We bought 3 of these mics, all have died within a year. I must say, they are easy to set up and they really sound fantastic... BUT They are cheaply made, the included cables (RX to camera) pretty much all stopped working within weeks. The mic cables on all of these sets went bad... 2 of them still work if you bend them in just a way. One set has the mic cable stuck into itself, it just spins and cant be removed. These were all used quite a bit, but were very well taken off. I hate to say it because our studio uses 4 other RODE products and really like them. ... More

We liked the idea that we could power the receiver via usb for our studio camera. Initially we powered it with batteries but later (after 30 days) we powered it via USB. I think we shot for about 5 to 10 minutes and a hissing noise suddenly appeared in the audio. We switched to battery and noise was gone. The hissing noise, to us, makes the audio unusable. We continue trying to power it via USB just in case it magically got fixed but nothing. When it's battery powered the audio is fine. The transmitter is bulkier than I expected. I'd have given it a 4 or 5 star rating if it didn't had this issue. ... More

Im getting great sound through this and decent range. I've experimented using the lav that comes with this kit and the Sennheiser lav from my older G2's and am impressed with what I am getting from both mics over this system. The Rode mic's cable though does feel more fragile/cheaper than the Senn's. Would be nice if the mic came with a mini-plug to XLR cable. Luckily I am able to use the cables from my old Senn kit. Would like it if the mic transmitter pack was smaller, 2/3rd the size or less - it is far bulkier than any of the other wireless systems I use. ... More

I've been making youtube video for several years now. This system has been a great upgrade to my audio. I shoot indoors only and in a room that can be a little boxy sounding. But with this mic my audio has greatly improved. Super easy to use, great adjustability, and I've had ZERO problems with the mic or the rec/transmitters since purchasing them. I shoot with a camcorder and everything works great. I highly recommend this system to anyone looking for better sound , specially over a shotgun style mic that they may be using now. My subscribers have greatly appreciated the better audio they are getting, and have said so time and time again. ... More

When I got the kit, everything worked fine when I tested it. I put everything away in a safe place. Maybe a month and a half later, I decided to take it out for a spin for a longer distance test, lav mic went out and it was only the second time I have used the mic. Not sure what to do next but to replace / return the mic which is still under warranty. The transmitter / receiver is working fine though. Warning...there is a interference hum when the mic come in close proximity of the transmitter.

Rode is a great company. all the microphones I've used sounded pretty good, and worked. This was easy to use and with proper use it seems like it will last. I especially like the usb power option.

The ease of use and quality of the RodeLink system is amazing, especially for the price in comparison to a lot of competitors. To be honest, the quality is just as good as a Sennheiser system I have that costs twice what this one does. We already knew that Rode makes killer products, and this system is no different. You can also use the transmitter/receiver system with a different lav mic if you find one you prefer to the one that comes with the kit. I use the RodeLink Filmmaker Kit on all my documentary and corporate interview shoots now. It's also really quick and easy to use if you're filming at live trade shows. ... More

Using a shotgun mike on a DSLR will only get you so far. A wireless transmitter/receiver duo, along with a lav, is ideal for creating videos with great sound and a professional look. The RodeLink Wireless Kit lives up to its billing- great sound, simple to use, reasonably priced, and effective over surprisingly long distances. In fact, to test the unit when we received it, we began walking up two flights of stairs and the sound quality received on the third floor (between floors and walls) was excellent. Thus far, we are all very impressed with the RodeLink Kit.

I love this system! After having headache after headache with my old mic kit (second hand job), i decided to splurge on these guys. Couldn't be happier. Pretty much 0 noise, great crisp recording and easy set up. I've seen a lot of people mention that they are plastic. It's really not a big deal. It's pretty solid stuff. Does't feel/look cheap. My only complaint would be their size they are pretty bulky compaired to othere packs I've used. I feel like they will be hard to hid in dramatic film, but haven't tested that yet.

Pros: the kit works out-of-the-box and a set of AAs lasts for several hours. I haven't tested the range yet, but it reportedly holds up over long distances.Cons: both the transmitter and receiver are bigger than the pictures would have you believe. I am also disappointed with the audio quality of the mic. It doesn't have a lot of presence and tends to sound a little tinny. For the price I expected the audio quality to be better, although it's certainly usable. It's fine but for $ I was hoping for better audio quality.

The TX ans RX worked great with an old audiotechnica mic I got because the included micon-1 malfunctioned after the 3rd use, like the wires are cut inside, the noise made it useless... but with another mic worked well

For this price point, this kit is awesome. It's easy to use and I've never had an interference issue. There is a good amount of background noise, but all the mics at this price point have it. I will say the mic cable shorts out VERY quickly. The way Rode designs their mics, you can't just buy a new cable, you have to buy a whole new lav mic which is basically the same price as the whole kit. I would purchase again if they would figure out that issue.

I am still learning to make the most of this. I hadn't used a lavalier mic and discovered that clipping it onto the neck of a t-shirt caused it to rub my beard stubble. It sounded terrible and I had to toss that clip. I also discovered that putting the transmitter in my back pocket caused considerable dropout....regardless of the distance from the receiver. I've taken corrective measures.....and since, it has worked perfectly.

The best feature of this wireless system is its sound. Completely free of noise and the included microphone sounds great. Pairs easily automatically (turn on transmitter first, then receiver), good range, but not as great as UHF based systems. As of this review, have had no problems with interference.

Strange title for a review, but it makes sense. Whenever I get new gear I love the learning process, and that part is always fun and exciting for me. This thing worked so easily there was virtually no need for a manual. Buying it was anti-climactic. But I couldn't be happier because, of course, this is about as good a feature as it gets.

We have used the RodeLink in a few shoots now. A couple of them inside around a lot of potential interference signals. The RodeLink had worked flawlessly! No interference and so simple to set up. Just turn it on and plugin it in. The batter life is also very good. Usually we can get through a day of shooting without changing them. The audio quality it also very good. I would highly recommend them. Good work Rode.

I used this with the newshooter mic and it worked well. I only give it 4 stars because it sync up but it would lose its connections and search to resync in the middle of my interviews. I would have to unplug from my camera to use the camera mic until it sync back up. I only used it once and I hope that does not continue. The purpose for investigating in this is to ensure I did not pick up background noises and no cables. Also the Newshooter mic is not as easy as it look when setting up via the menu. I had to watch youtube videos to figure it out. ... More

I'm giving it a 2 star for two reasons. One, we have not encountered connection issues and two, because it doesn't sound bad. The bad news is we've had the clips break on us and BOTH lav mic cords frayed and no longer make a connection. They feel cheap as well but we expected this given their price point. If I had to do it again, I'd pony up the coin for more professional tools.

As others have mentioned, the weakest point of this kit is the lav mic itself. Its very thin and doesnt seem to have enough shielding to block RF noise from entering. However, in most cases its sufficient. What is cool is that you can use this with VideoMic Pro and turn it into a wireless shotgun mic, enabling you to get the shotgun mic closer to the subject. Obviously not a pro solution, but if you need to, its possible.
