Just what I needed. Connected to a Nikon D7000 and instantly out-performed the on-board mic. Pretty directional (especially for the price), and it's nice to have it powered by 9V since the D7000 can't output phantom power. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the pad switch is really difficult to adjust. It's recessed inside of the battery compartment and you really have to dig into there to make an adjustment. It's a little thing, but other than that I love it!

This is an excellent solution to on-camera microphones. No more juggling with phantom-power packs or adapters for the cables. I shoot with a DSLR (Canon 550d), and use this microphone to provide to audio of the set which is then synced up with the H4N in post. The on-camera mic pics up ever focus pull, lens zoom and tripod bump. This mic, however, gives you just the clean audio in front of the camera. Still haven't attached it to a boom pole yet, and I'm not sure whether the audio is balanced OUT or not. But local to the camera, it's working fantastic. ... More

My brother talked me into this Mic. His is 4 years older and he really like it. After receiving the Mic. I fould that the base is made of plastic and doesn't feel strong. I told this to my brother and he stated his had a strong base. It's something you don't want kids handling. But over all the Mic. works well with my Panasonic X900 CC. I am an average user and this is my first shot gun mic. Is it worth the $? If the base was made of metal YES. Being it's made of plastic, NO... Maybe in the $100 range. ... More

Just received it,tried it with my d750,knowing the onboard mic is to sensitive to any noise.Tried it outdoors with a short video.Sound quality wasn't to bad. Decided to change the Pad,which is located inside the battery compartment, poor, poor design. The plastic that covers the area was put on wrong,to low.You can hardly see the switches.Besides that you can't operate them.I tried with the tip of a jewlers screwdriver and couldn't.I was afaried I would break the switches.I spent 44 years working on electonic equipment of all types and this is the poorest design that I can remember.

The RODE Videomic is a great microphone for No-Budget Filmmaking and people who want an upgrade from their in camera mic. It recordes great sound, but their is one problem. The AGC. (automatic gain control) If your camera has AGC then you will get large amount of noise. It is also a little klunky, but if you like having some weight to your camera, it's good for you. This is a great mic and I use it all the time.

Used it for Wedding coverage on my Canon 7D. Sound is crisp and shotgun capability works well. XLR input was unnecessary as the sound coming through is much more that I needed for the project.

As my daughter continues to build her musical skills, I found the built-in mics on my DSLRs were not up to the standard of sound quality required. Built-in mics also pick up camera noise and spectator noise (when filming recitals). The Rode VideoMic steps up sound recording significantly. It records sound coming from the direction that it's pointed, restricting unwanted noise. It is light and very easy to attach to the hotshoe. There are few other accessories for a DSLR that give you such a significant boost in performance for under $.

I just bought this shotgun mic to use with my Canon 5D Mark II. I am a still photographer dabbling with video. After testing it out and being impressed with the quality, I used it during the reception of a wedding to shoot some footage of people congratulating the couple. There was a live band, so the music was very loud. I was amazed at how well the mic was able to isolate the interview subjects from the ambient noise. The sound is completely clear, with zero blow out or anything close. I am so glad I got it!

I am using this microphone with an iPad Air @. The microphone is attached via the iOgrapher for iPad. You need to have a trs female to try male adaptor to plug the microphone into you iPad mini plug input. This microphone works very well and creates a wonderful full sound for videos created with the iPad. I also have the Rode NTG 2 Shotgun microphone. This VideoMic compares very favorably with the more expensive NTG2.

Very nice, simple shotgun mic kit. Comes with everything to get started making better quality videos with cleaner sound. Only downside would be that it take a 9Volt battery to power and the db control is in the battery compartment (which means you need to turn off the mic, pull off the tight battery door, pull out the battery and find a very small pen or paper clip to change). However, once it is set you are good to go.

I have been using this mic as a reference sound mic for film shoots. It works perfectly for what I use it for. I capture great reference sound which I then use to sync up my picture with the professional sound I recorded with my Sound Devices recorder and Sennheiser 416 mic. Even on its own it provides excellent sound for documentary or interview style recording. If you own a 5d Mark II or a Canon 7d this is a must purchase for recording great audio.

Great audio quality microphone and the included shock mount is great. I'm a bit disappointed in the build quality of the actual mic as it's made completely out of plastic. I've owned the azden dslr mount shotgun mic and was more impressed with the build quality with that over the rode but the Rode's audio quality is much better. That being the more important factor, I'm curious to see how long the Rode will actually hold up. Overall good mic.

I use this with my T2i and it works great! I have gotten a little bit of use out of it and I've used it on music video shoots, interviews, promo videos, and more. It definitely picks up more ambient noise than I'd like but that's a little expected in some cases. Mounts great to the hot shoe, batteries hold charge for a while, great shock absorption, and good audio. The + - DB is incredibly hard to get to unless you have long nails or a small pointy object. Overall, a great product. Well worth my $$.

I use this microphone mounted on a Canon HF G30 as a external microphone at racing events. It handles the screaming 700hp engines at close range with ease and doesn't distort. Its a little long for the camera and tends to occasionally get down in the lens view without an adapter. but for the difference in price compare to the videomic pro this was a no brainer. Functionality its not any different than the videomic pro and according to the customer servie from Rode your ears will not be able to tell the difference unless you use major studio sound equipment, but for loud engines its perfect. ... Shooting my first short I immediately realized how awful my on-camera mic is. I picked this bundle because of Rode's reputation and the great price. It worked like a charm! The audio captured is leagues better and that without me having much experience in audio capture. I expect it to get better with each bit I learn. I would recommend this mic and bundle to any student or someone new to video production as the learning curve is low, the price is great and the results are outstanding.

This mic is nice. Tested it with a Canon 60D camera and liked the sound, compared the actual camera microphone with this one plugged in and you really notice the difference. The only thing is that you'll need a 9V battery which is not as commercial as AA or AAA, and, of course, not included. Other than this I really like it!

This is my first microphone purchase. I bought it as an upgrade from the audio recorded directly by the Canon 7D (which has that infamous clicking sound). I just used the mic for my first video project, and I'm very please. The sound is much cleaner. I'm not an audio expert, but this feels like a good investment for someone like me, who doesn't want to spend too much on a mic but still is looking for a more professional sound. Very happy so far.

Order arrived quickly and as ordered. I am using this mic as an attachment to a 7D SLR for recording HD video footage. Good points: - It works! - Cheap - Clear sound when close to subject Bad points: - It is a little flimsy - It still picks up a lot of background noise, but this may be able to be improved in post. I am not sure if it is due to mic or camera though... - May cast shadow in certain shots due to length.
