Great hardware, Terrible GEO-Zone Software
I had high hopes for this but it is not working for my needs. Good camera upgrade, but...
For my purposes, I was mostly ok with Mavic 1 as a flying machine. The biggest thing that bothered me about it was the camera with its fixed aperture and all the artifacts and other problems that were contained in the video footage. Worth the Wait!
I'm a long time DJI Phantom flier/user/owner. Started out with version 2.0 and now own two 4Pros. I upgraded to the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom from a Phantom Advanced 3. I love all of the smart flying features this drone gives along with the lossless 2x zoom. Manual Will Not Tell You How to Operate It
I have not yet flown my Mavic 2 Pro with Smart Controller, but I have a few hundred hours flying other DJI products commercially. From this experience I realized it's a good idea to try and and review the manual for the controller and aircraft, either before the first flight or just after you fly it the first few times. To zoom or not to zoom, that is the question.
I struggled for a while between the M2 Zoom and the M2 Pro. I am a Part 107 pilot and do aerial work for money. Ultimately, it came down to the ability to zoom that won me over to the M2 Zoom. Simplified my arial photography
I needed to repair my Inspire Pro but the cost of repairing it was almost as much as buying a new Mavic 2 Pro. I made my final decision based on the quality of the camera on the Mavic 2 Pro. I have a Phantom 3 pro I loved it but I bought a Yuneec typhoon H+ was not a fan it died 35 seconds into flight over water needless to say I went back to DJI this Mavic 2 Pro is amazing the controller is great since you don't need to use your phone. Crash on second flight. Not a very happy camper.
The thread in the Mavic Pilot forum is a complete dissection of my experience with this new drone. Had it two days and two spontaneous crashes. Looks like the right rear motor failed yet recovered. I would be very cautions about using it over people until this error is researched. I would love to give it a better review. It is in the hands of DJI now. Better than I expected
I got my Mavic 2 Pro yesterday and have just played with it briefly. But my very good experience started with unpacking it. The build quality of of the Mavic 2 Pro is fantastic. NO mapping or 3D modeling apps for Smart Controller
First, the drone itself is great. But this review is primarily to let others know that as of June 2019 there are NO apps for mapping or 3D modeling that will work on the Smart Controller. Even DJI's software, DJI GS Pro will not work with the Smart Controller! Moving up from the Mavic 1 Pro to the Mavic 2 Pro was absolutely worth it. I used to have ridiculous camera seizures with the mavic 1 and now I no longer have that issue. It's only been a short time, but I'm very impressed.
I guess I would say I'm way behind the times when it comes to drones. I'm a LILY investor. I finally got over that sting to purchase drone.
