One of those magical lense

Mar 13, 2016

Sharp,. Fast and really fits with my shooting style. While I'm more of a zoom guy, I'll gladly make an exception for this lens. Really crisp rendering with a smooth bokeh in the background. Sadly, no hood included.

This is my first prime lens for my OMD EM10, I'm really impressed by the sharpness of the lens, decide to buy more prime lens soon. Way to go Olympus!

Great photos, tricky use

Feb 8, 2016

Very sharp pictures, very bright lens. It tends to hunt in autofocus with my OM D EM1. It sometimes focus in the wrong part of the subject. You need to focus very carefully. No lens hood for a $ lens? Shame on you Olympus.I will be returning the lens because I have other lenses that better suit my needs.

Love the build quality!!

Dec 30, 2015

First off I have read a lot about how people complained about the size of this lens compared to other m4/3rd lens. Yes it is larger than other prime lens in the olympus line up, but for it being 75mm (150mm full frame) it is tiny. It is close in size to any canon or nikon 50mm 1.8 lens. Which those are tiny for those companies line up. I think it is a perfect match for the em1 body. Love the metal construction. This lens is a beast when it comes to sharpness. It is true from what all of the other comments say around the internet that you probably have read. This is a must own lens.

Short intro, the review not about me ! It's about this wonderful lens ! If your a short/medium telephoto shooter, you must get this lens, my first impression are the built quality, the feel, and performance! Again wow, I own servals systems including Sony mirrorless full frame lenses and bodies, also I shoot sports as a profession full time along with freelancing jobs. another great prime from Olympus

Sep 21, 2015

If you want a solid prime lens for portraits and other uses, this 75mm works great. Sharp. I also use as prime Oly 12mm, 25mm and 45mm-- like them all-- but wanted the extra flexibility of 75mm (150mm equivalent to DSLR). It is heavier than others that I use, making the camera feel slightly unbalanced in front, until I got used to it. Like others, I find it annoying that the lens doesn't come with hood, have to purchase one separately.

My New Money Lens

Sep 14, 2015

Let me start out by saying that if you're considering buying this lens, and are in the market for a prime Micro Four-Thirds short telephoto lens, buy this 75mm f/1.8. That's the short version of the story: buy it in confidence knowing it's great. I had rented this lens a few times and absolutely loved it every time I used it, but lamented when I had to return it. After renting the lens at least half a dozen times I came to the realization I had p... Show More

Great lens!

Aug 25, 2015

This is an incredibly sharp, fast, well built lens that produces great color and contrast. The only down-side to this lens is that if you want a lens hood you have to purchase one separately. I also had to buy a separate hood for my 45mm. I don't understand Olympus' reasoning here--it shouldn't be so.

Amazing Lens

Jul 30, 2015

I pretty much get an anxiety attack when it's time to spend money, but I have been lusting after this lens for a year, ever since I got my OM-D E-M1. When it went on sale for $ off recently, I grabbed it. It has lived up to all the hype. It is clear edge to edge and the narrow depth of field has made this a really great portrait lens also (just make sure you have room to back up). And for night-time street photography, it is peerless with the F 1.8. I highly recommend this lens. And as a bonus, it is so short in length, that you would never suspect that it is a telephoto.

Sharp lens, nice bokah, and very high quality! My only complaint about this lens is the price and the fact that it doesn't come with a lens hood.

The best micro-four-thirds lens

Jul 19, 2015

In my opinion, this is the best micro-four-thirds lens. The image quality is very high and sharp and the AF is very fast and silent, mechanically - a very high standard with a metal body.

Tack Sharp Powerhouse!

May 26, 2015

I've only had this lens a few days, but will probably leave this lens on my camera most of the time. It's a little heavier than most M4/3 Olympus prime lenses, but worth the weight for the end result. As others have said, it is very sharp and at 150mm equivalent, allows you to be at a comfortable distance from people, yet fill the frame. I set my camera up for S-AF+MF assist, so all I have to do is touch the focusing ring for it to magnify my sub... Show More

The lens that wants to be used

Apr 22, 2015

I have been enjoying the use of zoom lenses on my Olympus OM-D EM-1, but now I have discovered the clean beauty of the prime lens. I have added the 75mm f1.8 to collection of the 17mm f1.8 and 45mm f1.8.lenses. There are gaps in this group that will be filled some day. I was uncertain as to how often I would reach for the longer focal length lens. My photography is mostly of travel, landscapes, and gardens. When this lens arrived I headed out in... Show More

Outstanding lens

Apr 13, 2015

Almost everybody rates this 5 stars - me too. I won't repeat the good stuff, which appears everywhere. The only wish I have is that the focusing ring would be clutch-type like the Pro 12-40 and 40-150 to shift into MF. Not a biggie since I adopted a front button on the OMD-EM1.

High Performance

Apr 12, 2015

This is a special lens. I purchased it for the 150mm equivalent reach, and was influenced by the high marks published on a number of photo testing web-sites. I didn't want a larger lens because I want my u43 system to be small and light. Wow, was I surprised after using this lens a couple times. The lens is optically very efficient and incredibly sharp. The build is solid and it feels very sturdy. This lens is fantastic and will become a classic.

One of the sharpest lenses I have!

Mar 12, 2015

I give this lens a 4.5 star rating!!!I purchased this lens to do Portraits with. I needed the very shallow depth of field that it provides! Shooting this lens at nearly wide open, I get very shallow DOF... and tack sharp images!!I have shot with fast Nikon glass for many years and wanted the same look that I was used too. Being on a M4/3 Olympus OM-D E-M1 body, you must mentally adjust your aperture by almost 2 stops of light to get the same DOF ... Show More

When reading the reviews for this lens, people were commenting on how sharp and crisp the images were defined. This is true. I would imagine that this and the 12-40mm 2.8 and the 40-150mm 2.8 are the crowns in the Olympus line of lenses. This lens is sharper and has better characteristics than my Canon L-series lenses. The best Micro-Four Thirds Lens I Own

Dec 18, 2014

The title of this review says it all. This lens is outstanding... It's tack sharp. The color rendering is spectacular. It's M43 so of course the focusing is super fast. Bokeh is rich and creamy. Build is VERY solid (metal construction). The 75mm (150 equiv) focal range will take some getting use to as you'll need to back up a bit for portraits but it's definitely worth it. I thought the price was a little steep, until I started using the lens... ;) Well done Olympus.

One seriously good lens

Dec 15, 2014

You can think of fast primes as two-trick ponies. They can shoot in darker situations if you need to and they can deliver some sort of bokeh if you want it. On the E-M5, this lens does both very, very well. It's neither particularly little nor particularly light. Mounting it to the E-M5 makes a solid feeling but well balanced unit (in m4/3 terms) that reminds me of the OMs I loved to shoot. Color me pleased.
