If you are looking for a small powerful mic this is it..... By far I am blown away by the overall build quality and the rycote shock mount is solid. My only suggestion would be to make the shoe mount out of metal for future mount. I own several small mics for my DSLRs and my BLACKMAGIC cameras the Rode Video Micro is the only mic I am confident I will get clean audio from. Buy this Mic you WILL NOT be disappointed......

Took it out as soon as it was delivered to shoot an interview in a agricultural setting. We had pretty strong wind gusts all day but when I put everything into resolve there was only one brief spot of wind noise, excellent audio for interview and awesome insect noises for the background. This thing balances perfectly on a mirror less camera (Fuji x series currently) and takes up so little space in my camera bag I have no excuse for having crystal clear audio, and it's made in Australia, so much love for our cousins down under. Side note if you ever need to contact rode customer service they get back to you ASAP. ... More

I've heard great things about Rode products, and so I figured I'd pick up this mic. The quality of the sound right out of the mic is alright (definitely useable), however, with some basic audio editing, the microphone really excels. Think of it as shooting log on a camera. Without editing, it doesn't look great, but with a little work in post, it really shines. The included shock mount and dead-cat work extremely well, and the build quality is phenomenal. All in all, this is a great microphone for anyone starting out, or pros who are just looking for a backup, especially considering the cost! ... More

Using with my iPhone on a beastgrip and the results are fantastic. Crisp audio and perfect levels in the basic Camera App. Definitely draws a lot of attention with the windscreen on it. Using mostly for casual interviews on the street.

This little mic is great. I needed a shotgun mic in a pinch, and I had used the rhode pro many times before but didn't wanna drop $200 because it was mostly to be used as a reference mic and low and behold the sound is great! I even did a little research and found that because this mic is all metal it handles radio interference (such as cell phone signals) even better than the much more expensive pro rhode. Also the actual clip that holds the mic is FAR superior to the rhode pro, and it's compact and durable. I will give it 4 stars only because it doesn't have a level setting. I have been using it on a Sony A7sii and it communicates brilliantly. ... More

When I used this mic on the LUMIX GH4 at short range (about 8 feet) in a room that was not echo-y, with the gain level set appropriately (set about level 3 in a 1-6 option) the audio in this interview was surprisingly good. When I used this same mic in a large echo-y concrete room with gain set higher it picked up a lot of ambient noise, maybe even some from the camera--not so good. My conclusion is that it is quick and convenient to use in the right setting /event. There is definitely a place for this in my gear. I'm glad I bought it! ... More

Overall for what your spending it's a good value for your money. It's important to look at your camera however. When compared to say the 5d mark IV it's a very noticeable improvement however...if your using the R, R5, or R6, it's honestly pretty darn close to what you already have in your camera. I'd definitely buy the powered full size version of this mic if your using an R camera which should run you about $200. If you have one of the older DSLRs and just want a cheap investment, go for it go for this one!

I have only used this microphone for two weeks but, in that time, I have put it on a boom, hidden it on a table and stuck it on my camera so I can do some run and gun work. Although, I use a separate recorder, I have plunged it in directly though camera and it does not sound half bad. I would suggest always using this mic with a portable recorder. Oh, and I love how compact it is. The dead cat as it is called, is really quite useful in rooms that boom or a windy day..

I have young children and use my Nikon D750 DSLR camera for still photos and video of them. The mic on the D750 is very week when it comes to outdoor shooting. I like the VideoMicro because it is compact and it slips right into the hotshot on my DSLR. I all I had to do is plug it in to the camera. This was perfect to fill the needs of filming kids soccer games and trips to the beach. For the price and the improvements it made in my family video sound quality it works perfectly.

Finally got around to testing this Mic. After adjustments to Mic sensitivity on my D7100, this worked great. I was narrating a panaromic video so I had the Mic facing backwards. Not extremely high winds, maybe 5mph. I have not used it indoors without the muffler but I expect it will perform as it did outdoors. The muffler is a bit of a challenge but still worth it.

This is simply the best on-camera shotgun for DSLR/Mirrorless cameras. The bigger ones don't sound much better, so unless you want the expensive features this is the way to go. I actually sold my bigger ones to use this model exclusively.

Connecting cord is spotty right out of the box. . . unless Im using headphones to monitor I have no way of telling if Im using the Rode or the internal mic on my DSLR. When its connected, it does work. The ambient noise was significantly reduced. Not sure how well the wind cutter works as Ive only used this in my living room with various appliances running elsewhere in the house. This also works on my iPhone 8; Couldnt tell the difference between this and the internal mic, but again, maybe its the cord? Since I cant monitor the iPhone like a DSLR, I have no way of knowing. Get me a consistent cord/connection and Ill be happy to revise this review. ... More

For the price point, the RODE VideoMicro is a solid on-camera mic for capturing clear, quality audio whether for a scratch track or use in your video. It also is of the highest quality in construction - solidly built. But, what makes this such a solid piece of gear is that it has such sound quality that it can double as a small boom mic when paired with RODE's extension cable... so, you Beginner Filmmakers... save yourself some money and invest in this versatile microphone! HIGHLY Recommend!!!

I was pleasantly surprised how well this works. Yea, it's not the high-end of some other unites, but wow, for the cost and the resulting audio captured... this works REALLY well for us when mounted on our smartphone gimbal or stabilizer. It's only been used a couple of times to date, but what we captured with this is really rather amazing. Audio levels were a bit low, but a quick adjustment in Premier... and we end up with clips captured on our smartphone that are far better than just using the on-phone mic. Well worth it.

Everything that has been said about this little microphone is true. It's a little pocketable workhorse if you are out running and gunning with a camera the likes of the Canon 70D. I've been using it since it arrived and it continues to wow me with its ease of use and the fact you don't need to be feeding it batteries. I highly recommend this little guy. Are there better mics out there. Yes. For this kind of value? Hard to beat.

I use this to record audio to be used as a temp voice over in my edit suite. Have a line in through a Mackie Onyx Artist 1-2 and can record directly onto an Adobe Premiere Timeline, with the help of a separately purchased XLR cable. Wanted this mic in case I want to use it on a DSLR for hobby video use as well. Works great for what I do and has some added flexibility to get more use out of it. Would purchase again.

Before this I had to set up a bunch of equipment to get the sound that I wanted but with this and the g6 its good enough for 80% of my audio for my videos if my final product was to make DVD's or for TV I definitely would use the zoom H6 and a different microphone but this guy really proves to be exactly what I needed in most cases. ... Several on the net said it gathers sound as well of better than Videomic Pro. Not so. Biggest features to love are no need for phantom power, and build. I have forgotten to turn on power to my Videomic Pro and thought with this I'll never miss audio again. Sticking with Videomic Pro for sound quality and additional settings. Micro goes to son-in-law for his birthday.

I also use the Rode Video Mic and a Sony shotgun mic for video, and the VideoMicro is by far my favorite so far. I plan to travel a lot this year and this will be a great addition to my video kit. It is small, does not require a battery, and picks up great audio. I have not tested it off camera on a boom pole yet, but I look forward to the results!

I use this on my Sony a7s when I just need scratch audio. It is so compact and light and has great audio quality. The sound quality is way better than the internal camera mic. I would even consider using this as an overhead boom in a pinch. I also bought a 25ft extension cable just in case that need came up.
