Purchased this product for my Canon T2i. I wanted to improve the sound quality when shooting video's. The SMX-10 made a significant improvement and for the cost, it is a good deal. I mostly shoot family activities and was looking for a little better sound quality and less back ground noise. I wish it had an on/off light, but for now, I will carry extra batteries!

I use this mic instead of the on-board on my Vixia. It is way better than the on-board mic simply because it cuts down on the sound of the motor. I find it's not very sensitive though and I still have to get pretty close to a subject to get good sound. For the money this a good mic, but if you really want quality you're gonna have to splurge a little more price wise.

Use this with my Canon T2i. Do not get this mic if you have a T2i and are not using MAGIC LANTERN third party firmware. There is a horrible, loud hiss when used without this firmware since the sound is automatic on the camera. When used with the firmware however, the mic is phenomenal. Great range, good, clear sound. The only bad thing is that it has no light on the mic to signify if it is on or not, which is a pretty big deal, but I make due.

Hoped to use this microphone for an externally mounted shotgun on a video camera. Turns out it's very small and light, complete with a nice shock mount and coiled cable. BUT, it's very noisy, when integrated with the Panasonic AG-HMC40 video camera with both on-camera and external AG-MYA30G XLR adapter , it sounds as if there's an air conditioner running constantly in the background. It might be useful for outdoor ENG activities, but for spot miking in quiet ambience environments it's not acceptable unless you like a lot of background hiss.

Unfortunately, the SMX-10 stereo mic doesn't pick up sounds as quiet as one would imagine. It IS stereo, which is nice, but has a lot of white noise behind what is being recorded. I'm not sure of a remedy, but I most likely will simply stick with my old microphone for now.

I use this on a Canon D60, largely to capture reference sound. It's doing the job just fine. Like others have said, one must remember to turn it off to avoid battery drain, but how's that any different than any other mic in this class? As a low cost mic it's great for the work I do--run & gun in hostile backcountry environments--so it's low price is a bonus too. If you damage it, you're not out that much.

To get rid of excessive wind noise, especially when filming in Fraser and Thompson Canyon, I decided on this item after reading several reviews. It's probably the best bang for the buck! As mentioned this is the second one, since the first one really lived up to my expectations. It does a fine job as is, but just to make doubly sure my equal half fashioned a fuzzy to go over the foam wind suppressor.

Plan on using it for videos for hunting, the mic has been tested in several environments and has proven itself a winner. The built in mic has a hard time picking up some conversations and does not filter out background noise...this mic is doing both well. Recommend this to enhance your audio without breaking the bank.

I mounted this microphone to my Canon VIXIA HV40 camcorder and I'm extremely pleased with the sound quality. Much better than the internal microphones. It's short, lightweight, easy to mount and easy to use, and it comes with a foam wind screen. Overall a very good investment.

I'm an actor and use this mic (at the B&H staff's recommendation for a value pro-sumer solution) for self-tape auditions only. In this controlled environment it does exactly what I need. So far I've been able to attach it on a dual shoe mount right beside my camcorder andclearly capture dialogue from 5-8' away. Highly recommend for this use.

We use with a Canon T2i. The mike is well balanced and lightweight. The sound quality is excellent for home movies. The pickup is balanced even if the subject dips or turns their head during recording.

Using this on a Canon 7D and an HV20. Solid construction and easy installation. Love that it's stereo. Used it on a recent job with good results, but likely would avoid the cut filter. It did reduce background noise, but the audio was fairly tinny and lacked bass (more so than I have experienced with other mics). Can't beat the price though.

The built in mic on my Canon HG10 left much to be desired, but the Azden SMX-10 has brought my audio to the next level. It's very light weight...It easily mounts to the shoe and I'm ready to go. I am incredibly happy with it and impressed with how little battery power it uses, I've been using the same AAA battery for several weeks continuously and it's still working perfectly. I am very happy with this microphone..I would recommend it to everyone!

I like how compact it is! It was recommended with the new Canon HFS11 however it does not fit very nicely into the top of the camera. I had to cut and trim the mount to fit correctly. However it was worth it!!! The only thing is I wish I had a longer cord because while filming if you turn away from your subject use loose performance but thats what not what a directional mic was intented.

I use this with my kodak zi8 and the quality of the audio is rediculously better than the onboard one. The mic is small yet powerful, the shockmount is cheap but what do you expect for a stereo mic under $100? My biggest gripe is that there is no power led showing that the battery in the mic isn't dead. It would also be nice if they either made the mini-jack a right angle or threw in a 90 degree adaptor

This lightweight mic serves its purpose for recording. I use it with the Canon 7D for interviews. For the price you can't beat it. The sound quality is really descent. You may want to buy a better filter though.

I have been using the microphone in recordings with my Canon EOS 60D and there is some phasing, echo, reverb effect. The sound from Azden SMX-10 is not as clear as the Rode and I could hear other noises I didn't want.

Just came in the mail today :) I love the sound quality. People complain about the hissing and although it was pretty bad at first, once I figured out how to change all the audio settings on my Canon HF M500 that I just got today as well it sounded fine. All that I was wanting for $ anyways. Would have rated 5 stars but the package was missing the mount for the mic! Boy was I upset when I saw it wasn't in there. I just hope they are helpful with sending me the missing part when I call /: ... More

I used this for two back-to-back jobs - a business conference and a wedding - on the day after I received it and was happy with the results. Using a homemade bracket to get the mic away from my noisy HV20, I got good audio. I kept the levels low, due to the HV20's poor pre-amps, but was able to bring it up to a good level in post, with no noticeable noise. For the price, I don't think I could have asked for more.

Very pleased with my purchase of the SMX-10. I use this on my Canon 5D Mk.2, recording engagement surprises mostly. Works very effectually on my Canon 5D with the audio better than what I expected. Very power microphone for it size and exactly what I needed. Its compact size stores neatly in my camera bag, ready for use when needed.
