The first shotgun mic I bought was cheap, from @, but when I heard what a good one sounds like, the quality is certainly worth the money, in both build and sound. I just tested this mic, using a preamp, at different settings, with and without a AA battery using phantom power from the preamp, with and without the high pass filter on. I don't know enough about audio gear to know what the latter does, I did notice a difference in sensitivity, but the quality of sound was excellent with any of these settings.

This mic has been around for a long time and there's a reason why it's still on sale and still highly recommended. It sounds so clear, has a great range, and is so simple to use. Sure there are tons of new shotgun mics out there, including new ones from Rode, but if you need something that works great without all the fancy bells in whistles, this is the mic for you. When it comes to audio gear, never go cheap because a good mic should last you at least 10 years, this mic is sturdy enough to last much longer. ... More

I use a Panasonic AG-HMC40. I had previously been using a rode SVM, and a Rode Videomic with the mini input. When my camera had to be replaced I got the XLR kit with the new one, and went with this mic, running phantom power. Wow. Man, I wish I had done this from the beginning. The sound is so much cleaner than running with the mini jack, and this is with the camera set up on a tripod, talent 3-4 foot away. Even with the noise removal plugin ( sony vegas ) to get rid of the central air noise, the sound is still great. ... More

I bought this mic on good reviews ....Currently I'm using the mic for interviews and pieces to camera by the journalists at my work.I've found that this mic works very well when it's close to the subject who is speaking at a good volume.I use the mic with a Zoom H4n Recorder, which unfortunately doesn't provide it enough juice to perform at its best. It will require an external portable field mixer to fix the problem.Besides that the construction of the mic is awesome, and I'd highly recommend the item.

I'll start off by saying I'm certainly no audiophile and can't tell you the subtle nuances between this shotgun mic and another but I can say it's been great for me. I shoot weddings and, though this is not my main source of audio, having it on my Canon XF100 is a great addition. During a recent shoot, it provided clear professional audio that'll be great for b-roll sound. Rode is a respected brand and the NTG-1 is widely respected so, this being my first shogun mic purchase, I'm happy with the end result.

Good, broadcast quality sound! Simple as that. I use this microphone with my Zoom H4N to record sound with my Canon 5D MKII. A must have, if you lack great budget. It simply gets the job done! Highly recommended! I am taking away just one star because there is no ON/OFF switch on this mic. Once you place a battery in it, the clock starts ticking!

I use this mic with my Canon XH-A1 for interviews, weddings, sporting events. Its reproduction of sound is very good. I would buy it again. The existing mic holder that comes with my Canon was made for a slightly larger (larger in diameter) boom mic. This problem was corrected by using a thin rubbery like plastic strip wrapped around the mic inserted in the Canon mic holder. It works great now. Since my camera has phantom power, I don't need to mess with the battery, but its nice to have that option.

I've been using this microphone for weddings and outside filming and it has been wonderful. Even with wind, the wind cover that comes with it provides great protection and quiet. The sound is warm and crisp and has been well received by all my clients. Not to mention, the price was very affordable without a compromise of quality. I definitely would buy again.

This is the best mic ever! I'm so happy with it and I will use it forever. It produces great sound. This is great if you are new to sound recording or if you are professional. I use this mic for my video recordings with my recorder or attached to my camera, depending on what I'm filming. I'm glad I spent the extra money and got the NTG-2 and not the NTG-1 because the NTG-1 requires phantom power, where this one can use phantom power, or you just add a battery. I'm very happy with this mic and will always recommend it. Its perfect! ... More

I bought the kit that included the NTG-2, shock mount and cable to use with my 60D and only wish there would've been a recommendation about using a preamp with it on B&H's site. Overall, really clear and great sound quality, even without a preamp. Can't wait to hear it properly... Also, I wish there was an on/off switch or that unplugging the mic would disconnect the AA battery. It's definitely a pain to remove while leaving the mic in the shock mount.

Mic construction is light weight and solid. Came with camera/boom mount and sound screen (recommend the Deadcat windcover for outdoor shoots. Voice sound quality is cery good with a warmer quality than my Sennheiser. Also was better at rreducing pops than my Sennheiser! I use this mic mainly for in studio 1 or 2 person interviews and it works very well. I recommend using a boom, not on-camera tho for best quaality sound. (I would say this of any mic) I highly rcommend this Mic as a great value in it's price range.

I do a lot of outdoor videography and got the NTG2 after a lot of browsing and deliberating. I'm not an expert on microphones so I had to rely on reviews here on B&H, and on Youtube and Vimeo. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I use my NTG2 connected directly (through an adapter) to my Panasonic Lumix GH2 mirrorless SLR. This combo will pick up voices and ambient sound in great quality. For me, capturing the sound of running water in good quality is important, as I film salmon and trout anglers, and this mic does that perfectly.

Did a side by side with an Audio Technica (in the same price range) and this mic using an H4n. The NTG-2 had better rejection of ambient sound and had a better frequency response range.

This Mic will be used in a couple different applications. Mainly for audio to a Canon 60D DSLR, through the Tascam DR-60D MK2 recorder. Second use will be for a parabolic shotgun mic. Used on a 24 x 36 polished satellite dish. For the money this mic is just as good as the NTG-4. Only drawback, it should have an on/off switch when using internal battery

I needed a decent shotgun mic for news video work, and this is filling the bill nicely. I bought the kit with the mount, and I'm very happy. Pretty typical shotgun pickup pattern, but better response than most. Voices sound very natural. I was worried that one of the XLR pins was longer than the others, but Rode's web site explained that it's supposed to be. It's the ground pin, and they want to make sure to make ground before either channel. (Whew!) I also purchased a furry windscreen for it, and it works well outdoors.

This is my favorite microphone that I own. I use it as a boom microphone and also do voice overs with it. I recommend a shock mount system such as the Rode Blimp. Another nice feature is the option for a battery because it allows me to use it with my consumer camcorder without the need of purchasing of an adapter. The microphone also has the advantage of adding practically no noise. What ever I hear on the set, will be what the audiences hear. This microphone is top notch quality and does have its place near the top.

I spent months researching mics and audio equipment, I talked with pros already using mics and asked their opinions, and time after time, I heard Rode NTG-2. You literally get a professional sound indoors and outdoors at a fraction of the price most people spend on other name brand mics. I have never had any problems with this mic.

I purchased the NTG2 to plug into my Roland RO5 for a small boom kit for interviews.. Have had it for about a week and used it on two three interviews. Great sound low noise.. Once you hit the sweet spot it is amazing. The only thing thus far that I noticed that is slightly annoying is the RODE mic bag it comes with is a little tight with just the accesories that came with the mic. So with that, if you are going to buy this you might look into a carrying case. Phantom power ROCKS.

Rode always has great audio and this was exactly what I expected from rode. I use it with my panosanic AG-AC 90 and the audio is flawless. It has a highpass filter that works great as well. I love this thing! I had to use this to record an event and although you heard some of the plates and silverware clinging in the crowd at points, it picked up the speakers voice very clearly. It was not muffled or faint.

Just what I was expecting, in fact it exceeded my expectations. I was looking at many other mics and asked various audio professionals for advise and the answer always came to this beautiful mic. Very easy to use, the sound quality is amazing! Perfect for promotional videos, short films and interviews. I first used it for a promotional video for a concert and loved the outcome, very clear, crisp sound. I love that you can use either a 2 AA battery or phantom power! I recommend it with an H4n.
