This was my second pair of AT headphones. I still have and use the AT-M50, but needed to have a back up pair on hand. I love the M50 for their comfort, ergonomics, and listening pleasure. The new M50X has all of that and maybe they are just a little smoother; perhaps richer sounding - either way I really like them. I have a 1,400.00 pair of reference headphones and these are not that; no the ATs are just the ones I enjoy the most. As for the Crane Laptop Stand - so far so good. It is rather difficult to set up and collapse, but is very stable and I love the adjustability. When closed, it takes up a remarkably small amount of space in my work box. It is fitting my needs and I have no regrets at all. ... More

These are decent... but don't believe the reviews that say these are totally accurate for mixing on... pretty comfortable to wear, and good isolation, but they are really hyped in the upper mids... I use them as a tool to cross-check the mids content on my mixes... it's like putting a magnifying glass on the guitars and vocals... stuff that sounds fine on my decent monitors and other headphones will often singe my ears when I strap these on... pretty fatiguing too if using to listen to MP3s or whatever for recreational purposes. I've got the white "Liberace Christmas Special" edition and I'm going to keep them around... but I think my old standby AKG 240's beat 'em by a mile it your looking for relatively flat/transparent cans you can check your mixes on. ... I purchased this product with a mind for using it with my electronic keyboard. I already own a Sony MDR 7506 that performs exceedingly well but did not have a detachable cable. I saw the reviews for various uses with these headphones was good but when I received them found that the sound of my Yamaha P-515 keyboard was tinny and unnatural when using them. Great disappointment as I had high hopes. Back to the Sony until I can actually test a set of headphones in store. Thank you for your great store.

I will be using this headset mostly to listen as I play keyboard to record. It is very clear and clean and I can hear everything from my Korg and if you know anything about Korg there are all kinds of sounds that make up the sounds that are on there and all kinds of nuances that need to be heard. By this headset being so clear it helps in my creativity and flow of playing to write music as I record and create at the same time. I don't like the bag that they use to store it in, for it is, too, small. They should make it a fitted case instead of giving a headset stand for it that is only in my way. I put things away when I am done with things and do not leave things out collecting dust or exposed. ... More

I'm a professional music educator and listen to all kinds of music from classical to jazz to marching band, to pop and rock. Audio Technica's ATH-M50x is a top-notch headphone, very clear, plenty of bass, nothing out of balance (unless the engineer mixed it that way, of course). Mine get their sound through an Audioengine D1 DAC, and it's a fantastic combination. This particular model, a limited-edition DG (for dark green), is something different from the typical black, though the green is very dark indeed. The brown leather makes a nice contrast, and I like having headphones that don't look the same a standard black. I also own these in the BL edition, with blue plastic parts and lighter brown leather. Sweet headphones for under $! ... More

ATH-X50. This review is for build quality only. I am not qualifified to rate audio. I use these for field recording, and for my requirements, they are excellent. They fold to fit into my audio bag, and the quick detachable signal cord allows easy change to match conditions. I have no suggestions for how they could be improved for field use. If you need full ear cupping, these are not the headphones for you. Small ear cups make the folding design possible, and would limit my use of them for long listening. I have other headphones for that use. Overall the construction appears to substantal, and robust. Qualities needed for field use. My purchase of them came with three cords, and a carry bag. I am really happy with the purchase. ... More

I used to settle for $30 or so pairs of headphones, but finally when those broke, I went for the ATH-M50Xs. They sound incredible. They are the best headphones I've extensively listened to (I've tried on some $300 pairs, but I honestly couldn't tell the difference). The highs are good. The mids are good. The lows are good. Everything is super clear. Soundwise, they are incredible. The headphones are also very comfortable. I have had them on for hours on end and they don't make my ears sore, and they don't feel heavy at all. I have a smaller head, so my only complaint is that they sometimes slide forward when I lean my head down, but I can easily manage it. I would recommend these headphones easily to anyone. They sound good, they are comfortable, and very good for just about anything. ... More

I use these for practicing drums and guitar by mixing in recorded music. The flat eq is great for molding the sound as you wish. Also there is clear definition of all instruments in the recording. These have got to be the best thing going for under $ and even match the sound of $ plus phones, just don't have the features such as Bluetooth and noise cancelling.

I can see why these have been around for so many years. This headphone is mostly made of plastic, but it appears to be quality plastic. The sound reproduction of music is detailed and the bass is accentuated just ever so slightly so as to enhance the music experience without distorting it with too much bass. Stays on my head comfortably, not too much side pressure on the head and ears. These are really a good set of headphones, plain and simple.

These headphones are everything you would want and more. They provide great versatility and portability because they come with removable audio cables of varying lengths. The sound quality is exceptional for this price range. Note though that these are headphones that are meant for professional studio use so their bass is limited. They're also extremely comfortable. The ear pads are very cushiony and offer a snug fit. I wear them almost 8-10 hours a day at work without any annoyance. I definitely recommend them to anyone looking to spend a modest amount of money for excellent sound. They're definitely worth it! ... More

If you're looking for over the ear headphones with minimal coloring of your sound these can't be beat for what you'll pay for them. They seem to walk that fine line between adding too much bass & color and sounding so accurate that all but the finest quality jazz and classical recordings sound bad (what I noticed when listening to some of the higher priced incredibly accurate / flat headphones on the market. My one and only gripe is that while there's three different cords provided, none provide an in line mic or controls for use with a smart phone so if you're planning on using with a phone, you'll need to dig it out of your pocket to answer any calls. ... I haven't had a chance to wear these headphones for any length of time more than three or four hours, but I can definitely say that assuming they don't become wildly uncomfortable everything else works as promised. Sound quality is great, detachable cable is very useful, overall I very munch enjoy the purchase. I heard that the M40x was made less durable so I sprang for these, and haven't (obviously) stress tested them but they seem to be made of sturdy stuff.

Headphones arrived before I was expecting them. The fit is a bit tight... I'm guessing that will loosen up over time and use. The first thing I noticed was that the bass notes were super-sized. It grabbed and exited my attention immediately. The overall sound jumps out at you in ways that one would expect from a far more expensive set of phones. Best money I ever spent. I've already recommended the purchase of them to two friends. My sons have asked me three times if they could borrow them. I may make my money back if that continues...

These phones reveal audio that I didn't think my ears could sense. Audio-wise, they are fantastic. After over an hour in 80 degrees, my ears still didn't sweat somehow. Despite the flexibility, they feel real solid. There is not enough padding for the head though. Since they are heavy, they weigh on the top of the head and hurts after just a few minutes. I hope Audio-Technica adds more padding here or offers additional padding for those whose own hair isn't soft or thick enough.

Like many other reviewers say, the sound is excellent, with a neutral balanced sound to my ears. Having read other previous reviewers, and having a somewhat large cranium, I was concerned these would be uncomfortable, but that has essentially not been the case. On one occasion after long use I had minor discomfort, but I just slightly adjusted how they were positioned on my head and it went away. Maybe these were previously stretched by the manufacturer. Whatever the case, at the very least I think if someone else finds them too tight, perhaps using them for a period of time will break them in and mitigate this. Once again though, I don't find discomfort to be an issue. ... More

PLEASE NOTE I HAVE NOT USED THESE HEADPHONES LONG AND PLAN TO UPDATE THIS AT A LATER POINT. After a few hours of listening, I can say without a doubt that these are the best headphones I own currently. Their over the ear design along with the superb seal around your ears make most noises (Like walking on hardwood flooring & Typing) almost inaudible. They are comfortable and offer a great range of sound. I come from a novice DJ background and up until now the only way to match the quality that these headphones give was to pump up my Behringes B215D's (Each at 550 Watts) and let the music flow. Now, I don't have to wake my neighbors up just to listen to music with the highest clarity possible. ... More

I bought these with the impression that they'd be the best set of closed back headphones at this price point. I was wrong. The sound signature to these is V Shaped, but more present mids than the standard M50's. The bass is muffled, and the very high frequencies are quite sibilant. I find the placement of the drivers too close to my skull, even physicalling hurting my ears after long durations of wearing. It would probably be better with a larger set of ear cup. All problems aside, I really like the portability, packaging, the 3 detachable cords, and the carrying pouch. ... More

I had damaged my BO H6 headphones and was not in the mood to repurchase. These did the job. They are not leather, however are made with a very comfortable substitute. I have a very large head and pretty large ears compared to an average person and have had always a hard time finding comfortable headphones. These fit great, have large ear cups, and my ears can withstand 8 hours of continued wear. Simply amazing sound quality and fairly cheep replacement cables compared to Sennheiser or other brands.

These headphones are excellent for multipurpose use. They are crystal clear, particularly in the mid-lower areas. The bass is certainly heavier than one might need for mixing/producing, but it's not overbearing. If you need a flat sound source, go for the M40s instead. These work for mixing as long as you're compensating for the amped up low end. Don't sleep on these things- the value for money is excellent, especially considering that the cable can be replaced. They should last you a very long time.

first of all, this is not a noise cancellation headphone. If you are looking for NC, go to Bose. However let's face this, under$, you could get a headphone quality is way better than beats or the main stream brands in the market, you better know where you put your money. Think about all the commercial those overrated headphone has, all those super star will cost money, and you will the one to pay for it. Have you seen any major commercial for this headphone? and why they are still popular among professional users, it's all common sense now.
