This thing is awesome
I have very little to complain about with this camera. For the price, it has lived past my expectations, especially when it got sand in the lens!!! The short story is that I took this overseas as my only camera when my mom passed away. I had lots to do and I wanted to document everything. For the price, the size and the flexibility, I wish I had purchased a second one! My favorite is the zoom and image stabilization. Check out my pic!

Nice camera for stills...
I like the camera for stills. The zoom works fine. The action shots are not clear. Tried different settings and the camera does not take a clear picture if the subject is moving.

Fun for travel
I've owned many cameras of all types but this works do well, it is my favorite yet. Pros: Zoom stays sharp even at 30x. Image stabilizer is fantastic. I have shaky hands and I have no trouble shooting at 30x, 1/8 second. Scene modes really work. Sunset, nightime and hdr all work great. Battery life is fine. Cons: I cannot connect camera wirelessly to the router but easily connects to my Android phone. The control wheel is touchy.

Lots of useful features but body inferior to ZS3
I upgraded from my 10 year old ZS3 which still works. The ZS3 has a more solid feel, more metal than the ZS50. My main reason for upgrading was I need a quick & easy way to transfer my pictures from the camera to my smart phone without using a computer. The ZS3 does not have WiFi capability. Black Monitor
In August I had a problem with a black monitor which I also had with a previous camera (same model). It has not been solved. In September, I could not use the viewfinder but have since solved the problem. The viewfinder is the main reason why I bought this camera.

Very efficient camera
Has a great zoom capability. Not the most compact camera in the world but the fact that it has a fully retractable lens and a view finder make it a very easy to use camera. A step above the normal pocket camera.

Great little camera
Dont expect APS- C or four thirds results from this tiny sensor, but its pretty darn good.And shirt pocket size. Any picture is better than no picture at all.

Great travel camera
Zoom lens goes from 40mm to 700mm which is great for traveling without having to take a bag of lenses. Camera is small enough to fit in pouch that attaches to your belt.

Great camera and value as a kit
I picked up two of these kits for my daughters. We plan to go to Europe soon and I wanted to make sure they have a lightweight, good quality, easy to use point and shoot with a wide range of focal lengths and image stabilization. Great point and shoot - terrible software
So far camera takes great pictures. Love the big zoom. Lots of features that are helpful and not obvious until you read the manual. On P with auto ISO it does not provide high ISO and fast enough shutter in low light, so use S. The knob for moving the aperture/shutter is handy. The software, how is very poor. No useful editing features, not even cropping!! Also a complicated and useless (to me) categorizing of all the pictures on your computer. My Nikon software works to get pics from this camera, so I will use it.

All good.
The camera is performing well to date. Would recommend it as a cheaper option than purchasing the newer camera. Our old Lumix camera, 3-4years old , which this one replaced, got sand in the lens while travelling in Morocco when we were in a sand storm in the desert and the zoom stopped working.

Small Camera, Lots of Potential
This small camera produces great images. I don't know about .jpeg because I almost never shoot in that format but the raw files it produces are pretty good for such a small sensor. With that being said, this is no Sony A7/S/R so don't expect crazy low light performance. However paired with the right optically triggered flash it will still do alright.

This is an outstanding camera. With intelligent automatic, it automatically adjusts the settings. There are several modes you can select or create a custom mode. Great point-and-shoot camera with fabulous zoom capability.
Bought this camera to carry with me on bike rides, as it's not feasible to lug my large Canon 50D along. Great resolution with the factory-install Leica lens, special effects capability and fabulous 30x zoom. Very satisfied I bought it.

I am loving this camera!
I read and reviewed a number of cameras before deciding on the ZS50. Once I narrowed down what I wanted out of a camera I kept on coming back to the ZS50. I have had the camera for about 3 weeks and in that time I have taken it on vacation to Colorado. The camera is lightweight, easy to hold and to use. I have not found anything negative with the camera. My intended use for the camera is pictures of family time and vacations.

Compact camera full of useful tools
I wasn't expecting much when I got this camera but I have been pleasantly surprised. Just yesterday I took this camera to Brooklyn and since I had time on my hands, I decided to take it out for a spin. Depending on the mode, the lens dial, coupled with the back dial, make changing settings quick and easy (after a bit of getting used to). Takes decent videos too, can't complain!

Very good camera with extreme zoom lens.
This camera has a lot of features for the money. The lens is sharp. Camera has only a 12 megapixels. A lot of today's cameras are in the 20 range. The trade off that this camera offers a high quality, extreme zoom lens . The camera is a little bit on the heavy side, but them again, I think that is because Panasonic put a lot into this camera.

Very nice when it works
I have gotten great images and video from this camera - mostly surfing shots, birds in flight, and flowers. Why only 3 stars? Because after only 10 months, it is starting to fail. There is some sort of short circuit so that moving the zoom lever activates the video instead. Previously, the diaphragm-type lens cover was balky when opening. It's still under warranty but Panasonic service is less than useless - just try contacting anyone to find out how to proceed. I'll give this camera to the kids to play with.

Very Happy
I was looking for a compact camera that offered a great optical zoom feature. Nature shots in the wild generally require zoom. I found this in the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50, where you have 30X in a camera you can literally put in your pocket. The best point-and-shoot camera
This is my second purchase of the DMC-ZS50. I use it primarily for photographing birds at a medium distance, and I wanted to get another camera while it was still available. My favorite features are the viewfinder and the Through Glass scene setting. Even though it is small enough to be carried in a pocket, I recommend keeping it in a carrying case when it is not in your hand.
