Great lens all-around!
I purchased this for my upcoming trip abroad, as I wanted to be able to bring only one lens with me. I'm using it with a Hasselblad Lunar (images attached). For a mirrorless system, it is somewhat large, but if you're accustomed to carrying big DSLRs (like myself), I don't think it's a problem. The pictures that come out are crisp, and because of the versatility, I've been able to capture a range of subjects. I do wish the f-stop was lower, but t... Show More

This lens is underrated by a lot of lens reviews
Im an advance amateur and have used many highly rated lenses. Coming from the Canon camp - I have owned most of the Canon L zoom lenses: 16-35L, 24-105L, 24-70L, 70-200Ls, and 100-400L plus primes: 35mm f1.4L, 100mm f2.8L, and 135mm f2L.Its almost 7 years that I own this lens since switching to the Sony mirrorless camp in 2011. Since then, I have purchased and currently own the Sony 24mm f1.8, Sony 55mm f1.8, Zeiss Touit 32mm f1.8, Zeiss Touit 12... Show More

Big results requires the big lens!
People who have trouble with low light or focusing with this lens should use it with better camera. I bought my A6300 with the original 16-50mm small lens then upgraded to the SEL18200 to discover the camera could deliver so much more than I expected. When fitted on the A6300/A6500 cam, this lens has amazing autofocus and stabilisation performance because of the much greater number of AF points than on the NEX series of cams. Although quite... Great all rounder
The lens is built well, feels solid. It's a bit heavy but nothing too bad. Focus and zoom are very smooth, images are sharp (check out the DX0 mark on this lens, it's one of the sharper ones Sony makes). I'd highly recommend this over the kit lens in terms of image quality and overall versatility.

Excellent lens that meets my needs
While on a brief visit to India, I fought back against the limitations of the two kit lenses for my a6000. I realized that I needed a lens with a very wide range. I needed to transition from wide angle for scenes to get close to a figure nearby. Changing lenses in the field posed too much risk of sand and dust. At home I also do sports photography and need to cover distance but also the player coming in close. This lens is meeting all of these needs. The small size and relatively light weight also function well with the a6000 body. I may find some limits down the road but none so far.

This is my best lens ever!
I love this lens! It may not be G glass but its a great bang for your buck. I'v used it from landscapes in Greece. To the eclipse in totality in Tennessee. Its a great over all lens and is my main lens for filming to. The focus is fast and the image is crisp. I wish it had a lower F-stop, but for $900 its just fine.

I would buy again.
The only drawback to this lens is that I received it the day before I left for the vacation for which I purchased the lens. I feel if you purchase it, you should have an hour or so....or maybe more....to play around with it to make sure you know it! Same with any photographic equipment. I did get to know it pretty fast and it is a great lens! Works better with a tripod, obviously any telephoto type lens would. However, shooting from a skiff, it still did great. On some of the photos, I took two shots as insurance and that worked til I got totally comfortable with the lens. Would recommend.

The 18-200 lens is a good multi use lens
The lens lock is good to keep the lens from extending when not in use. Also, I like tightness of the lens for adjusting the focal length.

Great Lens
I've only had this lens and my new Sony A6300 for a short time and have only shot with it a few times but so far I'm extremely happy with it. The lens and camera combined are a nice comfortable weight and the photo quality has been excellent. So far so good. I couldn't be happier.

Good
I like the range of the lens, I can only take this single one with me, but it takes a second or two to focus so if you are trying to catch something quickly this might not be right for you.

Definitely worth the money
I thought long and hard about getting this lens. It's 50% more expensive than the Sony a6000 body, so it's not a small investment. But I took it, along with a 38mm, each attached to a Sony a6000 body, on a photo workshop in Cuba this spring. It's heavy. It's somewhat bulky. It is worth it? Yes! It is a great piece of glass. When I want flexibility to cover close ups and more distant shots, this lens handles it all. Its focus is surprisingly fast.... Show More

Worth it in every way.
This is the second SEL18200 that I've owned -- I rather foolishly sold my first one a couple of years ago, but I sure missed it, and thus I bought this new one. Extended-range lenses like this are always some kind of compromise, but the compromises in this lens are in how it is bigger and heavier and more expensive than most others -- and thus, the compromises are not in the optics or the image stabilization or the price, so you get what you pay ... An awesome action sports lens
I work as a ski resort videographer, and this is my go too lens for action. Admittedly, its not as crisp as its Cannon and Nikon counterparts, but its autofocus is superb and works great at 240fps. At its retail price, this lens is really a bargain for shooting fast action over a wide depth of field. I should add that this lens is somewhat fragile

Heavy but Excellent All-in-One.
I am a retired pro, and moved to Sony e-mount system to reduce weight and space needs. Although this lens is fairly heavy, it's a great one lens fits all for travel, and very sharp, even at 200 mm. I was worried about speed of auto-focusing, as I have been frustrated by the Sony 55-210 kit lens. I tested the lens at a soccer game, shooting at f6.3 using the a6000's 11 fps motor drive, and marveled at the speed and sharpness of the auto focus. I was also happy to find that auto focus work well on the Nex 7's contrast detection only AF system.

Love this lens
Great for low light with wide angle. Good for travel photography. Lightweight and compact fits in a purse easily.

Foggie and slow
This lens came with my Sony NEX-FS100 and I never use it on that camera. It has fogged on me 3 times. This requires opening the front element and cleaning the inside of the front lens. Sony should have made this lens better for the elements. I gave it 3 stars because of the results I get when using it with my NEX-7. I love it for a photo lens, but not on my big video camera.

Great Lens. Great on quality and size.
I want this lens to travel. The image quality and versatility are the strongest pros. The zoom and focus zoom are smooth. Much better than some Canon lenses i've tried. But the lens have a design issue to use with Nex 6, 5 or 6 cameras: The diamenter of 67mm is too high and cover the AF assistance lamp. Ok, in outdoor conditions, this won't be necessary, but is a issue that you have to know. Keep you kit lens to use the camera flash and AF assistance lamp in indoors situations. And she is a little heavier than I expected. But its ok. Nice piece of glass.Great finish material.

Great All-round Lens - New Life on a6000
I acquired this lens when I purchased a NEX-VG10 video camera and really liked its range and flexibility with that camera, but have used it most on my NEX-7 and most recently on my new Sony a6000 mirrorless body. With phase detection on that camera body (and lens firmware upgrade to v.02) this lens has gained new life as an amazingly fast focuser. It's a whole new world using the 179 phase detection points, along with 25 point contrast detection.... Show More

Almost one lens fits all
This lens sits on my NEX7 and it is great for outdoors with lots of sun. Once you are inside, it takes a second or two to focus in low light. I love shooting macro and this lens some what gives me that option. I would love to get more macro images out of it but it has it's limitations. Also, when carrying lens down, it creeps out (zooms out). The ring moves tight when zooming in and out especially when doing video. Over all not a bad lens, I shot... Show More

why it is a great lens
based on video applications with sony Nex fs 700. the lens is great because in reality you don't have no other choice...unless you want to go fully manual in shooting video...which is a bit of headaches for sports etc... Beware that adding the sony LA EA2 and a superb lens like the carl zeiss 24/70 f2,8 on a nex Fs 700 will give you no aperture control.the default aperture will be set at F 3,5. unless you think to get stuck at F3,5 on vido is gre... poor quality
poor quality at high zoom range. my other maker outfit with 70-300mm was superb at ALL ranges of the zoom. I have given the Sony to a son who thinks it is adequate but I regret using it at max. zoom on my Africa safari. It is very adequate at the 18-30mm zoom range but not the lens for me.

VERY Impressed
I've been using this lens on a Sony NEX-5n for one year and I've only been more and more impressed with it the more I use it. Pros: - Incredible image stabilization at full zoom. - Very sturdy construction - Impressive image quality for an 18-200 lens. Cons: - Very heavy - Lens creep If you have a Sony NEX camera, this is the first lens you should buy. It does a lot and does it surprisingly well.

Great lens
I have this lens mounted on a NEX 6 camera. I use this setup for outdoors pictures. I find the lens very sharp through the whole zoom range. The lens is not all that heavy, as some have said. It is about the same as my 17-40 cannon. the color and picture quality I Think are better then the 7D with the 17-40 lens Sony pictures are a little cooler, and more true to life at least in the outdoors. Too slow!
Just because there aren't any other lens comparable to it, it's a good acquisition, but it's absurdly heavy and slow!Sony is too wealthy and has an unbelievable amount of technology to place in the market a lens with these kind of flaws!I've checked the new release with a huge motor under it, to make the focus less noisy, and it cost US more$ ! Ridiculous! At this size, it should be faster with a better focus!
