Great performing compact tele lens
I bought this lens for an Olympus PEN E-PL2 and I'm very pleased with the performance so far. It's a perfect complement to the 14-42 kit lens for travel, giving me wide angle to long telephoto in a very small, light kit. When zoomed to 150mm it can be hard to use the focus zoom due to extreme magnification of the movement, but the image stabilizer does a remarkable job handling shake at this focal length. The E-PL2 also can hunt a bit at the long... Show More

The Lens I thought I didn't want
I've enjoyed using my OMD EM-10 for several months and have used some very high quality lenses from Olympus: 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro, 75mm f/1.8, 25mm f/1.8. I also have Oly's long telephoto zoom: 75-300mm which has some limitations but on the whole is a very nice lens. I passed over the Oly 40-150mm as a cheap bargain basement lens. One of the real advantages of the Micro Four Thirds system is the compact size of the cameras and lenses. However, the ... Show More

This is the telephoto nifty fifty of MFT lenses
Everyone knows about the famous Canon nifty fifty 50mm f/1.8 lens family: an absurdly cheap prime lens with great performance that every Canon shooter should buy to supplement the kit lens. After two days of shooting with this lens, I firmly believe that this is the perfect second lens for cheaply but very effectively enhancing the capabilities of your MFT camera. The only compromise Olympus made is the lack of image stabilization. I have a Panas... Show More

Surprised and amazed
I've been waiting and hoping to get the 40-150/2.8 Pro M.Zuiko --it's obviously the best-- but my financial situation has been such that I finally had to admit that it wasn't going to be possible. So when I saw this on sale, I decided to get it instead of my dream lens. Last night I took it to a holiday concert with typical elementary school gymnasium lighting --garish gymnasium lights with no stage lighting-- and shot handheld with my OMD EM2, a... Show More

Does what the numbers say
When I first took it out of the box I thought it was fake. This lens is very light and plasticy-feeling. Had to stare at the Oly logo for a while to get the confidence and attach it to my EPL5. But it works! I got into micro 4/3ds because full DSLR is just too bulky for me, it would always stay at home.. M43 format offers me the best quality/compactness ratio for me. And that's why I disregard the plasticy-feel of the lens and like it for it's pe... Show More

Exceptional Value
After years of shooting Canon APS-c, six months ago I purchased an Olympus E-M1 with the Oly 12-40 f2.8 PRO. That lens is really impressive. I love it.I wanted a longer lens and have been tempted to go for the 40-150 PRO, but the cost, size and weight have given me pause. I've wondered just how good (or bad) the really inexpensive Oly 40-150 f 4-5.6R is. It has always been really inexpensive, but recently, Oly has slashed the price in half to onl... Show More

Great Budget Lens For Your 4/3 kit
Our studio is just beginning and we really needed to add some focal length to our 4/3 kit, but a real affordable price. Our review process led us to this lens. We knew Olympus makes great lenses but for this price point we wasn't for sure it could be that good. To our delight the positive reviews are spot on. This lens packs a punch for this price point. We have paired it with the Panasonic G7 and the 40-150mm (80-300mm equivalent) makes a good p... Show More

M.Zuiko ED 40-150 lens flimsy, but sharp
I bought this lens for my OMD because I was attracted to the light weight and relatively low price. As many are coming to recognize, the OMD is a true prosumer camera capable of delivering results almost equivalent to full frame camera's. Panasonic G Lumix lenses, most made in Japan, recognize this evolution, with their excellent build and high quality. Olympus lenses are only beginning to catch up. The 40-150 lens is a case in point. It is made ... Show More

Light, sharp, solid
This lens fills in the spot between my Panasonic 12-32mm kit lens and the Olympus 75-300mm long tele zoom I purchased last month. On the Panasonic GM1 there is no image stabilization, but I am finding the lack of mirror slap and with electronic shutter, I still consistently get sharp handheld photos at moderate shutter speeds. In this case at shutter speeds of 1/30th second at the 40mm end and of 1/100th of a second at the 150mm end. You can get ... Show More

Good Lens, Especially for the price
In my limited use so far, I have been pleased with the quality of photos I can get with this lens. I bought it for general telephoto use outdoors. For an 80-300 equivalent lens, it is nice and compact. It has all plastic construction, but that doesn't bother me at all, since it helps the lens stay light and cheap. The M43 system seems to be flush with nice, compact, prime lenses, but has much fewer options when it comes to the telephoto side of t... Show More

A great deal for the money
This lens is a great deal for the money. Pretty sharp - leightweight - Build qualit is good - again this is not a Pro lens - but it is hard to beat for the price - I got this lens at B&H when I bought my OMD 5 and as a combo I got it for $ - beat that - now it is a super zoom lens so not an allaround walk about lens - then you need to get the Panasonic 14-140mm - but if you already have the kit lens 12-50 or the 14-42 and would like to get that e... Very nice lens
This was my first telephoto lens, and I wasn't too sure about what to expect. The first thing that struck me was how small it is. At it's shortest length, it is only about the thickness of the lens cap longer than the kit 14-42 lens when it's extended. It is also the same size in diameter. This lens is very lightweight, by feel the same as the kit lens, but does not feel cheap like the kit lens does. My kit lens has spots where it will creak if y... Show More

Great value for money
This lens is great for most photos that require a longer focal length than the standard zoom lenses. This would include portraits, candids at parties and weddings, reasonably close sports shots, larger wild animals. For smaller wildlife, birds etc, and sports at greater distances (e.g. cricket) one needs a much longer focal length. The images are sharp enough for my Olympus OM D E-M5 body with its excellent sensor and IS. The autofocus is very ra... Show More

Good Lens
The sharpness for this lens is awesome, the fact that are plastic it's not a downside for me since they are really lightweight. I've been lastly using prime lens so that is kind of a point when you are going to F/4 from 1.7 or 2.8 so I can see a clear difference however they work fine for must scenarios. If you are planning to photograph birds I don't think this lens will be your best choice, as for the shots of birds that I made I felt that I wa... Show More

The lens fully meets expectations
Excellent light weight lens that reaches all the way to 300 mm EFL in light and small package. The construction, despite being all plastic, including the mount, is sturdy and the fact that the lens barrel is single cam only, inspires even more confidence. Optically the lens is just fine in good light. Shooting handheld requires practice as the 300 mm EFL is quite long even for EM-1 rather strong IBIS. Few small gotchas: 1. Sometimes my camera wou... Good Value
I bought this lens with a great discount that B&H was running on it. I don't think I would try it at the full list price as I had my sights set on the tiny Panasonic 35-100. I'm happy I got it. The lens is quite small and light and gives decent picture quality both at the short and the long end. My Olympus body doesn't have a viewfinder and as I learned with this lens the lacking added stability when you bring the camera up to your eye to take a ... Show More

Good Enough
This lens perfectly demonstrates the difference between Olympus' pro-sumer and PRO line of lenses. I have a few of both. The 40-150 (80-300 as a 35mm equivalent) is a good range for distance shooting. The auto focus is quick and the lens is easy to control. For the price I was impressed with the distance clarity. It is not a particularly bright lens - but again, this is the difference of pricing. The lens is extremely light weight - which is nice... Show More

Great for the price
I tend to rate items in relation to their cost. It would be silly to expect this lens to be in the same category as one 10 times the price; yet no professional lens is 10 times the value of a good albeit slower lens such as this. By that measure, I may rank a consumer lens higher than a professional lens simply because of value. Others may simply rank by quality, indifferent to cost. I think cost/utility a better way to rank, in that one would us... Show More

Perfect For Starting Collection
After buying a new MFT system I needed a telephoto lens. This was a winner for the price.Good zoom range and descently sharp photos for cheap. AF is a bit sluggish but is not poor and still works fine. In good light it focuses well but not at super-speeds. Performance in AF drops with the amount of available light but that is no surprise. I can't figure out how to MF with this lens. Maybe I'm missing something? Chromatic aberration is noticeable ... Show More

This is a sharp lens. I've had it now for about two weeks. I've used it to shoot farmers markets and some walkabouts around Helena. I've been very happy with the image quality. Lens construction seems ok. I'll know more when I take it out into the cold Montana winters. The 12-50 M.Zuiko seems to have a little more heft or solidness as it has splash and dust resistant. Decent lens
I bought this lens to compliment the 12- 50mm for my EM-5. I guess one reasonable question is whether or not one would be better off with buying only the camera body and then the more pricey 12 to 150(?)mm. One reason not to is that lens is not weather proof and the 12-50mm is. Since that is one of the big reasons I bought this camera over a few others I'd been considering, I'm willing to deal with two lenses. The lens seems at least as good optic... Show More

This lens is super nice. Not only does it have great IQ, but it is lighter than the 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro lens on my Olympus OM-D 5 II. I mainly use it in daylight so the f/4 is more than adequate. I find myself shooting more around mid range anyway. This may seem like a bargain basement lens due to the sort of plastic build, but the glass is amazing. I use mainly a Nikon D750 and pro lenses. I've only used the lens a brief time, but have been quite impressed. I used it for a few low light portraits of children and got results much better than I anticipated considering the low cost of this lens. It has a great focal range for informal portraiture that I think would work nicely for studio portraiture also.
