Over the years I've tried a number of different headphones for monitoring sound on a Mackie 32 channel board and during audio work in the field, and on both the computer and in the studio. Not one of the others could compare to my trusty pair of 7506's from Sony. Bright sound with a decent amount of bass response, they are lightweight without being flimsy, and are comfortable to wear for hours at a time. They are built well, and hold up well to field work too. The added bonus of a storage bag helps you keep it in fine shape as you move from place to place in the field. I like them so well I recently bought two more pair, one for the office to be used in video production, and another as a gift for a budding audio editor. I'll bet it will be a long time before he tells me he replaced his 7506's! ... More

I use these phones mainly with my audio workstation for vinyl restoration. I was using some ultra-cheapie 'phones that had horrible resonances and creaked. When they finally disintegrated, I started asking around about some decent inexpensive headphones. All the people I asked recommended the Sony MDR-7506 in their lists of headphones to try. Given that all the people I asked are audio professionals, and a couple of them are experienced musicians that do studio work... sold! I have started doing home studio work, laying down bass tracks for a composer friend of mine. I was using some wireless 'phones for monitoring, which was really handy when doing takes, but they were absolutely useless for mixing because of their sound enhancing equalization. The MDR-7506 are a lot more honest. ... More

I bought these cans along with ATH M50 following reviews of both. The MDR 7506 are a good set of cans, but could have been better.1. The overall frequency response is good, but not as good the ATH M50. The MDR 7506 generate a good punch for bass and treble, but don't live up to the level of ATH M50 or the Grado SR60 on the overall frequency response2. Build: These are comfortable cans, but the build quality is rather substandard. The headband could have used some extra padding. The tensile strength of the headband is good enough to keep your ears comfortable, but you just can't help worrying if it would snap! The earpads could be a lot better. The leather/leatherette used is too flimsy and as other reviews would tell you, can wear out pretty quickly.Exposed wires on both the headphones might be a problem, although it's very unlikely that they would snap when you resize or pull the headphone. These cans are good, the audio quality is true and very live. They lack in overall frequency response and build quality. When you're paying$ for these, it's imperative that Sony invests it on making more durable products. ... More

These headphones are incredibly crisp, clear and they don't miss a beat. I'm not a producer, mc, or recording artist ( well I record to my IPhone). My Headphones are used for jamming in the man cave when it gets late so I don't wake the neighbors. I used to not like wearing headphones because it just wasn't the same tone coming from the amp, but these headsets capture every nuance that I play. They are very comfortable, fit snug, and you don't hear any outside noise when listening or playing. I upgraded for Stag Headphones, these Sony Headphones blow every thing away. It has a curled type phone cord which ads to the quality and maneuver ability. That's all. They are worth every penny spent ... More

I worked for many years at a post-production house where these headphones were provided as part of my edit bay. The office could be loud at times, but these blocked out most of the noise and gave a rich, immersive audio experience. I wore them between 7-10 hours per day, and only had to replace the ear pads once after about 3 years. When starting my own company, there was no question in my mind; these were the headphones that I needed in my arsenal. Whether using them out in the field or in my home office, this model has proven time and time again to be a fantastic value, and a must-have for any editor. ... More

I use these for podcasting and the sound is amazing and the headphones are comfortable. What also makes these headphones unique is the curled cord which I love. Some people might not like it but I do. It also comes with a little bag to store them in which is really nice. So even though they may be more expensive than some headphones you're getting the bag too. I would highly recommend these. Also, B and H is comparable* so buy them here. I have a different set for the guest and host (I do the mixing) but if money were no object then these headphones would be the only ones I own. Sony makes great headphones. ... More

I've owned a previous pair of these studio earphones for over 10 years and they provided awesome service in every way possible. I am a musician by choice and hobby, and I'm now retired. However I had to retire my original MDR-7506 earphones and couldn't wait to purchase new ones to continue the awesome audio reproduction that I love. I suggest listening to any earphone within the $100 range and compare them to these earphones. The specs succinctly tell the story of what you're getting and it's an awesome value!

I had an older set from way way back in the day. It was an easy choice to go back to the Sony's. The price was reasonable. These have large 40mm drivers. The ear pieces also swivel slightly, just enough to make it easy to take on and off, not get int he way. These give you full coverage around the ears. The coiled cord is long and loose. These are not tight coils. The jacket of the cord is not stiff. The cord is only on one side. It comes with a bag and a 1/8-1/4 adapter. There is great sonic clarity and volume. They are not heavy on the head. They hold tight even if you have them on one ear. Plenty of padding on the ear piece. I don't care who you go with, the headband and ear piece suck in the heat! Goes with the territory. That being said, these feel great! ... More

I use this headphone on a daily basis. I listen to a lot of dance/trance and it produces a great sound. I actually prefer to listen to the music using the headphones, then the home stereo. I recently flew for a good 20 hours this past week. I used the MDR-7506's for all the flights. The sound canceling factor was pretty decent for a pair of cans which aren't noise canceling. However, you do have to turn the volume up a bit higher in order to compensate. The only issue I have with this pair of headphones lies with the coiled cord. I find it gets into your way especially on the airplane. Overall, I have already recommended these headphones to my friends and family! ... More

The headphones are used for monitoring location sound recording, and mixing audio for video. Headphones are well built, the cups rotate and are comfortable to wear, and keep out most of the background noise. It would be nice if one of the cups would flip completely up and out of the way, leaving one ear uncovered. It sort of does this, but not in way that is comfortable long term. The coiled cable will stretch out enough to allow movement around the gear, and short enough (when coiled) to not get caught underfoot or on the tripod. Audio quality is excellent, with more bass than one might be accustomed to when coming from an open-back headphone. I very much like that the cups fold up inside the headband, making the headphones into a small, compact package for storage/packing away. ... More

I bought this after using the one my brother had. These headphones are known to be the standard in music production. Tons of music engineers, musicians and producers use these pro headphones and they are amazing just for listening too! I was watching a video the other day and I saw Mike Shinoda (lead rapper of Linkin Park) wearing this exact model while in their studio. This is an unbeatable headphone for the prince. For only $you can get what the pros use, don't go out for noise canceling headphones or those $300 expensive headphones, these will do the job for a fraction of the price. I have been using this exact model of headsets for years at work and finally decided to purchase a pair for my new home video editing system with good reason(s). First, when listening to lots of video during pre- and post-production phases, it is important to not experience Audio Fatigue from high volume monitoring. The Sony MDR-7506 are both Linear in Response and have great enough sensitivity to be able to hear all sound at lower levels. They are also very comfortable for wearing over long periods and conform well around the ears without the feeling of pressure. In my forty-plus years in the business, I've used many models and brands, but have always preferred these Sony Headsets above all others. ... More

I'm a voiceover artist and for years have used these headphones in every major recording studio I've worked in. They are super comfortable. There is no noise leakage, so when you are doing a voiceover via phone patch, or ISDN, your mic won't pic up the director's voice. The sound is very clean and not colored. Nice high end, and the bottom end is tight. You don't need to crank the volume up with these up, either. Highly recommended for voiceover professionals and others who desire pristine quality sound, in a very well made package. Ive also used these to watch a movie on my laptop-there's a mini plug included, just unscrew the phono plug. Very nice headphones.... ... More

This Sony offering is lightweight, comfortable, covers 'my' ears and the integrated cable has a respectable reach. However, I'm not too crazy about coil cords as they invariably get tangled, and I would prefer the headband to be just a tad more cushioned for my bald head. Likewise, the isolation from background noise isn't that great for my taste. Frankly, I can't think of a more subjective and totally individualized component than a set of headphones. You can read specifications until you're blue in the face but until you try them on your head, and with your ears, you'll just have to deal with potential returns. Overall, these are more than adequate although I'll likely bump it up a notch. ... More

Speaking of sound quality, they perform quite well: precise, crisp and honest. They're also very comfortable and tightly adjust on the head. They're flexible yet feel durable.Furthermore they're compact: you can fold them inside and twist or adjust them. The long coiled cord may be a plus for some giving them more freedom and a downside for others who'd want mobility. To the minus points now, I would note two: -They collect dust easily or it may be just me! -The travel pouch is okay but could be better. ... I've had em for a few years and I haven't had a problem with em. They are very high quality, and the generate great sound. I had one pair before that broke because one of my siblings had a temper tantrum, but I hadn't had any problems until then. Despite using them for listening to metal and playing games, which can be very taxing on a pair of headphones, they haven't had any reduced sound quality or volume that I could notice. My only complaint is that the small wires on each side that provide power/ audio to the actual ear cup have a layer of insulation around them that separates from the headphones almost immediately. But, like I said, no problems with receiving audio or quality, so I can't complain too much. ... More

I work as an editor in TV and use these headphones only at work. I think the audio quality is quite clean and crisp. My ears don't get too hot or smooshed when wearing them for long periods of time. The top of my head can get tired, but it isn't bad. The main reason I'm knocking off 1 star is since I wear glasses, these headphones do press the legs into my head. Usually when it gets uncomfortable I'll just take my glasses off.Overall with quality of sound, price, and comfort I'm very happy with my choice.

So, when I purchased these headphones for my studio, I had reservations regarding whether they would measure up. Those reservations are gone. These headphones meet my every requirement for studio recording sound reproduction quality, as well as design, comfort, and manufacturing quality. Unusual these days to find a product that performs better than most other units at a fraction of the price. Realistic sound, good durability, also works well in amateur radio broadcast monitoring both receiving weak signals and for final output adjustment when transmitting ESSB. For those not involved in ham radio, ESSB is a extended frequency response using the single sideband mode where audio quality transmitted approaches broadcast quality. Very nice for monitoring any type of audio, smooth base response, balanced highs, exceptional sound field. All opinions are subjective when it comes to audio, but these perform very well for the price point, if you know what to listen for, you'll be impressed! ... More

A few years back I was visiting my dad, a retired sound engineer, and he gave me his old MDR-V6 cans. They're brighter than my other headphones, very helpful for finding problems in the high-end of a mix... things that are easily missed on my monitors or in my other 'phones... but they still have a pretty tight low end. They are old now and occasionally there's a little drop out in one channel as the wires wear out (I suppose) but a recent review of the MDR-7506 convinced me to get them instead of another (more expensive) set of headphones I was looking at picking up. The MDR-7506 are very similar to my old MDR-V6 cans and I'm very happy I got them. ... More
