Though my mic was backordered and took a while to get to me, I think it was worth the wait. The mic produces high quality, crisp sound. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to make high quality videos. And if you get it in the awesome bundle like I did with the boom you can record excellent audio and clean voices on location (no after dubbing necessary!).

Connects to flash shoe and jack, so you can use it on the DSLR itself, plus it's on rubber mounts, so all the operation noises are muffled. It has much superior sound to built-in mics, plus you can change it's sensitivity, if your DSLR doesn't have manual controls of input level (like Canon 60D). It's not the smallest mic, but if you are at least semi-serious about DSLR video, you should consider it.

I have recently been attempting to add some professionalism to my video work and this mic has made it extremely easy to record audio directly to my camera (dslr) easily and at great quality. Out of the box it required a 9 volt battery which is nice when you consider it isn't draining your camera battery. The only thing I would change would be to add a longer 3.5mm audio cable in the box, but you can get those relatively inexpensively.

I have used this in not only a few of my personal short films I've made in the past year, but I've also used this for business and wedding occasions I was asked to film. It's a great tool for making your production sound that much better without spending loads of money on xlr converters, etc. Especially if you shoot dslr. The only issue I have with this mic, is in the mount itself, it will only fit into a hotshoe, and not onto 1/4 threads on a small tripod, or stand.

I used the VideoMic to shoot a wedding and also for a few interviews that I have done. It captures the sound great and I haven't had any issues with it. There is definitely a significant increase in the quality of the recordings compared to the onboard mic on my 7D. I have only used it for indoor recordings so I am not sure how well it will perform outside yet. The only thing that I would say I don't like about it is how much it moves around and it can pick up that movement sometimes.

I got the mic to record on camera for interviews and small short films. It works great very clean sound out of the mic. The only thing I don't like about it is how it connects to the boom pole you can get to be very tight and It won't fall off from light shaking or moving but if you run it into something hard it might . The good new is the mic can take a fall Just fine and keep going. This is a great set for people who want good sound from there HDslr kits

I didn't like the way this product functioned at all. I was using a Sony HXR video camera. We replaced the stock mic and put this one in place of it. It over drove the daylights out of the pre-amp. The suspension system still let a fair amount of low end rumble make it through to the mic when being handled on a boom pole. In its defense there is no mic gain adjustment really on the Sony, so those of you with better cameras may have much better luck.

I bought it as a general purpose mic for a camera with a mini (1/8) jack. I also like that there are plenty of accessories that can be purchased for it and it can be mounted on a boom pole as well. The Rode VideoMic has proven itself time and time again in my productions and with countless other small(ish) budget productions it's a great mic for a great price from a great company.

I am a young film-maker, and needed a mic for interviews and everyday projects. This Rode shotgun mic fit the bill perfectly, and I'm glad I decided to go with it! There is really only one partial complaint--It tends to perform better outside than indoors. All in all though, if you're looking for an affordable product that lives up to its name, this mic is way to go!

A good mic, with good audio quality, considering the price. I found the mount almost useless as with the weight of the foam and dead cat, it sags at the front and falls into the frame of even a moderately wide angle lens. Also, the wind noise suppression of the foam plus the supplied dead cat is average and not suitable in anything more than a light breeze.

I used this for the first time at a wedding reception. I was getting an interview from the father of the bride and the music was blaring in the background so I couldn't hear half of what he was saying. I assumed the audio would be unusable but to my surprise you could hear every word crystal clear. This mic has exceeded my expectations. A must have for DSLR video.

This mic is great for smaller consumer camcorders. It is very light and has an easy to mount shock mount. Sound quality is a huge improvement over built in mic. If you are serious about capturing not just great video but great sound too then this is a great solution. I gave it 4 stars because of the plastic build. From a distance nobody will know. Just have to handle with care!

Price and service by B&H for my purchase of the Rode Video Mic and accessories were great. I knew what we were looking for and knew the product so B&H's service was having it, fair pricing and timeliness in delivery. The negative was when the delivery arrived to me the box delivered by UPS was opened. The mic and accessories were intact and in the end no damage but it was worrisome. This was probably the fault of UPS and not B&H but it did taint the experience.

I used this in a very (very!) noisy environment to try to capture a speaker talking to a group. Camera was positioned about 20 feet away. I was impressed with how well I could make out what the speaker was saying when I watched the resulting video. When I was shooting I thought there was no way it would work because of the noise going on 15 feet to my left. So I am impressed for such an affordable mic.

This is my first microphone purchase. I bought it as an upgrade from the audio recorded directly by the Canon 7D (which has that infamous clicking sound). I just used the mic for my first video project, and I'm very please. The sound is much cleaner. I'm not an audio expert, but this feels like a good investment for someone like me, who doesn't want to spend too much on a mic but still is looking for a more professional sound. Very happy so far.

This mic was hooked on a Panasonic TM700K HD Cam and it is perfect. Better than the on-board microphone and the RodeMic picks up the sound clearly. One of the best products I bought and I am glad BH Photo has this along with a boom which is really usable. I just have to modify the boom with a ball head so the mic can work on many angles. It is very light and compliments my Panasonic HD cam and my wife does not even notice that the mic is installed on the Cam's body. It is indeed a great buy!!! ... More

This microphone easily attached to my camera and couldn't be easier to set up (plug into mic jack on camera). The sound quality that I have been getting from this mic is great, a thousand times better than the internal microphone on most DSLRs. If you are on a budget and need some good audio, this is definitely not a bad choice.

I use this mic mainly for home videos of my family. It picks up sound well, easy to mount on my HS900 camcorder. Now that I have used it, I would prefer to purchase a external mount so the mic doesnt cover any controls on the top of my camcorder which it does now. The mic doesnt add much weight to the camera. Its well built. I would tell others who are in the market to check this product. I plan to look into more of Rodes products.

When you need to do photo and video at the same time, and good sound is needed, this is the fast way to do it. Video needs good sound linked with it. This Shotgun mic sets on my mark 2 well. cables and plugs fit. It has controls for db gain and more. off and on switch, so I can keep connected as I go to Photo mode. I do wish a case was included. Get the wind screen pull over to help if out on windy day.

I own a Canon 60d. I was looking for a mic that'd play well with it and I could use on a boom. I'm impressed with the audio. To test one night, I attached it to an audio recorder (an old minidisc unit I have) and monitored through the headphones. It seemed okay at first. Audio was clear but still had a little room hiss (later remedied by changing the db settings on the mic). When I removed my headphones my wife was upset, with me. Apparently she'd been callimg my,name from the other room. The mic picked up the sound I needed where I poimted. ... More
