Finally a silent FF...

Nov 27, 2015

If you are a videographer, do not bother to read this review. I would gladly exchange most of top video features on this model for the phase detection AF. Silent mode was my main reason for choosing this model. I do a lot of pictures in quiet indoors environment. Virtually no video. So I cannot comment on that feature. Comparing the prices of other A7 models, perhaps I overpaid for unneeded top video features just to get the silent FF camera. No ... Show More

A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing!

Jul 26, 2014

This camera is a raging BEAST! Sony took a 747 jet engine (12mp monster sensor) and installed it into a small Toyota Corolla body! It's such an odd and ironic match up.The camera does not look impressive on the outside. However, once you browse into the configuration setup and see all the incredible features Sony placed there,..you will be extremely impressed. The low light performance is second to none. It truly is remarkable and that is certainl... Show More

The next level

Oct 22, 2014

I got and use this camera mostly for it's video functions. Coming from Canon DSLR setup, this was a significant upgrade. Comparing HD footage from the A7S and 5DMIII is just completely different, the Sony footage is ALLOT sharper. Coupled with good control of the S Log2 (PP7) profile, you are really given allot more dynamic range. The colour-grading ability is also much higher. Great Camera Period

Jul 8, 2014

I love the Sony A7s. I own an M9 as well as an OMD-EM1. I only shoot still photography so if you are looking for a video review, please look elsewhere. The A7s has LOADS going for it over these two cameras. Here are a few of those things:1. Low light abilities - The Sony A7s has an amazing ability to focus in pitch blackness, even without the AF assist light. You will never be in a situation where the A7s cannot focus. How cool is that! Simply Incredible

This camera will blow your socks off. Yeah yeah yeah the whole 12 megapixels thing. Understandably photographers may turn the other cheek, but for me as a filmmaker this camera is REVOLUTIONARY. Shooting in pitch dark with little to NO NOISE. NeatVideo plugin works fantastic with any footage that might have a little noise. But at 56,000 iso this camera flourishes. Picture profiles for days. SLOG 2 and cine gammas. The functionality is superb. Bei... Show More

Good, But Not Perfect

Feb 5, 2017

I've had this camera now for five weeks and continue to get better at using it. Like many DSLR cameras, it is not the perfect camera and it is a trade off between what's good and what's not. To keep this short, I'm simply going to list the pros and cons. PROS Very lightweight and small for the features it has. Does the trick

Nov 3, 2015

I don't even know where to start. This is the best all-around camera I've ever owned. I shoot professional video and photography for a large corporation and freelance travel videos. The multi-interface shoe mount is a stellar invention. The XLR-KM2 is a wonderful add for run-and-gun style shooting. The high ISO is remarkable, and shoots fantastic images with film-like grain patterns into the tens of thousands before I notice a huge degradation. T... Show More

Excellent camera!

Im not professional and not too advanced user but have Canon t2i and 70d with multiple lenses (Canon, Samyang, Tamron and Sigma), the preferred ones are Canon 24-70 f2.8 II and 70-200 f2.8 II that I used widely for nature and family photos and videos, but low light footage was still noisy. I was hesitating between 6d and a7s primarily, but decided to try Sony. Now with a7s I can take photo and video till ISO 12800 or 25600 almost without noise. I... Show More

A7s is it is a keeper

Aug 8, 2014

So far I am really impressed with this tiny camera. It will mix with my FS700 and C100 very well, and it probably spells the end of using my 5DmkII for video, I will keep it and my 7D for stills though. I am working on a sensible kit for it. I have the remote and it works well. I really like the EVF, so the trick is to make a kit that takes advantage of the EVF and still can house the O7Q or the Shogun (on order), I have also heard rumors of much... Show More

I shoot landscapes, portraits, abandoned buildings and I shoot by day and now I shoot by night. A7s opened up a whole new way to be creative. Before I really had to plan my shoots, time of day, locations etc, now I drive and just shoot when ever I see something great.Everything the Sony has designed in this camera is great, does it need improvement? Yes it has it's quirks, but so does Canon, Nikon and the rest. But none of it are show stoppers. T... Show More

My focus is video not stills...My Sony A7s arrived this morning. I've not put it down in 8 hours. I've been a Sony fan since the early 80's. I have used Sony broadcast products extensively and they never let me down. I remember when they moved into the very first digital ENG cameras, they were fantastic... of course old schoolers still whined about going digital but, whatever.I've been using the Canon 5dMkII, 60D, 7D since mid 2008. Best Camera I've Owned

Jan 31, 2015

Right off the bat this is by far the best camera I've used. Yes it has its faults - but at the time of writing this review I strongly believe it is the camera to beat! I own the GH4 and a range of Canon DSLRs and simply nothing can beat the A7s. I use it predominantly for behind the scenes shooting in news studios and the low light is amazing! I recently upgraded to the Sony A7s from a canon 60D. I loved the 60D like a son and found it hard to part with it after all these years. Lately I've been getting more and more DOP work and it was time to upgrade. The A7s is a powerhouse of a camera built into a small and compact body. Before I get into the video functions which I mostly use this camera for I also have to say that I love the way it feels for photography. After taking a picture us... Show More

This is the camera I've waited more than 45 years for. It has no equal for low light use. Easily usable to ISO 64000 and decent even beyond. The silent shutter option is also a big plus. Why sony hasn't introduced this before seems to be more about their fear that you might sneak a shot without the whole world being able to hear the shutter than for any technical reason.
