For the price you can't beat what you get here: A reliable mic with settings and features that really give some flexibility and quality. One battery lasts 400+ hours and the stereo pickup is fairly sensitive. When there is no sound there is a whisper of white noise that is neither disturbing or distracting. This is perfect for the 5D Mark II. It mounts on with the short coil cable and doesn't get in the way, and also has vibration dampeners and does not pick up IS vibration or hands pressing buttons. I'd recommend this for concerts as it has a high pass filter switch for omitting bass frequencies as well. ... More

I initially used this microphone to record interviews at trade shows. I'd have the subject hold the mic "handheld", because trade shows are noisy events. The mic worked perfectly for this - because it snaps easily in and out of it's hot-shoe mount. Three years later and I'm filming Jeeps "running" off-road trails. It's a rugged, run-and-gun environment, and this mic once again performs excellently, capturing rich stereo audio primarily from the front of the camera. Its often windy outdoors so I added a "dead cat" to eliminate the low-frequency wind noise.

I use the mic for Canon 5D Mark II. It was the best I could find in terms of price, size, stereo and connections. Mic has hot-shoe mount and rubber parts between mount and mic itself, which eliminate noise of touching camera. I read cons, that it does not have a on/off indicator light, I like it, as it does not use extra battery (AAA). I checked several other mics online. Ther are either mono or bulky and too expensive (possible for high professionals and studios). SMX10 has great sound quality for everyday use, much better then camera internal one. I cannot confirm that it is real shotgun mic, as it takes sound 360 degrees. The documentation came with it is not informative. Mic has one more switch and I still cannot realize the sound difference of using it. Overall, I like it and if I'd need to buy mic again, I'll buy Azden. ... More

I was offered several microphones for my Canon SD camcorder by a wonderful salesman. He understood that I needed a mic for choral music and from the distance of a choir loft to the altar where the singers and musicians would be; about 100 feet. After using this new mic for the first time and then recording to DVD, everyone including myself was truly amazed by the clarity, pickup and beauty of the recording. All the soloists and the chorus members were finally happy with the results this wonderful mic provided. I might add that the price at B&H was terrific as well. I have been a customer for some time and I trust their products and advice. They have never failed me. These are the experts so try for yourself. Much good luck with your products. Peter. ... More

I only buy Azden microphones because i've yet to be disappointed. This microphone is small in size but big in sound! It greatly enhances sound in front of you while greatly eliminating sound behind you. I've done interviews with the subject outside, 6 feet away and alot of background noise and after injesting it into my editing software, it sounded as though the subject was right next to the camera... clear and crisp! The only reason i'm not giving it a 5 star is because it needs a led light for power. I've forgotten to shut the mic off several times. It fits my Sony FX7 camera perfectly. ... More

I wanted a cheap, stereo mic for my T2i for mini-concerts. Initially tried the Rode. It was clear and isolated what I was shooting, taking out other noise I didn't want. But the Rode was 1)too big 2)more expensive 3)mono. The sound I got from this Azden is not as clear as the Rode and I could hear other noises I didn't want. But for the price, it's fair enough and mostly accomplishes what I want. Definitely much easier to transport than the Rode. I would recommend for amateur-ish recordings.

This mic is exactly what I was looking for when I bought it, I use it for filming bmx and it's brilliant seriously love it. It also comes with a mount that has two medal platforms on two prices of rubber that hold it together and makes it really flexible. The only con I can think of is that there is no light or anything to let you know the battery is still working so when you upload your clip to the computer and the sound quality isn't very good you got to go film it all over again.

This does an adequate job of recording audio. It does screen out side noise. However, I didn't feel it was sensitive enough to pick up quiet voice passages on a stage, which I COULD hear with my ears. I was also disappointed that there is no light to let you know whether it is on or off. You can however see the audio meter registering on your camcorder. But don't forget to look!

I use this on my Canon 5d mkII, and it mounts easy. I mostly use it for reference audio, since I use a Zoom h4n for the audio. That being said, it is light years ahead of Canon's built-in mic, and it is loads better than Rode's stereo mic. It is also slimmer than the Rode by more than 1/2 and very discreet. Rode's mic is so big, everyone sees it! This one also has better sound, and sometimes it picks up sounds that the Zoom doesn't! Incredible value, costs 1/2 of the Rode. If you want good sound for good value, you have to pick up this mic! ... More

I use it outdoors only on a Canon XHA1, Sony FX1 and Sony FX7. It's better than the onboard mics, good sound quality, it's easy to use and it's light weight. I don't get the hissing or echo effect that others have mentioned. It does need a better windscreen, the stock one doesn't cut it. I bought a Rycote Softie that took care of the wind noise. I too wish it had an LED to let you know if the mic is on or off. I would have given 5 stars if it had the LED.

I am using two of these mics in a two-camera prosumer set-up. Sound is great and the low-frequency filter works well to eliminate rumble. I love the rubber mounts. The only thing I would love to see on these microphones is an LED or other light to let you know the mic is turned on or off. I have already burned out a few batteries having forgotton to turn off the mics inbetween use.

I use this microphone on my Canon T2i DSLR Camera. It is conveniently small in size, fits right on top and doesn't get in the way and captures much better audio than the on-board microphone. The main reason I am satisfied though is because the price is right. It's a cheap mic and that's nice, considering you're still improving your audio quality over the camera's internal mic. One thing I should note is I use the Magic Lantern firmware for the T2i, which disables the Automatic Gain Control (AGC). Disabling the AGC is impossible without downloading the Magic Lantern firware and I am not sure if this mic would help me if I didn't have ML installed. ... More

I use this mic on my panasonic hc-v770 camcorder for recording live concerts and audition video's for my oboist teenager. I like the fact that it's both stereo and directional. I don't hear much hiss even with the camcorder pre-amp turned up a few notches. I'm happy with this product esp. at this price point. For better recording's if/when needed I would probably go with off-camera mic's into digital recorder or pre-amp.

I'm getting into shooting advanced HD video with my Rebel T2i and needed a microphone to cut wind noise as well as hopefully give me good stereo sound. I tested it at an outdoor concert and was blown away at the quality of the recorded sound. While I've only used it once so far so cannot comment on durability, it has so far exceeded my expectations.

Have noticed that the battery is not needed when mic used with the Panasonic hdc-sd900 camcorder or even the Nikon d5100 as it appears the mic is powered by the camera. The on off switch makes no difference and you can only tell the difference when you unplug the mic. Anyone agree? or am I mistaken. Graham

Bought mic for my Panasonic HCV-700 HD camcorder. Although my camcorder has no earphone jack, when I plug in the Azden mic, a vu meter appears across the screen. Very Helpful. The mic produces very clear, noiseless sound and picks up well in the direction it's pointed. Mic is neither too small or too big. I noticed no wind rumble with mic used outside, but have not tested it on the beach. Overall excellent and far surpasses the built in mic on my camcorder.

The recorded sound is much better than the built in camera microphone and quite a bargain campared to other stereo microphone options. I have also used this microphone with my ZOOM H4n and I am impressed with the quality of the sound recorded. I also found that turning on the microphone's low cut filter provides me the best sound recording. I will probably get a shoe adapater to fit my HF100 as well. ... More

No problems with, nor do I just love it to death... it's a very small basic mic and it does what it's supposed to. It records stereo to my Panasonic HMC-40 better than the built in mic does, although admittedly the first thing I did was get rid of the ugly and relatively useless shock mount it came with and started using the MUCH better Azden SMH-1 shock mount instead. I have no complaints so far and I like the very light weight and small size... although it's almost too short to fit the SMH-1 shock mount!!

It works great. I've always wanted an external microphone for my camcorder but my camcorder did not support an external microphone. So...I bought a new camcorder that supported an external microphone. Both were less expensive than I thought, thanks to B&H Camera. I am not a professional, I just take videos of events that occur in the retirement home where I live and the camera and Azden SMX-10 Stereo Microphone is quite adequate - I love it.

I use the SMX-10 on a Canon 7D for video, its quick and easy to attach and unobtrusive if you want to swop between video and stills. Have only used it outside for documentary type work and for kids and sound quality is WAY better than the built in mic. Only con so far is that it doesnt have a LED to show its switched on, its easy to forget to switch on or off without an LED reminder. Besides the LED which is minor its a very good buy.
