I'm just a guy trying to put together a live stream for church everyday with people talking, singing and a concert piano 20 feet from me while I'm trying to make sure I have the best sound possible. These headphones have a nice tight fit that are very comfortable for the hour or so I have them on. I only occasionally find myself cupping my ears to make sure I'm capturing the right sound because they do a very good job of keeping the sound in and the noise out. And the sound seems to be exactly the sound that is leaving the building to the output. They are well worth the money for me. ... More

Accurate reproduction of signals from headphones for applications requiring sound with limited tolerance for distortion. Long coiled cord is a plus. Fit is relatively tight but helps to buffer external sounds. I was able to wear them for 5 hours a day (one hour intervals) for a week without ever feeling uncomfortable. Still, they feel tight initially. No instructions were provided for the leather earpads and it is unclear how to put them on. I need to get some assistance for this issue. (It's more complicated than would appear.) Headphone case is larger than required. Its size makes it cumbersome for travel/storage. It came with the purchase, but I would have preferred to pay more and get a custom fitted case instead. ... More

I got these on sale for $ and the sound is superior to all other brands in this price range. It makes brands like SkullCandy, SONY, and TDK sound weak and inadequate. The noise cancellation is very good. I used it on a plane while sitting right next to the engine and was able to enjoy my music and movies without an issue. I couldn't even hear people trying to get my attention. Also, each piece on these headphones is replaceable. If you don't like the twisted cord, you can follow the manual's instructions and change it. They also fold up in 3 different ways, which is nice, depending on where you want to store them. You really can't beat these for the price. Sennheiser is in a league of its own, IMHO. ... More

Their greatest feature is that they seal well, so they're good for keeping the playback track from bleeding into the mic when tracking in the studio, or for sealing off the house sound when soloing channels while mixing live sound. The fact that they fold up compactly and are pretty durable are also pluses...oh...and they're at a GREAT price point. One possible con is that they fit so tight that they're a bit uncomfortable to wear for long periods...but I have open back cans for that...so I don't really care.

I am a video editor and needed a good set of headphones as my old ones died. I had purchased a cheap set of Skull Candy headphones (I know I know--I was a broke college student so give me a break). The 280s were recommended to me by a friend who is a professional videographer. I must admit these are wonderful. I had hoped for something that was noise-canceling as the Skull Candies were like having two Solo cups on my ears with a string between them. I would like for their noise-canceling ability to be a little higher on the scale, but the 280s are much better than what I had. For the money, they are great. ... More

1. The headphones sounds smooth and clear 2. Very good noise suppression: I'm working at noisy environment and the headphones make a huge difference between with and without them. I compared them with non-professional Sony headphones with active noise cancellation ... the Sennheiser HD280 have had better noise suppression 3. The headphones are big, but no too much. Anyway, size and weight is not issue for me. As well, them may be folded, that saves half of space. 4. My single complain is for plastic coverage of headphones: it looks very thin and feels very gentle. Until now it's OK but I expected something more durable ... More

During the day, I work in a cubical surrounded by other cubicals. With these headphones on, the only way I know my phone is ringing is because it has a red flashing light. Needless to say, these are GREAT at blocking out ambient noise. The sound reproduction is accurate and the sound stage is good - especially considering the price. The bass does not hit as hard as some of the semi-closed headphones, but it is responsive. These headphones are durable and comfortable. I can wear them for hours when I'm editing video. All in all, if you are on a budget but want great sounding headphones, I would recommend these. ... More

I use these headphones for PC use like listening to my music collection which contains all sorts of genres from classical, to rap and playing games. The response is very linear, which I like. Great for classical music where you want the most faithful reproduction. Low and high's are great, but ultimately, these are closed headphones which all suffer from mids being slightly reverberated. Comfort is also very good. After I broke the cushion in, I'd wear these anywhere from 1 hour all the way to monster 6-hour sessions and I'd never feel them on my head - even while wearing glasses. Between performance, comfort, and ease of use, these headphones are hard to beat at its price. ... More

The sound from these headphones is wonderful. They are very powerful. It takes a little while to get used to the weight of the headphones, but once you're used to it it's not a problem. They can also fold up several different ways for storage in a gear bag. These headphones also come with a very sturdy, secure 1/8 to 1/4 adapter that is custom made to screw onto the cord. I'm a photojournalism student and bought these to use when field recording for my intro to multimedia class. My decision was between these and the Sony MDR-7506 headphones. I decided on these because of the higher frequency range and because a $25 B&H gift card was included. ... More

It may seem like a small thing, but there can be little audio delays all through a video recording system. One of the largest - and most common - is the delay in encoding and decoding FireWire transfers. When shooting a live event, using a switcher and FireWiring the signal to a deck, this delay is profound. I used to use semi-open headsets that would allow room sound to leak into my ears, and it was incredibly annoying. The Sennheiser HD280 Pro headsets exclude room noise better than any other cans I have ever used, and as a bonus, they sound great too! And they are built tough - I can see these headphones lasting on the road for a long time. ... More

My application calls for use as monitor phones while playing an acoustic instrument in a studio setting, as well as monitors while editing music on a DAW. In each case I needed comfortable headphones that had a flat response, and that provided a great degree of sound isolation. Thinking I'd have to compromise good audio performance in return for the sound isolation and price-point I had in mind, I was pleasantly surprised to hear these Sennheisers. They're very ruggedly made as well, and have the convenient single cord configuration I like.

After only 2 months of light use in a home recording studio, the right ear has gone completely out. For a brand of headphones that is held to such high industry standards, it's pretty disappointing. I can probably get it fixed under warranty, but there's no reason they should be failing after such a short period of time. Until now, I've been very happy with them.

I bought these for use in my studio. They are smaller than I had expected but they are comfortable and have very good bass response. for the price I would have given it 5 stars but I prefer a detachable cable and this is why I gave it 4 stars but for now that is the only real complaint I have with them.

Sound is superb, very clear, im hearing things i have not heard before in my music and games. Now for those gamers that have to have a good headset and mic, you can buy parts, yes parts for the headset including a mic attachment. Dont think im allowed to say on here where you might get one but its pretty easy to find. I dont like the cord being on the left hand side but after 30 min I got use to it. Amazing quality sound and construction at a fraction of the cost of the nearest competing product. The design is so perfect, it has remained unchanged for nearly 20 years. My first pair finally broke out after about 11 years and a lot of very hard use. The old speakers still worked, but they had been dropped so many times, it was too much for the housing. Not even tape could hold them together. If you drop then from chest height onto a solid floor or table, that will most likely crack the shell or puncture the ear cover. But they will work just fine. Just treat them well, they should last a lifetime. ... More

As always, B&H service was five-star excellent. I bought the HD 280s to replace my second pair of Vic Firth SIH2s, which lost one side after a couple of years of use (just like the first pair), and the required repair didn't seem cost-effective. Because I use these while practicing drums, I was intrigued by the 280s' claims of ambient noise reduction up to 32db. I have no way to measure how much they actually cut, but it's noticeably less than the Firths, which are rated at -25db. Consequently, I have to turn up the music, which means more potential hearing damage. The 280s' sound quality is a bit better, and they're more comfortable than the Firths, but if your priority is passive noise reduction, I'd recommend sticking with the Vic Firth model. ... More
