We used to only use Sennheiser mics but we switched to these and haven't noticed any difference in audio quality. One thing I absolutely love about them is that the receiver shows the battery life for both the transmitter and the receiver. So all you need to ever do is turn on the mics and make sure they are on the same channel. So simple and easy to use. I haven't used them in a large environment where we might pick up interference like a Stadium yet, but I have read that that is the drawback for these mics. An unexpected downside is how big the transmitter pack is. It's larger than the Sennheisers because the antenna is internal. Kind of a bummer to give your talent such a large pack but at least it works well and sounds good. ... More

We find this product works good for what we need, weddings and commercial shoots. BUT 3rd time out on a shoot the wire failed us. $50 for a new wire, way to go Rode. I then took the old wire apart and found the center wire broken, not the outer ground wire. The wire is literally held on with heat shrink, if you make a small pull on the cable either end they will break. Very poor design indeed.

Great wireless lav setup. There are loads of 5 minute videos on YouTube that will show you exactly how to set it up. Once you get used to the RodeLink it will take you about 30 seconds to get it up and running. Audio quality is great, even using the onboard amp in my 70d. Range is also excellent and I have never really had any issues with signal loss under normal shooting environments. The only reason I gave this product 4 stars is because the lav that is included is very expensive and seems to be very fragile. That said other lav's work, just be careful with which one you pick because not all lav's will work with it. ... More

I have used the system for two assignments and it has been rock solid and sounded great. The units are a tad bulky compared to Sennheisers but workable. The quick connection, price and internal antenna make for great unit. I was concerned enough about the Lav cable enough to contact RODE about it but they assured me that the the Micon-1 and the Lav capsule are both hard-wired to the cable for durability. The heatshrink also serves to make the joint between the Micon and the cable stronger. I do plan to carry a back-up lav but given the excellent warranty my worries we put to rest. I have run the sound into both the camera (Nikon D800) and a Tascam DR1 with good results. I prefer the external recorder for sound quality and control. I plan to complete the kit with the Rode TX-XLR Wireless Transmitter once it is released. ... More

I love, love, love this kit. It's simple to setup and doesn't take a lot of effort. I just clip the mic to the subject hit both buttons on and the rest is magic. It's simple and doesn't have a lot of unnecessary buttons. The audio comes out great and I barely have to do anything!!!

I bought a set of two of these for one-man-band productions. The lav cable and micron connectors are very weak. The connections will break internally and cause the mics to pop, cut out, and eventually stop working. I've been through 4 lav wires in two years, which seems on par with what others are reporting. Overall the sound quality is great and the kit works well, but if you're looking for something that will withstand the test of time, you might want to consider a different brand.

I initially wrote a 5 star review for this wireless mic kit. I still think the received and transmitter are solid, however, the mic wire is another story. It is very thin, cheap and susceptible to interference and noise when the talent moves. Rode should definitely put better shielding on this wire.

Using the mikes on Canon XA20. Excellent range, good sound. Mikes very sensitive in doors. Use caution with indoor use. Picked up interference from close TV or cable boxes. Very good audio captured outdoors. Transmitter larger than expected.

I've used separate microphones on my video, but the audio still wasn't like it was right on top of the source. I've wanted to pick up a wireless microphone for a few years, and even though there are a few versions out there, didn't think I'd use it that often to justify some of the high end prices out there. A friend told me to try the RodeLink since that's what he used. So I did. Now I'm super happy. VERY simple and easy set-up, quick linking, adjustable dB level on TX and RX, if you need it, and superb audio. The microphone picks up very clean and clear audio, but also is able to pick up the side conversations so everything is very realistic. No noise or dropouts at all. Plus with the 2.4 Gb channel, no interference at all during my recordings. Really pleased with this Filmmaker kit and the lavaliere microphone that came with it. ... More

... More

I just received the wireless mic kit. I've been putting it through tests, both inside and out. So far, it works just as good as advertised. I did find the pairing process to be very easy but only AFTER having to go the the RODE website. The instructions with the units for pairing are both too small to read and don't provide the info required to do the job. Web site was great and mics paired quickly. I've not tested the distance but functions well in hostile environments (the microwave) and through walls. Sound is a bit hot but not distorted. I lowered both the transmit and receive sides... as well as the camera. Good quality and no drops. I'm looking forward to using it in a project later this week. ... More

I am a wedding videographer, the device is built very well good material feels solid. has all necessary accessories to be mounted on camera. sleek design, great range, - the lav microphone works very well to. no extra noise comes with wind protector too. - overall very happy, does not dry your batteries - have the sennheiser one which is $ more expensive - Rodeo gives great quality too would not spend now $ for it's competitor. Next one will be Rodeo too - . - Yes I do recommend it!

I've used this mic on several interviews now and I have no complaints. It's very simple to use and sounds great. It doesn't pick up a lot of room noise which I find very helpful. As some have said, you may be able to get a bit more quality by upgrading the mic (which I haven't tried), but at the end of the day this is a super solid unit.

I own a visual content creation company that does video, photography, and design. For most my setups I use one of Rodes shotgun mics, but recently we're doing an event recap video with lots of testimonial footage. I figured the best option would be a lav mic for this situation. After testing it a lot I'm really happy with the sound quality. The ease of use is also amazing. I'm using it with my Canon 70D but recording it directly to a Zoom H1 recorder. Recording to the Zoom sounds a lot better then running it directly to the 70D. The 70D sound is acceptable but I can see a big boost in quality using an actual audio recorder. Overall totally recommend! ... More

I purchased the Rode RODELink Filmmaker Kit Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System (2.4 GHz) after comparing it to several other systems in this category. I set the system up and used it on a wedding rehearsal. Upon review of the video of the rehearsal there was a loud buzzing noise in the audio portion of the video playback. After investigating deeper into faults with this system I found out that there were many people who complained about the unshielded lavalier microphone cable and the unshielded connection cables provided with the system. Needless to say, I did not use it the next day on the wedding shoot. I am returning the system to B & H Photo for full refund. ... More

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Inexpensive lav kit but the audio dropped out every few seconds while shooting interviews in a conference event in a big space. I'm guessing due to interference with other signals in the busy space. MY interviews are almost unusable due to this.

While these are a little bigger and slightly more plastic(y) then other lav systems I've used, they sound great and have the features I wanted for a good price. The only trouble I had, and reason for this review is that the Micon-1 adapter was faulty. Straight out of the box the system was consistently cracking and super noisy. Thanks to another users post, I bought a new Micon-1 adapter and the problem was solved.

You can't beat this for the price point. I've used other wireless kits at this price point and this sounds the best. It's dead simple to setup too, just turn it on and go. The build is nice, you don't have to open it up to turn it on. It feels a bit more plasticky than some of the other wireless I've used and it is quite large, but the antenna is internal, so you don't have to worry about breaking it off. The only problem I have with it, is there are rubber stoppers covering a screw hole on the back of the transmitter which popped off immediately (doesn't affect the internal workings, so that's not a big problem). It doesn't come with a XLR so it's great for a DSLR, but you can get an adapter. It holds a battery pretty well too, I used it for hours without replacing the batteries. ... More

I gave it a 5 because its more than what I expected. We bought two sets of these to use with our Canon XA10. It took a little tweaking to get them to stop clipping (could have been an issue with the XA10 or combination of both). We ended up having to turn both the Rode RX and TX down to well below clipping to get it to stop. The sound is pretty good, not great, but they are quite affordable and the build quality is much better than one would expect at this price range. I would put it at the same level as the Shure BLX product line. ... More
