Best Camera I've Owned
Right off the bat this is by far the best camera I've used. Yes it has its faults - but at the time of writing this review I strongly believe it is the camera to beat! I own the GH4 and a range of Canon DSLRs and simply nothing can beat the A7s. I use it predominantly for behind the scenes shooting in news studios and the low light is amazing! Having a silent shooting option is fabulous when you're taking pictures in an environment where there ar... Show More

Better than expected!
I upgraded from my a7 after deciding not to wait for the mkii and couldn't be happier. The dynamic range and sensitivity are truly amazing. I feel that I made a great decision.

I love my Sony a7s
A professional wedding videographer, I love the special features of the a7s, auto focus, high ISO, zebra exposure features, it is light, compact and produces amazing video. The controls for video are simple, shutter, f-stop and iso all are separate on top of the camera

Average autofocus and bad shutter button
I own this camera since three months, I use for portrait, landscapes, low-light photography. Sometimes animal photography. Images in low light and portrait are extraordinary (55mm/1.8 Zeiss). The slow and sometimes unprecise autofocus in low light is the weekest point of this camera and make it not so suitable for fast moving animal photography. The shutter button is much too unprecise and the dials on the top of the camera feel plastic and cheap. Overall, I have great fun with this impressive camera and would recommend it for selected use.

Love this Camera!
I had narrowed my camera search down to the c100Mk2 (based on how much I like the c100) and this a7s. The more research I did, the more I leaned to this camera. As a low-budget narrative director/cinematographer, I have a huge appreciate for fast cameras. Not only is this the fastest camera I've ever seen, the image quality is fantastic.I think the c100 beats this camera in terms of ergonomics, and also internal ND filters; however, not in image q... extremely powerful camera
Very happy with my A7s. I own both the A7 and A7r and they both have their limitations and uses. The A7s is a very flexible camera that is able to capture some great images with outstanding dynamic range.

Sony A7S is a beautiful Camera
I recently upgraded to the Sony A7s from a canon 60D. I loved the 60D like a son and found it hard to part with it after all these years. Lately I've been getting more and more DOP work and it was time to upgrade. The A7s is a powerhouse of a camera built into a small and compact body. Before I get into the video functions which I mostly use this camera for I also have to say that I love the way it feels for photography. After taking a picture us... Show More

Great camera for video
This is a great camera for narrative work. It is incredibly versatile with its ability to switch between full frame and super35 sensor readout, E-mount can be adapted to pretty much everything, and the dynamic range is second only to an Alexa or Amira. It makes a great B cam for bigger budgeted projects and an amazing A cam for lower budgets. The rolling shutter is a bit more prevalent than I expected, but its easy to shoot around. The batteries are not the longest lifed, so I would recommend buying extras or an external battery. If you are going to shoot S-Log2 outside, high NDs are needed.

Almost perfect
I decided to try and give a full Sony lineup a shot. I got rid of my mark 2 and canon lenses and switched to the a7s and Sony lenses. I came to hate the Sony lenses so I got the metabones mark 4 smart adapter and bought canon lenses again and the results couldn't be better!I haven't had an issue filming with the adapter. It's only when I try and use a flash for photo that the adapter stops working correctly. But I just take it off and put it on a... Show More

Sony a7S The everything Full Frame
I shoot landscapes, portraits, abandoned buildings and I shoot by day and now I shoot by night. A7s opened up a whole new way to be creative. Before I really had to plan my shoots, time of day, locations etc, now I drive and just shoot when ever I see something great.Everything the Sony has designed in this camera is great, does it need improvement? Yes it has it's quirks, but so does Canon, Nikon and the rest. But none of it are show stoppers. T... Show More

Almost the perfect camera.....almost
For MY NEEDS, this is almost... ALMOST the perfect camera. Anyone who has been considering this camera probably already knows what it can do and is familiar with it's features. I know I was - until I purchased it. It's an amazing camera however, there are some features this camera doesn't have that other cameras have and vice versa. 1. I wish it would bracket 7 exposures instead of just 5 2. I wish it would auto bracket with a 02:sec timer delay ... Show More

Great for video, good for stills
The best thing out there for low light, the Sony A7s is very good for video with a lot of pro-camcorders features like peaking, zebras and audio levels. Great Slog2 capability. Its 12mp is not amazing for stills, but there is a huge dynamic range and beautiful colors in the RAW files. Great camera overall!

greatest cam I have ever owned
I am a film maker who was tired of having to a settle for a shallow depth of field while in low light situations. the Sony A7s solved this problem for me,You can shoot 4k video and shoot at ISO speeds up into the 50,000's and still have great looking video. It is new so there are not many lenses (which are expense) but you can circumvent that by buying a lens adapter ring like I did so I can use my dads old F series Nikon lenses

So far so excited
I just purchased the sony A7s as a video production and photography camera. I can tell you already from only spending about 48 hrs with it and just toggling through the menus and the settings that this is a very powerful and compact camera. As far as video goes it has tons of great abilities including lowlight, 60fps @ 1080p, zebras, focus peaking, evf and more. Things that aren't so great about it are the size can actually be too small and cumbe... Show More

SONY A7s Videographer's review
i've been using two of these cameras for 2 months in professional situations. I shoot photos, but am primarily a videographer--run and gun and studio situations.one camera works awesome--a dream come true. the other one had problems out of the box. Focus magnifier goes crazy all the time, HDMI firmware was all funky--would only put out a few frame rates under only a few conditions. also the sensor that switches between monitor and view finder cou... Finally a body for my Leica glass
Though I'm not a professional shooter, I have been snapping away for 50 years. I had a long love affair with Nikon that ended 9 years ago when I discovered Leica. I moved back to film and proceeded to develop and scan my BW film. I was in heaven. Then my dedicated film scanner (KonicaMinolta 5400 II) died and I replaced it with an Epson 700. It was okay but not the same quality. And I missed the flexibility of digital as well as the post processin... Show More

Situationally perfect
There are a lot of things to like about this camera. It does video beautifully, and the S-LOG 2 flat profile is quite useful. The first time I took a picture in complete darkness, I was amazed at how well it picks up even tiny amounts of light -- even compared to the 5D3. I found the EVF to be quite fast in comparison to others, and the technology is definitely getting better -- although it's still not perfect. For low-light situations and video,... Show More

The next level
I got and use this camera mostly for it's video functions. Coming from Canon DSLR setup, this was a significant upgrade. Comparing HD footage from the A7S and 5DMIII is just completely different, the Sony footage is ALLOT sharper. Coupled with good control of the S Log2 (PP7) profile, you are really given allot more dynamic range. The colour-grading ability is also much higher. Although it does not record 4K internally (and not externally in a us... Show More

All Hail the ISO king
Got this camera a week ago at B & H and had a couple of quick tests, it took my breath away, such crisp clear image up to almost 20.000 ISO and I can dare to say more, the noise isnt as bad as you might think. This is a camera made mostl y for video purposes obviously because at pictures the MK III from canon blows it away, the S-log 2 is so awesome, too bad you need to be at 3200 ISO in order to use it but nothing a good ND filter cant fix! Battery life is a meh, you need at least a couple of them but hey, it's not so bad just turn off wifi.
