I just entered the blue tooth speaker arena in the last six months, wanting a speaker I can put on my tailgate and listen to while I work on fire hydrants, around the house and pool too. This speaker does what its specifications and reviews claim. Though I wanted a louder one, this gets pretty loud within range and reason. It cant overcome a loud semi-truck going by, but around the pool its great. The bass is surprising for such a small speaker. durability seems pretty good so far, I am not worried about breaking anything off of it lets say. Controls seem encapsulated and protected though easy to use. That said, there were no instructions about how to do different things like pause, skip, next, etc.. Just a quick start guide. Deeper instruction on how to use it comes from the internet I suppose. ... More

Connectivity was seamless. No problem pairing with iPhone or laptop. Provides ample volume in a normal setting. Haven't tried outdoors wit a crowd. One drawback is that there is too much bass and a lack of midrange frequencies. No EQ capability in the speaker itself. Laptop and iPhone EQ is limited to what your music app or stand-alone EQ app provides, and they onl provide marginal improvement. Last thing is that the automatic shutdown feature works too quickly. As I was transcribing a recording, I would pause to type a partial line or phrase and the speaker would disconnect momentarily so that when I hit play, the first few seconds were cut off. We're talking I would pause for maybe 15-30 seconds. ... More

This speaker sounds great for the size but there is a hardware limitation that can ruin the listening experience. It has a mono driver, not stereo. So certain recordings, you can be missing instruments entirely because they were recorded with the intent of being played back on stereo speakers. You can get some instrumentation back by manually changing the balance from center (which is default) to L or R bias but if a single recording alternates a particular instrument L and R, it will still sounds weird. I haven't noticed any issues with most songs, luckily, but for a few, it drives me crazy. I'll just have to make sure my next purchase contains stereo drivers to avoid this limitation. ... More

Unfortunately this would not work for me as the JBL app is not compatible with this model, which is crazy and, why not mention this in the promoting info? :(

I was looking to upgrade my portable bluetooth speaker and decided to give this one a shot. I am no audiophile, but the sounds seems to be a bit too heavy on the low end for my taste. This could be good for bumpin some pop jams at the pool or at a beach (the bass is nice and thick), but if you like to listen to something with more mid-range, or classical music, this speaker seems to muddy down the track. The speaker is perhaps better suited to bass heavy party jams than solo listen-while-sketching-by-candle-light vibes.

I've only had this a couple weeks, but I love how big and full the sound is and how loud it can go, despite it's relatively small size. According to the folks at JBL I talked to, you can turn the volume up literally as high as it can go and the speaker should be able to handle it. I haven't tested that, but have cranked it very loud and it sounds excellent. I also like that I could pair this with other JBL speakers for either stereo or surround sound. I haven't tested its waterproof-ness, but trust that to be true. ... More

I travel quite a bit for work, and this things is perfect for filling the hotel room with great music. Highly recommended. I put it on the window sill and the bass seems to amplify the whole room. Yet, it's small enough to not be noticed in my carry-on.

I’d read quite a bit about these and other options, being keen on good sound and quality kit. Although I expected this to be good, I’m surprised how good it is - for the cost and especially for its size - just 18cm long. Very portable and seems very well made. Running time claims also seem about right. Excellent item and service by Argos - supplied this quickly after another retailer failed to get hold of it after taking my order. Big thumbs up, thanks!

Flip 5 has the power, design, quality and effects we’re all after. Its portable and looks premium. latest JBL models use partyBoost rather than connect+. Means can use two as one speaker. however new models having partyBoost, JBL really outdone themselves by making their own products not compatible with each other, so annoying and brand destroying yo. (You know it ought to be true if it rhymes) a complete turn off and forget bluetooth device if you ask me. Highly recommend otherwise.

This item was on sale everywhere, and the River Teal color was sold out in many online stores, including JBL's own website. So pleased that B&H had it in stock, with free S/H, and was able to ship immediately. Daughter received this for her birthday and can stop stealing her brother's Flip 4. We love the sound of these speakers, and their quality, and look forward to connecting them for surround sound. Be aware that the Flip 5 is slightly larger than the Flip 4.

I have purchased this item and have no issues with the overall quality of the product. Only wished I waited until the sales as this item is now 30% cheaper of the original price. This is a big difference in the price, that I have paid for it. Good portable speaker does what it says on the discription. Worth buying especially now that it's cheaper than the original price. Takes a little bit long to charge up. Charger lead could be a little bit longer than it is.

This is a pretty small speaker hence the sound is a bit fuzzy. It was ok-ish for listening music but for audiobooks was a killer, very noisy, blaring low tones. Although, it is compact in size and easy to carry with a strap around your wrist. If you’re after a more decent speaker, add extra £20 to get JBL Charge 4 which has far more expansive sound and longer battery life.

This was a requested Xmas present - recipient v happy with it as provides good sound and extra happy that this particular model was made from recycled plastics. As the gift giver I was also pleased as this was the best price I found and I love the fact that I can just collect it from my local Argos, which I didn’t even know existed still I started collecting my Habitat purchases from there. I’ve been thinking about getting a portable Bluetooth speaker for some time now but I’ve had no idea which model to get. Until now. The JBL flip 5 is excellent. It’s got easy to understand instructions, it feels very sturdy and sounds excellent. It’s like having a Hi-Fi system in your bag! I can play my favourite tunes with great sound quality, perfect for picnics and parties. At such a good price I can’t praise it enough. Highly recommend.

This speaker is pretty loud, and has really good bass, but I thought the clarity of the treble was a bit lacking. The build quality is very solid, and I felt like it would survive a few drops. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a speaker that can start a good party on the move, but not one looking for pure beautiful sound.

Very happy with these speakers. Quite small but the sound is good for small speakers. Got them because of the party boost feature where you can link them together. Two to start with may get some more in the future. Downsizing so going to get rid of my big Wharfedales & replace with these. Can only connect by Bluetooth, but can connect my phone and computer that way now. It says get two speakers for stereo. I'm just listening to Whole Lotta Love & it sounds the same out of both speakers ie mono.

I is item to have some music while I and the wife sat out in the garden. It was a bit more than I had planned on spending but I liked it better than the others on offer. The sound quality and volume from this Bluetooth speaker is amazing, simple controls. Saving up for another one as they can be linked together so one up stairs and the other down. It comes in a strong styrene case for transit has a charging usb cable and good old fashioned simple instructions

Remarkably good sound for such a small device, even at high volume - and it does go very loud indeed! Easy to pair as a Bluetooth slave, the JBL app is fairly useless though unless you want to use the speaker in conjunction with others (stereo pair or just louder!) Bluetooth range is not great but adequate for most purposes. On the basis of a short period of use, I'd say the sound is best with the speaker hanging from its lanyard. Good value at current Argos price.
