone, but 90% quieter that before. I have not used this Mic to it's fullest potential yet, and hope to have time to visit the Rode site and view tutorials there, to improve it's function. Sound quality is VERY good so far.

This VideoMic is a great accessory to my Canon 7D. the quality of sounds is very good. I recommend not turning any of the two sound filters that come with the mic. Build quality is great and it attaches perfectly to the camera without breaking its balance. I use it mainly for office training and testimonial videos.

I used this attached to a 5d Mark II at a concert. Within 3 hours of usage, the mount was loose and getting worse. The connection point is aluminum, and not engineered for an active environment. It's too bad too, as the mic itself was great. I just need it to handle the same level of activity as my 580 flash has taken over the past years without difficulty. I returned it.

This mic is fantastic and gives great audio for any video I take with my Canon Mark IV. It is light, the battery seems to last forever and is great on windy days. My only complaint is that my 3 year old son though I actually killed a kitten when I told him the wind guard was called a dead kitten. :-) It took some explaining.

I use this on my Nikon D7000 and it works great directly into the camera. I also use it by plugging it directly into my Zoom H1 line in input. Either way is great. Outside, throw on the dead kitten that comes with it and your ready to go. I've only had it a couple of weeks now and so far can't find anything wrong with it.

USE: inconspicuous option for shoe mounted microphone. PROS: Light but solid, quality construction. Included windscreen works very well. Stereo format with typical super-cardioid roll off. Can be mounted to a mic stand or boom arm. CONS: Not phantom powered. This makes it hard to get a recording totally free of hiss/hum, depending on your recording device.

This Mic has excellent performance and low noise; however, I purchased it to use with my Nikon D7000 and discovered the Nikon external mic pre-amp input stage is too noisy for an external mic connection. I initially tested the mic with an Apogee Duet 2 with Wave Lab 7 and found the mic to be very low noise with excellent stereo performance. The Nikon D7000 internal mic has very little noise; however, connecting a high quality external mic is not an option due to it's poor external mic input noise performance.

Works awesome in my video interviews. The dead kitten should be worn at all times because it cancels out mostly all unwanted noise. I say mostly because if you're on a bus, ummm... you're gonna hear it in the background. I love the mic, its a great upgrade from the VideoMic! I've used it sidestage to record live bands and it gets some clear stuff, just depends on how heavy/hardcore the band is.

The owners manual says range within 6', I was able to record a live band with a P.A. from over 20' away. When you listen to the audio, its like your there again. I think this a great addition to my live recordings.

I use the product with the Canon 5DM2. I have an extension cord for the mic and a boom. The sound is great--far better than the built in camera mic.

I use this microphone with a Canon 5D Mk 2 and Belkin GoStudio audio recorder. Amazing quality for the price. Should cost much more!

I bought the SVM to use with my new Canon HV40. At first I thought it wouldn't fit into the shoe, but with a little effort, it works fine. I used the microphone to record a live music event, and the video has great sound. I've also tried it outdoors in wind with the dead kitten cover, and it prevents wind noise on the tape.

Great addition to Canon HV30, love the way it picks up ambient sounds, very natural sounding. Quality product.

For recording a concert, it's perfect. For a train going by, it's perfect. But for a river rolling bye, it is no better than the on-camera mic because directional sensitivity means little in that case. Great at a party too.

I have used the stereo Rode VideoMic to tape an indoor musical production. The sound is clear and doesn't appear to have much distortion. I am pleased with how it works. The camera prompts you to make sure you turn on the external microphone. One does need an adaptor to make it work.

This is an excellent mic to replace low end camera mounted mics that come with consumer rigs or for consumer cameras that don't come with an external mic. Far, far from pro, but nice for home movie types or for school video programs (where I use it).

I bought this microphone in an attempt to gain better natural sound with my Canon 7D. I must say I was disappointed with the results. I tested the sound with the microphone connected and with the -10db filter as well as the high pass filter switched on. The results were all unsatisfactory. I would even go as far as to say the built in camera microphone provided better sound than the microphone itself. No matter where I was shooting whether it be interior or exterior there was always a hiss.

Nice piece of gear and really reduces camera and lens noise. There is no problem using the viewfinder with this mic attached to the hotshoe. Allthough one reviewer noted that mounting the mic on the hotshoe prevented or hindered viewfinder use, there is no problem.

I've only used it a few times so far but it seems to work way better than the onboard mic on the 5D Mark II.
