Best lens I've ever shot with!

Dec 4, 2013

The superlatives are everywhere regarding this lens, and in my opinion -- it's warranted. I have never shot with any lens that is as sharp as this lens -- straight from its maximum aperture of f1.8 from the center to the far edges! This lens paired with the EM5 is defintively sharper than Canon's 135 F2 paired with the 5d Mark II. You can crop till your heart's content and it's still sharp. 100% crop is still very sharp. Ridiculous IQ. The color ... Show More

Great Lens

Nov 25, 2013

I use this lens on my GH3, GX1, and soon on my Olympus e-M1. For my purpose which is video for my church, it works very well. For video its used mostly on the GH3. I recently switched over to M4/3 and I love the small sizes of the lenses. The build quality is excellent, fills good in the hand and on the camera. Well balanced. I'm very satisfied with the image quality for stills and video.

Excellent prime lens

Nov 1, 2013

Compact, well constructed, all metal, virtually silent autofocus with incredible optics and bright f/1.8 aperture. After switching to m4/3 camera, I sold my SHG zoom lenses in favor of lighter, more compact lenses. Losing the convenience of a zoom doesn't compare to the optical excellence and brightness of a fixed focal length lens. One of Olympus Zuiko Digital best lenses.

The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f/1.

Oct 20, 2013

The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f/1.8 is a high-grade, all-metal, fast telephoto lens designed for use with Micro Four Thirds cameras. Boasting a similar angle of view as a 150mm lens in a 35mm systemThe Olympus M.Zuiko 75mm f/1.8 ED has a fairly unusual focal length equivalent to a 150mm lens on classic full format cameras. As such it is a moderately long tele lens suitable for applications such as portrait and still-life photography. At f/1... Show More

Great Lens

Oct 2, 2013

I have a bunch of micro-4/3 lenses and this is the best one that I have, so far. I would have purchased it long ago had Olympus brought out a black version at introduction. When I bought this lens it was difficult to source the matching lens hood (not included with the lens) - it wasn't in stock at B&H. Regardless, the images are crystal-clear, even wide-open. I have taken multi-shot (stitched mosaic) portraits with this lens , and dare I say it ... Show More

Could Make Lightroom unnecessary

Oct 1, 2013

After my first 5 portraits I could see that there was no reason to make alterations in Lightroom.. I liked them just the way they were. To me that is saying something. At first I thought 75MM would be a weird distance but it is not at all. Reminds me of Canon 70-200MM is USM II without the weight, but without the flexibility.

The Best M.Zuiko lens so far

Sep 2, 2013

I've been drooling about this lens since its release. I've been saving money. And Olympus read my mind and dropped the price (well, temporarily, but I jumped at the opportunity). The lens has a solid build (Made in Japan still means a lot!) and a very nice feeling handling it. I must say that recently I mostly have been using Voigtlander 25mm and been spoiled by it. MZuiko 75mm is close in quality but I would say a little bit subpar to Voigtlande... Show More

The sharpest lens I have owned.

Sep 1, 2013

This is a fantastic lens. I think it is the sharpest lens I have ever owned in over 50 years of photography. I use it on an OM-D E-M5 and I am able to crop to an amazing extent and still get sharp images. Color and contrast are excellent. For a 150mm equivalent f/1.8 lens it is compact and light. My lens has a little flaw I can see when I look through the objective lens (a point of light). I considered returning it, but as I tested it I could not... Show More

By far one of Olympus' best

Aug 30, 2013

Having owned a number of camera system's, including Leica, I must say, this lens is top notch in build quality and image performance. Focusing is spot on using the E-M5 (even at f/1.8). I use this primarily as a portrait lens.

Fantastic Lens if you appreciate primes

Aug 1, 2013

Before buying, I agonized a lot between the reported sharpness of this lens v the convenience of the Panasonic 35-100 so I took test shots with both lenses , along with my Olympus 40-150 using my Olympus OMD in low store lighting. When I loaded the shots on my computer, the difference was night and day. The 40-150 repeatedly missed focus in the dim light. The 35-100 was in focus, but the crispness, detail and color fell way short of what I got fr... Show More

Great Lense and made in Japan

Jul 9, 2013

I have the lense for a day using my GF3 and so far I love the lense. Compared to the 12mm 2.0 Olympus lense, I preferred this lense. I mentioned about made in Japan as I believe that the reason of the 12mm lense not as good as expected might be due to the made in Japan issue. I have panasonice 25mm 1.4, which is also made in Japan and the it is a great lense as well. But to me, this lense is the best compare to the 25mm 1.4.

Amazing Lens

Jul 8, 2013

What can I say about this lens that hasn't already been said? Optics are astonishing, easily up there with the Canon 135L. I can't find any flaws in the optics and performance. It's pretty big for a Micro 4/3 lens, which might still make the Olympus 45mm a better choice for some people. However compared to similar SLR lenses it's tiny. It's probably best used as a portrait lens, but I've been having a lot of fun using it as a street shooting lens. ... Show More

not useful for continuous autofocus

Jun 25, 2013

This is a follow up to an earlier review. On an Olympus OM-D, this lens cannot be used on continuous autofocus either for stills or video. It hunts constantly and cannot hold a subject in focus. It is okay at infinity or in spot autofocus for stills. I don't know if that is a problem with the lens or the camera.

Fantastic Lens

Jun 18, 2013

This lens is really a great lens. It also happens to be the focal length that I think in most easily so I can really get some great pictures with it. I find it really nice to use for portraits of children. I can get close without getting all in their faces and therefore I end up with much more natural looking portraits than I would with a shorter lens. It also does great with landscapes and travel photos. I use it to get a close up portrait-like ... Show More

sharp and fast

Jun 17, 2013

Good for shooting portraits at a distance including in low light. Very sharp at infinity. The biggest drawback I have noticed is that a 150mm full frame equivalent lens is awkward if you can't get some distance away. The shallow depth of field is a challenge to focus properly if you are close to your subject. Even the OM-D E-M5 hunts excessively and misses a sharp focus much of the time. The lens is professional grade but the M4/3 bodies are not yet ready to replace a DSLR for close highly detailed shots.

This lens has been universally praised, and rightfully so. It may be the sharpest lens on the planet, and the build quality is superb (not to mention the fact that it's absolutely gorgeous). While not as versatile as a zoom, it produces better image quality than any zoom, and you can use your feet and judicious cropping to increase its effective range.
