Very Sharp and Outstanding Build Quality
First and foremost, you should be aware that you'll need another lens aside from the 18-200mm, to take flash pictures. The 18-200 lens barrel obstructs the lower part of the flash output at anything less than 50mm. Sony made a big mistake here in not supplying a 'flash extender' with the lens and at this time of writing, it is not available for purchase either. Moreover, it would have nice if Sony included a lens pouch or carrying case for the le... Show More

I am Shocked at How Good this is..
I bought this guy when I first got my FS100, and I was skeptical about buying it, but figured for $600 or whatever it was that it had to at least be decent. I bought it for really no other reason than for when I shoot skiing or other action sports. Let me say right here that this is not a lens that I (or anyone) would/should use in a studio or on a set. I finally got a chance to shoot something besides commercial work and brought it up to Mt Hood... Show More

Great IQ but slow on the draw!
In general this is a great lens. IQ is amazing and build quality is second to none. But it can be slow to focus (as others have mentioned). Don't expect to catch split second shots as by the time the lens has focussed the moment will have gone. In addition it insists on refocussing from scratch each time you release and re-squeeze the shutter, slowing things down even further. That said, even when it's being slow the lens will focus in 1 - 1.5 se... Show More

Dwarfs the camera
I bought this to go with my Nex5... this is a very nice lens. The zoom range makes it very versatile... so far I've left the lens on as the main one to use for most shooting situations. I have removed it and put on the stock 18-55mm a few times only because it is a bit big if you don't need the zoom for anything. I am just a hobby photographer so I am tickled to have such a great camera outfit... it's a small system with big capabilities. So far ... Show More

Superb
The Sony SEL18200 lens was a bit hard to find until I checked B & H. Here it was in stock and a hundred dollars cheaper than what it sells for on other sites at present. I've had many expensive lenses over the years but this one, coupled with the Nex-5 technology, is the most versatile, functional, and precise I've owned. It's bulky, but not in comparison to some of the full-sized DSLR monsters. Also weighs over a pound but worth every ounce, bec... Show More

Good Value, Good Performer
Sony's DT 18-200mm lens for NEX surprised me in two ways. First, it was larger than I expected. It resembles a steel travel mug when collapsed. But it's actually quite light! Second, I was surprised at just how good of an optical performer it is. Good sharpness and contrast throughout its range. Corners can be a little soft at 18mm f/3.5, but stopping to f/5.6 usually firms them nicely. Chrommatic aberration is often present at the (wide) frame e... Show More

Big results requires the big lens!
People who have trouble with low light or focusing with this lens should use it with better camera. I bought my A6300 with the original 16-50mm small lens then upgraded to the SEL18200 to discover the camera could deliver so much more than I expected. When fitted on the A6300/A6500 cam, this lens has amazing autofocus and stabilisation performance because of the much greater number of AF points than on the NEX series of cams. Although quite... Sony e-mount 18-200. Fantastic Lens!
Purchased the Sony e-mount 18-200mm f3.5/6.3 lens for my NEX 5n. The 18-200mm focal length is ideal for almost all conditions and therefore this lens stays on my camera 95% of the time. You can travel with this lens and can do wide and zoom shooting without having to carry anything else except for maybe a fast prime. At f3.5/6.3 it is fast enough for most good/fair light situations and combined with the lens optical stabilization (OSS) my photos ... Show More

This lens is underrated by a lot of lens reviews
Im an advance amateur and have used many highly rated lenses. Coming from the Canon camp - I have owned most of the Canon L zoom lenses: 16-35L, 24-105L, 24-70L, 70-200Ls, and 100-400L plus primes: 35mm f1.4L, 100mm f2.8L, and 135mm f2L.Its almost 7 years that I own this lens since switching to the Sony mirrorless camp in 2011. Make this Alpha NEX standard equipment!
I use this lens mainly for long range landscapes, sports and portrature. The build quality is first rate; 15 elements in 13 groups with a magnesium alloy barrel. Some who have purchased this lens complain that it's too heavy. I disagree. The camera body is light enough that the lens steadies shots at the longer focal lengths (although the internal image stailization works VERY well). Also, I find that it works well as the balance point when mount... Show More

A must have for your Nex
I have had the SEL18200 for a about 3 months now. Currently, there are only two other (kit) lens available for the E mount; the very important but painfully soft 16mm, and the reasonable quality 1855. The SEL18200 is vastly superior to both and is a great investment. Size is not an issue. The only issue is the relatively slow focus, but it's absolutely tolerable. I love my NEX-5 and its much (much) more fun with the 18200. Now its next to impossi... Show More

Almost one lens fits all
This lens sits on my NEX7 and it is great for outdoors with lots of sun. Once you are inside, it takes a second or two to focus in low light. I love shooting macro and this lens some what gives me that option. I would love to get more macro images out of it but it has it's limitations. Also, when carrying lens down, it creeps out (zooms out). The ring moves tight when zooming in and out especially when doing video. Over all not a bad lens, I shot... Show More

This is a Fantastic lens
I have owned all of the NEX series cameras and I have never thought about getting this wonderful 18-200 until I got my NEX-7. Let me tell you how happy I am with this lens it great. It's very sharp throughout the zoom range and it's very bright for such a long zoom. I have been using this lens indoors at 200mm and the results are great. It is also completely silent so it works great for video as well. It focuses very fast and if you use this lens... Show More

Good but Could Be Better
I bought this to be my one go-to lens for my NEX-7. Yes, it's a little large and a little heavy, but the entire package is so much less to deal with than my Nikon that I don't find those issues. The picture quality is excellent, though there is serious vignetting at the lower zoom range, and even though the camera is fast I would have preferred a faster lens to better control depth of field. But overall the images are sharp and colors true. I fin... Show More

Sony's NEX 18-200mm lens, WOW
My first foray into a removable lens camera since my film days. I am a zoom shooter and this lens suits me down to the ground and covers a great zoom range. Now some things I like and some I don't. Like:- 1. Quality of the build is excellent, metal construction, smooth zoom and focus action. No lens creep. 2. Quality of the photos are excellent especially at full zoom of 200mm. 3. I love the bayonet fitting, so much easier than a screw fitting. D... Show More

Excellent All-Purpose Lens
I really wanted a lens in the 16-80mm or 18-100mm range but that lens is not currently available for the NEX system. I studied every review and comment available on the three 18-200mm lenses, and this lens received by far the best ratings. It is also the most expensive and the largest. I would have preferred the newer and smaller black LE version, but I wanted the best optical and mechanical quality possible for an all purpose lens of this type. ... Show More

The standard 18-55mm lens that comes with SONY NEX is not the best zoom for a camera like that, it makes you very frustrated at some point of use. So you end up having to get the 18-200mm. The first obstacle one has to get over is the size of the lens compared to the 18-55mm. My basis of comparison is my Nikon DSLR and the two lenses needed to equal this focal length range. Very Poor Lens
This lens has many major flaws. First, the exposure shift between wide and tight is extreme. It makes zooming just about impossible under any kind of low light. Second, the focus ring seems to barely communicate with the lens internals. You turn the ring and wait and see what happens. Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't. You try again. And again. Eventually you find a focus. By then your shot is gone. Third, Sony, what the F were you thinking? Why d... Show More
