Great Images, Great Value, Some Handling Qualms

Apr 11, 2018

I am an experienced SLR shooter and this is my first mirrorless camera. I used this camera extensively on a week of travel. I was hesitant to leave my dSLR at home, but this camera has completely sold me on mirrorless. It proved to be an exceptionally good shooter. For my shooting style, however, I found that the handling leaves much to be desired. The camera itself is extremely compact. The lens is quite sizable "deployed," but it features a ne... Show More

1st mirrorless camera does not disappoint....

Jan 7, 2019

I have been wanting to go mirrorless for awhile now. Until recently I have been lugging around an older Canon 7D with a variety of lenses, The canon was OK for planned shoots, but much more of a burden to carry for just casual shooting during family outings and general photography. Most people swear by the phone camera these days as being good enough. I am not part of that camp. While I feel my iPhone 6s is fine for photos in the daylight, for t... Show More

Great camera, great price

Apr 18, 2018

am not a professional photographer. I have been simply a photography enthusiast for many years. Recently I made the decision to buy an accessible but mostly small camera, to replace my canon. I am very pleased to have made the leap to 4/3 without a mirror. I bought the GX85 with the additional 45-150 mm and 25 mm. Its body is metallic although for the most part it is lined by a rough material similar to the skin and quite pleasant. The handle is ... Show More

Great little still camera. Not a video camera.

Dec 30, 2019

For an old school photographer, this camera is not very intuitive. Prepare for a learning curve unless you're well-versed in current digital cameras and Panasonic cameras in particular. Sure, you can take a fully-automated decent photo straight out of the box, but figuring out manual operation took some work. For example, if you want to use your vintage primes with a Metabones adapter, you have to choose a mysterious setting called Shoot w/o lens... Show More

A great carry around complement to my G85

Apr 15, 2019

I already own a Panasonic G85, which I really enjoy, but was looking to get a second camera that was easier to carry with me when I was just out walking. I seriously considered the LX100 because of the bright Leica lens but decided on the GX85 because I could use my existing lenses and because the operation would be familiar. The GX85 much more compact than I expected from comparing the specs. It easily fits in a large jacket pocket with the kit... Show More

Dec 17, 2016

I'm a Canon DSLR (7D and 6D) user and wanted something more compact with 4k. I was hesitant because of the lack of Cinelike D and V, or vLog, but the heavy customization this camera allows almost fully compensates - I can easily get a picture style as flat as the Cinelike profiles (even flatter than the Technicolor Cineform profile in the Canon cameras). The 12-32 is very compact, but the optics are so-so and can't fully take advantage of the cam... Show More

A LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP

Jan 2, 2017

I'm a retired professional photographer/videographer, now contending with onset arthritis so I had to let go of my full size, heavy-as-heck DSLRs. Crossing over to the smaller micro four thirds format, I first tried the GH2 and then moved up to the GX8 some six months ago. Then the GX85 came out at $100 less than MSRP, bundled with two lenses and a $150 B&H Gift Card! Interesting though the bundle was, I was attracted to the GX85 mainly because I... Show More

Best Bang for the Buck

May 3, 2018

After using a LX100 for 3 years, it was time for an upgrade. And the GX85 has the upgrades I was seeking. Interchangeable lens (no more dust spots), touch screen, post focus, higher resolution, and the amazing 5 axis IBIS with Dual IS. I was amazed at what the new Stabilization can do. Normally with a DSLR panning while bursting using the optical stabilization, the subject jerks all over the frame making it impossible to get consistent composed i... Show More

Excellent For Everyday Use!

I am a commercial lifestyle photographer and was gifted this camera in return for an honest review. This camera has great features. The top 3 feature for me are the wifi capabilities, the 4k burst mode feature, and the controls layout. As a photographer I tend to document my life daily via instagram and the camera's wifi feature allows me to download high quality images straight to my phone. From there I am able to edit and post directly to my fe... Show More

GX85 REVIEW I have been using this in Mexico for 3 weeks as a travel camera and have a good idea how well it works. I compare it to my Panasonic FZ 1000 mega zoom, a much bigger camera that I have used for 2 years. Picture and Video ( 1080 p ) quality both cameras are very good. GX 85 seems to have slightly better dynamic range, but is not as good on low light video due to the slower kit lens, which of course has a very low zoom range. Seems go... Show More

Another Great Lumix in My Inventory

Nov 14, 2019

I have been a fan of Lumix cameras since my first GH3. I purchased the the GX85 to complement my GH5 as a dedicated camera for capturing time lapse footage on a motorized slider. Of course with the GX85 I can use any of my MFT lenses as well as other Canon lenses adapted with a Metabones Speedbooster. As a bicycle tourist the GX85 will also take the place of my larger Lumix cameras to save critical weight as well as storage space on extended ad... Show More

Great Camera

Jul 11, 2016

I'm very impressed with the Panasonic GX85. I also use a Panasonic GH4, Samsung NX1, Sony A7Sii and RX10ii. I shoot mostly video but also stills. I purchased a US version to get 4K 30p rather than the PAL version, I do wish Panasonic would make all their cameras PAL/NTSC switchable like Sony do. The GX85 has to be the best camera I've ever used, here are my comments - The IBIS is superb, best from any camera I've filmed with. The 4K video is supe... Show More

Great Little Camera

Jun 2, 2016

I bought this when B&H had their initial allotment on sale and this is a first impression review, and I am mightily impressed. If you are thinking about buying this camera based on early reviews, you may wondering, Is this camera as good as it looks? My answer is yes. And no one's paying me to say this. First impression out of the box is that it's heavier than I expected, an indication of quality. The camera is solid, feels very well built and it... Show More

Great, portable camera

Jul 31, 2016

First, some context: I am an amateur, hobby photographer who received this camera for free in exchange for an honest review. I have been using the kit lens exclusively. Before receiving this camera, my primary-use camera was another mirrorless, and I have not shot regularly with any dSLRs. Overall, my experience with the GX-85 has been great. Image quality is great, and I have been particularly impressed by its performance in the lower-light situ... Show More

Amazing deal at $497.00 for 4K video and nice stills

Dec 9, 2018

I bought this as a B camera for video because it went on sale. The in body stabilization and 4k video capability combined with the interchangeable lenses is amazing for the $500 range. Nice to have a touch screen for focus and menu navigation. Not great in low light. Cant focus manually easily with the kit lens (no focus ring on it). Kit lens is surprisingly sharp. Pretty good autofocus. Not sure how useful the longer lens will be for me. Takes ... Show More

Fantastic little camera

Apr 6, 2017

I really love this little camera, especially for the price! It looks a bit like a point and shoot, but don't let looks fool you! I got this with the kit lens (but only because they didn't have the black silver version without lens) and I was actually pleasantly surprised by the quality of the kit lens as well. The lens does not do super well in low light/ high ISO situations, but other than that it is surprisingly sharp for what it is. This camer... Show More

Quite disapointed with this camera package (even at the discount price). First the good: *Takes nice RAW photos (still like my DSLR better). *Image stabilization works very well with stills, OK for video. *Shoots nice 4K video. The bad: *Kit lenses a hassle (too much swapping). I would need to invest close to$1700 for lenses that would eliminate this (14-140 and 8-18). The included 45-150 will not focus closer than 3' (seems eve... Show More

Great size and features for micro 4/3

Aug 6, 2016

I've been a long time Canon DSLR user, which I had been happy with, minus the size. I've been dabbling in micro 4/3 for about a year now, trying out a number of Olympus and Panasonic models. From all that I've tested, I think this one has the best combination of features and size that exists in micro 4/3. For the longest time the 5 axis image stabilization of the Olympus cameras was a big selling point over Panasonic. This is now no longer the ca... Show More

As a long time micro 4/3 user I find this camera to pretty much hit the sweet spot. Sure there are cameras with larger sensors and better image quality, but the image quality is pretty darn good and I have never had anyone say by golly you didn't take that picture with a full-frame camera. Bottomline image quality is very good. The camera is loaded with features like 4K burst. Before buying I thought this was gimmicky, but in practice it works ve... Show More

Nice pocket camera

Apr 16, 2017

I bought the GX85 body from B&H and the 30mm prime. Had the 14-140 zoom. I believe this is the perfect lens combo for 99% of all shooting scenarios. Optical stabilization works well. My first touch focus and my first M43. To be honest, the auto focus is so good it renders the touch focus almost unnecessary. The M43 lenses are so light and compact yet generate top notch results. the fact that this camera comes with 2 lens for just 500, is amazing, the camera is basically a Lumix G7 just smaller and with sensor stabilisation, which is great, 4k 30fps 100mbps, can record unlimited video, and the low light capabilities are actually better than some APS canons.... nice addition to my micro 4/3 lineup

The GX85 has a lot of nice features, even some which my GX8 doesn't have. I like the new sensor I.S. which seems to work quite well, and in connection with the lens I.S. allows for hand held shots even at low light without cranking up the ISO and increase the noise. The size and weight is comparable to the GX1 which it is replacing in my lineup. The lens is very compact and of good quality. In the collapsed state it's not larger than the 20mm pan... Show More

I have only had this now for a few weeks but so far have to say, disappointed in it. Compared to such likes of Canon where you can literally pick it up and get the controls down quickly, this thing requires lots of time and manuals, videos on how to do anything on it. The autofocus is lacking big time in mine maybe I got a bad camera but when I have anything on autofocus in the viewfinder the camera gives no effort in doing it at all. Most camera... Show More
