I use this mostly to record scratch audio, and it does a good job of that. Unfortunately my building has a lot of digital RF interference, and this mic picks it up like that's it's job. I suspect the dinky little output cable.

Big audio improvement from the first generation VideoMic Pro! The Lyre suspension works really well much improved over the rubber bands. The dead cat is too long for the mic by 2 so I scrunched it together now it's only 1 too long. Overall the unit is much bigger the original VideoMic Pro. Have to say I'm really impressed with audio quality it sounds really good going directly into my Sony A7R II.

This is such a big improvement over my other mic! I use this with my Canon T6i and I love the ability to turn the volume way down on the camera and use the +12db on the mic to get rid of that hissing from the camera. The only thing I wish it came with, was a better option to put in on a boom mic stand, as I will probably never use it on the camera.

The Rode VideoMic Pro is a well constructed, quality engineered mic. I knew the sound quality of my DSLR video sound would be better, but didn't know it would be such an amazing improvement! The 20db boost and high pass filter are spot on for use with DSLR onboard sound. I could not be happier with this products sound quality and versatility. This is a must have for anyone looking to up their game!

Yay for the Aussies! Great product with one catch. The mic uses a 9V battery for power, and to insert the battery in its chamber and close the cover is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Its puzzling how their engineering staff allowed this to go to market with this flaw (yes, I regard it as a flaw). Sound reproduction is great, capturing the lower frequencies that I was hoping to record.

My new Rode VideoMic Pro lasted 10 minutes and then died. B&H handled the return and replaced the item immediately. I love B&H. I don't know yet if I love Rode. Hopefully the new one will work just as well for me as the other reviewers have reported.

I bought this for run-and-gun and was very pleased with it. But I've also found you can put it on a mike stand like a shotgun and use it interview-style. I used an adapter and XLR cable, and found it had very low noise and pleasing tonal quality for voice. No need to kill yourself gain staging, it was very forgiving IMHO. Try it if you have one, just keep the mic no more than about 18 inches from the speaker's mouth.

The automatic on/off as recording starts is alone worth the premium. For the past few days I have been recording internal remodeling job and had to move camera around workers quickly, changing angles, tripods, clamps and lenses. The timing was dictated by the situation, not by me. Having a mic that works as an extension of the camera is great - they sleep and wake up together. As for the sound, it's what you'd expect. More than good for that level of boom mic.

Rode mics are known for their quality and so you can't go wrong with the VideoMic Pro if you're wanting to record on-camera audio. I only wish it was a rechargeable item :/ but if you get rechargeable batteries, you're all set.

Thanks to the quick start guide, I popped this mic on my Canon EOS 5D Mark II and made a video of my boss answering questions for a collaborative project. It was fairly quick and easy. The mic does take a 9V battery, but luckily we had one hand. Sounds great when I play it back. We also purchased the fuzzy wind sock because our business is oceanfront on the Atlantic.

Your not gonna get movie quality sound out of this, but if you need a quick, easy, cheap way to get much better sound for your videos, this is the WAY to go. It does a great job don't get me wrong! It just isn't going to blow you away if that's what your expecting. It does the job....very well. I'm extremely happy with it!

I shot a lot of videos and need a good shotgun mic. After reading the reviews I thought that I would give this one a try. So far I can say I am very satisfied with the results. You just need a 9v battery and plug and play. The audio quality is good. I am glad that I bought this mic.

My second external microphone and I am pleased. Don't forget to turn it on though, because it has it's own power button. One 9 volt battery lasted me a week of all day/everyday shooting.

I love this Mic. I had an older videomic and the difference is amazing. The sound quality is excellent and in every way, except one, it is a 5-star product. The battery cover is wedged under the windscreen making it difficult to install and remove. I don't leave the battery in when not in use for a while. Maybe it is just me (and big fingers) though. Other than that I love it!

I had originally ordered Shure VP83 because I thought this Rode was too bulky, but VP83 had clunking noise inside. It sounded like parts were loose inside. No way to get rid of it. Returned it and got this one. There are many tests and reviews on this mic, and this mic really works as advertised.

This is a fantastic mic for picking up nat sound. I use it at weddings, and it's perfect. I was a broadcast journalist (MMJ) for five years, and this mic is at least as good as bigger, more expensive shotgun mics used on those cameras. The Lyre Shockmount is also really cool. It looks flimsy, even feels flimsy, but it's not. Holds up really well and reduces unnecessary rattles and taps you might get otherwise.

Bought this for vlogging, and it does the job. But don't be fooled into thinking it is going to should like a pro lapel mic or anything, you will need to work with it in post to bring it to a good level. That being said it IS possible to make this sound great (like I said with some post work) and for the speed of setup and versatility the price is fair enough! It's a good product - feel safe if you are looking at a purchase.

Highly recommend doing a test shoot with it before using it for shots that are meaningful. Using the +20 db is not for everything, but most things at a moderate distance. If you use the +20 for anything close up the sound will be highly distorted.

This thing is powerful! I had to play around with it to get the correct sound but once I got it it has been smooth sailing. I definitely Recomend getting this one above all other ones that cost less of the rode family. Whats good is that it plugs directly into the camera and there is no need for external sound recording. But I do recomend doing both if you can.
