So i finally got some M50X'sand they are everything people hype them up to be. nice looking, really stinking comfortable and they have good quality in the music. love the detachable chords and the sweet leather carry pouch.really even the unboxing was a thrill to do. i had some sony previous to these and then some Beats Mixr's (White and gold, they were sweet!) so once i listened to my music i was kinda disappointed, the beats and sonys had a lot of bass, the ATH's don't....... in fact they are more flat and clear than bassy and thumpy. and i listen to primarily rap and hip hop, so thats a minus in my way, but if you are looking for some solid sounding headphones for $150 or less, these are the way to go. i just wish they had more bass, at least some, it really doesn't even have any, funny thing is, you can hear the kick drum sound of the bass, just not the MEATY part. ... I searched for months for headphones that were all about the audio. No fancy materials, no phone compatibility, no gimmicks. I wanted all my money to go for sound quality. My headphone use is purely home studio. I do not travel with them and I don't use them with portable devices. These are exactly what I was looking for and cost 3 times less than I would have been willing to pay for a set of studio headphones. The materials may be budget no metals, woods or leathers but the quality is top notch. The only drawback I can see would be that they could be too bulky for portable use, no smartphone controls, and no noise canceling. For my use these are all bonuses as it keeps the cost down and focused on the sound quality and makes for a greater value. I listen to a wide variety of music and these produce them all beautifully at any volume. I would recommend these to anyone who is looking for high end sound at a great value. ... More

I just got this after having used my AKG K-52 since 2016! When looking at reviews, the Audio-Technica M50x seemed to get a lot of attention and I was ready to take the leap of faith. I've watched reviews and heard experiences from both professionals who demonstrated with real-time pro grade setups and also from absolute noobs (like me) who love to learn more everyday. Wow. This headphone did amaze me. I let it burn-in for a few days and then started using it. The difference in sound quality was huge. The snug fit of the pleather cushion over the ears are very comfortable and give it a good seal to block out a majority of the external sound. The range is great too. For the same sound tracks under the same EQ settings, I could definitely hear more frequencies and the sound seemed much richer and fuller. The loudness is very nice too. Very happy with the purchase. The package comes with 3 different cables of varying styles and length for convenience. ... More

I tried out the following headphones side by side:1. Beats Studio ($)2. Bose QC25 ($)3. Audio-Technica ATH-M50X ($)I didn't care much about noise cancellation because it hurts my ears if I listen to more than an hour. It appears good when you put them on in a store and listen to a few songs, but not as much when you put them on for a few hours. But AT had great sound, incredible price and the comfortable design allows me to wear them for about 3-4 hours at a stretch without feeling hurt. The best part irrespective of comfort was just the pure sound. The ATH sounded so good compared to even the Bose QC25. You have to listen them side to side in order to feel the difference. But the bass is just amazing on the ATH. Love them for my punjabi music. ... More

I've used these on a daily basis for the past couple of years. First off, the sound quality is excellent. Compared to the M40's I had before the difference is significant, but compared to Beats or earbuds the difference is night and day. Are they colored? Sure. Hyped? not really. Clear and detailed? Yes. I use these for mixing and for general listening purposes and I never really have the desire to buy "better" or more expensive headphones. That being said, the leather/pleather will wear down and crack overtime. Doesn't really affect the mechanical performance of the headphones, but the physical appearance of these headphones will degrade over time. Other than that the connection with the removable cord has become a bit dodgy overtime, not sure if it's the cord or headphones themselves. Eventually I will probably have to replace these headphones...with another pair of M50's ... More

Found these open box headphones for $45 less than the regular price. Could barely tell the difference between a new pair of headphones and the open box ones. Headphones arrived quickly within 2 business days. Excellent value. There is not much that can be said about ATH-M50x headphones that hasn't already been said. Though I do think they have been getting an unfair bad rep recently. The bass is not as thumpy as it is made out to be and the treble is not as harsh or jarring either. Overall, I think these are excellently balanced headphones. For a little over $100, I do not think there are headphones with better sound quality. If you have only ever used cheap sub $100 headphones, these will absolutely blow then out of the water. I got them as an upgrade to my previous M20X headphones, and these are absolutely worth the money. ... More

These are pretty amazing headphones. I wear them for hours during the night when I must be quiet while producing, mixing, etc...and they are very comfortable. I mix and produce music and I've found that checking the bass on these has become a key part of my workflow as I don't own a sub for my desktop monitors setup. These are so great I own 3 pairs. They work really well with a plugin I use to simulate a professional monitor booth. The plugin has a preset specifically for these headphones and it seems to translate really well. ... More

I'm a freelance writer, producer and performer and constantly have to listen to demos and work on quite a bit of music from contemporary to classical, live to film. I needed a quick, affordable, pair of studio headphones I could use to mix on the go that would crush my sensitive ears, and I found that in these. What's great about it is that it has a very well-rounded sound. As far as I'm concerned, I was worried that I would get a pair that unnecessarily boosts certain frequencies thus ruining the environment in which I mix in. The detachable and interchangeable cords are also very convenient. The only thing that tops that is the fact that they fold inward and are compact enough to carry around. So far, I haven't experienced anything negative about them, and they feel pretty durable to me; especially after already having a pretty intense accident with them but coming out completely unscathed. ... I use my headphones everyday and they are an essential party of my travel accessories. The highs and lows are crisp, clear and robust. I'm a petite woman and find the feel and look complimenting. They are very comfortable to wear for long periods while traveling and no battery design is a plus plus plus! Audio-Technics will always be part of my listening needs.

Long time composer, engineer, and temporarily stuck without my own studio for three months on-location. I picked these up and am thrilled! They are full, rich, true. The only con is I found I over-compensated for the low end, but now that I've heard my work on several playback sources, I know how to handle my low ends. But that's going to be true with any headphone or audio monitor. Highly recommend these. I want to comment on reviews that talk about headphones being uncomfortable after wearing them awhile. Well, if you wear any pair of headphones long enough for them to be uncomfortable, then you've been sitting down and working for too long, your ears are now normalizing and you're not hearing properly. Get up, walk around, come back later, period. I love these headphones! ... More

I used these to replace an aging pair of Sony headphones. Overall, the clarity is fantastic. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but this was a big step up for me. They are a little lacking in bass, but the bass itself is clear, audible, and without rumble. The highs are crisp and so far I've heard no tinniness to the sound. Vocals stand out exceptionally well. They clamping pressure is tight though. I found I couldn't wear them for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time before they started to become painful. I used paperback books to stretch them out a bit though by placing them over the books (oriented like my head) overnight for a few nights and can now comfortably wear them for longer periods of time. So far I've used them for practicing bass guitar (again, the bass isn't deep, but it is clear and mixes in well), music, and computer gaming and am overall very pleased. ... More

The headphones are an attractive piece of work, and although many people will like the sound I found two aspects which made me return them. (A process handled with great professionalism). First these are not comfortable phones. The pressure over the ears was so bad as to make extended listening impossible. Second, there was virtually no sense of sound stage or separation of instruments. The sound of these headphones may well appeal to many buyers. I'm personally opting for an open back design which eliminates the negative factors and are superior in detail, sound stage and comfortable extended use. The only way for a consumer to compare headphones is to deal with a reliable seller, listen to them and then decide if they are right for you. This is true of most audio gear. Hope this helps. I'm a little bit of a headphone buff, and my use is oriented to studio tracking and live sound work rather than audiophile listening. I've owned several sets of cans (AKG K141, Shure SRH940, SRH 440) and used many others. I tend to appreciate flatter frequency responses and a comfortable fit with a build that feels sturdy. With all this in mind I have to say that I'm very pleased with these ATH-M50x phones. They feel great in the hands and on the head+ears, and they sound great too. I was concerned that the bottom end would sound exaggerated for my taste, but that hasn't proven a problem with these. They have a beefier form factor than the K141s and are of course close-backed, and they seem more rugged to me than the SRH line which feature too much plastic for my preference. The sound is great for my use: pleasant for listening but flat enough for critical reference. ... More

ATH-X50. This review is for build quality only. I am not qualifified to rate audio. I use these for field recording, and for my requirements, they are excellent. They fold to fit into my audio bag, and the quick detachable signal cord allows easy change to match conditions. I have no suggestions for how they could be improved for field use. If you need full ear cupping, these are not the headphones for you. Small ear cups make the folding design possible, and would limit my use of them for long listening. I have other headphones for that use. Overall the construction appears to substantal, and robust. Qualities needed for field use. My purchase of them came with three cords, and a carry bag. I am really happy with the purchase. ... More

I used to settle for $30 or so pairs of headphones, but finally when those broke, I went for the ATH-M50Xs. They sound incredible. They are the best headphones I've extensively listened to (I've tried on some $300 pairs, but I honestly couldn't tell the difference). The highs are good. The mids are good. The lows are good. Everything is super clear. Soundwise, they are incredible. The headphones are also very comfortable. I have had them on for hours on end and they don't make my ears sore, and they don't feel heavy at all. I have a smaller head, so my only complaint is that they sometimes slide forward when I lean my head down, but I can easily manage it. I would recommend these headphones easily to anyone. They sound good, they are comfortable, and very good for just about anything. ... More

I will be using this headset mostly to listen as I play keyboard to record. It is very clear and clean and I can hear everything from my Korg and if you know anything about Korg there are all kinds of sounds that make up the sounds that are on there and all kinds of nuances that need to be heard. By this headset being so clear it helps in my creativity and flow of playing to write music as I record and create at the same time. I don't like the bag that they use to store it in, for it is, too, small. They should make it a fitted case instead of giving a headset stand for it that is only in my way. I put things away when I am done with things and do not leave things out collecting dust or exposed. ... More

I bought these headphones instead of the Klipsch status after hearing excellent reviews. After doing so I realize that, while they sound great for the price and my goodness are they comfortable, they don't quite have the treble clarity of most Klipsch products. They are better for mixing/recording thanks to that near flat frequency response, and offer a better midtone response. They also have very good noise isolation on both sides (I don't hear ambient noise, and more importantly, there is no noise leak). I don't necessarily regret the discission, but I do question it. For most people I would recommend still them. ... More

I've been a producer/engineer for many years and have used my fair share of headphones expensive and otherwise. These are quite a pleasant surprise! Full tight sound, not over-hyped in the low end, actually rather flat in response but full in sound. Smooth highs and clean, present mids. Excellent soundstage and very comfortable, very good for mixing. Build quality is good, some plastic parts - especially in the hinges - might not last long but the jury's out on that one. They perform like phones costing much more. B&H as always the best service and delivery. Highly recommended!

I'm a professional music educator and listen to all kinds of music from classical to jazz to marching band, to pop and rock. Audio Technica's ATH-M50x is a top-notch headphone, very clear, plenty of bass, nothing out of balance (unless the engineer mixed it that way, of course). Mine get their sound through an Audioengine D1 DAC, and it's a fantastic combination. This particular model, a limited-edition DG (for dark green), is something different from the typical black, though the green is very dark indeed. The brown leather makes a nice contrast, and I like having headphones that don't look the same a standard black. I also own these in the BL edition, with blue plastic parts and lighter brown leather. I currently own several pairs of headphones (2 Sennheiser, 2 AKG, 1 Grado) and that doesn't include in-ear/earbuds. The ATH-M50x's are my favorite! Great sound, comfortable & easy to drive. I like that they come with 3 different cable lengths. They are over ear, meaning a little bigger, but that helps seal out external sounds. Highly recommended!
