I have only used the output side which is what I bought it for. The inputs are a bonus. I am using this to connect a Macbook to a theater sound system. The balanced output is perfect at the +4db level of professional gear. Also, I can run two discrete channels without worrying about bleed over from one channel to the other which I get with the internal sound jack. This is a huge improvement. It is built solid.

Using this interface for recording audio for video, wild. I've got to Neumann KM 184s as a microphone source, the preamp's are quiet, and very clean. I would rate them as a neutral sound, with perhaps just a slight hint of darkness to them. Hands-down, the price performance leader according to my own research.

This model has two equivalent input channels allowing me to record stereo output from my mixing console. The pre-amps on the input channels exhibit a good range of gain, provide low latency analog to digital conversion and produce a high quality digital waveform for use in my DAW software. This model also allows direct monitoring (connecting input directly to output for sound / continuity / cable check), and allows selection of either mono and stereo monitoring. I simply plugged the device into an iMac and it worked perfectly, without any additional software or driver installation or configuration.

I preface this by saying I'm an audio engineer by trade for the last 20 years. Concerts, tours, TV shows, studios, you name it. The 2i2 has been the gold standard in the industry since it came out, and for good reason. It sounds great and you can depend on it working every time. It's built tough with a solid aluminum shell so you can throw it in your bag and not worry about it breaking. Focusrite hardware is just rock solid reliable on both Windows & Mac platforms. I've owned 4 Focusrite interfaces over the last 10 years (still own 3) that I've used on both Mac & Windows machines and they just simply work every single time. ... More

I use this to make terrible recordings of my practice so that, after my untimely demise, my estate might release an overpriced compilation box set called, "Pointless Wittling" or whatever. It will only appeal to my most ardent fans and currently I have none of those. I like this thing because it is quite useful to be able to actually hear what you've done after its over. Its easy to use, creates a recording that sounds like what you actually played. I guess just study that various sorts of cables that are available so you have what you need based on what youre planning to do with it. And get a good computer too. ... More

I use this for audiobook narration. It's very easy to set up and the sound quality is great. I've used their instant chat to help solve issues with my Mac not recognizing it. They were very helpful and efficient. I don't think I would have solved it without them. (Usually you have to plug it into the Mac and restart it to have the 2i2 recognized; however, the one time it didn't...instant chat solved it.)

I bought the Maudio and returned it for this. I had a few crashes until I went to Focusrite web site to download newer drivers. Wokrs nice now, but I have only used it with headphones for I'm waiting on my backordered speakers. I not using it to record instruments but instead using for video editing. I like that all controls are on the front as well as headphone jack. I may use it to record voice overs but have not use it for that yet either.

I am really enjoying the quality of the standard mic from focusrite. Considering I purchased it mainly for the interface, I decided to go with the focusrite microphone since I've learned that same brand products compatibility trumps figuring out other options without any well-sourced experience and/or feedback. The microphone & headphones are getting the job done at a high quality level. I use the focusrite interface with Pro Tools 2021 version & FL Studio 20. The stand, pop filter, and reflection filter are all sturdy and working together wonderfully to create a quality vocal session. No complaints from me on this purchase! ... More

I'm using the 2i2 as a way to conduct interviews far an amateur podcast. I'm not an audio tech person, but the 2i2 was easy to hook up and use. The only difficulty was that my dynamic mics didn't register at low gain levels, so I didn't think the 2i2 was working initially. After messing with levels, everything is fine, now.

The unit itself is solid and attractive. The knobs rotate smoothly. XLRs plug in securely. It takes awhile to install the software; really need to read the set-up instructions first. I didn't buy it for the complementary software; and good thing, as the current version of Pro Tools First is not yet compatible with Mac OS 10.15 Catalina (it loaded and looked viable, but I couldn't match up the bit rate between the computer default and the software default); and the PC version would not unzip (after a long time waiting for what seemed to be the install process, it prompted me to approve finishing the un-install). So, purchase this for the hardware, not the software. ... More

Love the Scarlett 2i2. Works as advertised. I wouldn't waste time with the ProTools First promo. I spent fruitless couple hours trying to get it to work with my Windows 10 system. Ableton wasn't much better and it's graphics and user interface are 1970s quality, in my opinion. I was able to easily connect Scarlett through the Focusrite Control software and Magix Acid (formerly Sony Acid), which I already own, where I recorded each channel simultaneously and separately...channel 1 was XLR voice and channel 2 instruments. I'd recommend that Focusrite and retailers package a truly functional DAW with the unit and forget the the promo baby DAWs that are free by, IMHO, worthless. ... More

I'm not an expert and took the recommendation of another to get this. A few things I didn't realize... It records the mic on one channel in MONO. Duh. I just assumed Stereo. The second channel can be another mic for Stereo. The other thing I learned is that 1/4 phono cable from your guitar can go into the other channel... These connectors work both ways. I'm probably the only one who didn't know that! Anyway it's great, give Phantom Power to my Mic and you get to choose Inst (instrument) or Air (Mic) as the type of input, and run up the GAIN to balance them. For the price The 2i2 is wonderful. It feels solid, and knobs are pleasing to touch. with the USB-C port, I can use charging chords for my phone I have laying around to plug it in, if the chord that came with it ever goes missing. yes, if i crank the gain all the way to its max, I do get some slight buzzing and feedback noise- but that is pretty expected. I have a feeling this will last me a good number of years, until i am ready to commit to something more. for an entry level price, there is a reason I think this interface comes so highly recommended to those just starting out. ...
