Great versatile lens!

May 25, 2019

Im slowly making the move from Nikon to Sony and had Nikons version of this lens. I used it only when I had to because it just wasnt ever tack sharp. After putting the Sony 24-70 through its paces the last several days, Im actually excited to be able to use this focal length again because this lens is super sharp, rivaling my sharpest prime lenses (Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art and Nikon 400mm f/2.8). I highly recommend this lens.

Fantastic images, but heavy and the button disabled for a7si

Oct 10, 2016

I shoot video and chose this lens for my new Sony a7sii. The lens produced very sharp images. Well built but a little heavy, but I'll put up with heavy for quality. I was excited about the focus button on the lens, bit was disappointed that it doesn't do anything on the a7sii. No big deal, but it would have been nice. That said, I would buy it again and I am very pleased with the sharpness. I would give it 4.5 stars.

Definitely an improvement for Sony glass

Feb 11, 2017

Having rented this a few times, I can honestly say it's a definite improvement over the f4 Sony zoom lenses, which is what I primarily use. While heavier and lacking in the OSS department, the manual zoom control is on par with Canon L making it much easier to handle and smoother in your shots. Nothing but great things to say about image quality and certainly the fact that it's full-frame compatible is a plus.

Not the perfect lens

Sep 13, 2016

Functionally the lens performed very well. Focus was quick. Lens was ver sharp throughout the frame. Big problem for me was the weight - it seemed to me to be as heavy as my Nikon 24-70- and carrying it around all day got to be an ordeal. Another problem was the balance. Putting the lens on my Sony a7R2, it was too front loaded. In sum, it defeated my purpose in going to a mirror less from my Nikon 700.

Extraordinary detail and Bokeh

Jun 10, 2016

The PEONY IS THE VERY FIRST PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN WITH THIS LENS WHICH ARRIVED RECENTLY. The photo was taken at 69 mm, f 2.8 and ISO 1,250 (not intentionally) so shutter was 1/4000 sec. The Bokeh is great and subsequent pictures confirm this as well. The darning needle was shot by stretching out and I could not use the viewfinder. Just pointed and shot: ISO 400, f 2.8 and 70 mm. Look at the background.....

Great lens. Sharp and dependable.

Jan 20, 2017

Great lens for shoots where you need some reach and a sharp image. It isn't as cool as a vintage prime, but what is? Works great with the Sony A7R II. It is heavier than the camera, but that is to be expected. If I want a lighter lens, then I will just put on the new 35mm Sony lens, which weighs nothing. The auto focus does struggle in low light, but figure I can always go manual if I need to.

Better than my Canon

Oct 16, 2017

I was previously a Canon shooter before I switched over to Sony. I had the Canon 24-70 2.8 ii and used it a lot for my general photography and wedding needs. I was hesitant about switching over to Sony until I used this lens with my Sony A9. I have no regrets now about switching over. This lens just does what it's suppose to do. Short and simple. You will love this lens on your camera.

Simply Amazing

Jan 12, 2018

This is my everyday lens. It's incredibly sharp and produces a beautiful image. The bokeh is very pleasing to the eye and makes me favor this over my Sony Zeiss 35mm 1.4. I'm hoping that Sony makes a G Master 35mm 1.4 soon so that I could add it to my 70-200 GM, 85 GM and 24-70 GM. If you're debating on getting this lens over the f4 version, don't hesitate. It's worth EVERY penny.

Its....ummmm

Jan 26, 2019

While I like what this lens can provide me with-pretty sharp versatility at several focal lengths at 2.8. I personally dont love its weight. It just feels cumbersome. Lugging this around for weddings gets tiring. Ive had camera shake when I normally wouldnt have thought so. It just goes against the mirrorless ideal for me. Im selling mine likely. Primes are sharper & lighter.

Great Lens!

Aug 22, 2016

This is a beautiful lens! Much nicer on my A7r II than the 24-70 F2.8 A - mount with an adapter, and much nice than the Sony/Zeiss 24-70 F4 lens I have been using. The auto-focus appears to be instantaneous to me! Amazing! The lens was designed for beautiful bokeh and resolution, and it aces those. It also has great color, similar to the Sony/Zeiss lenses. VERY PLEASED!!

Beyond numbers, photographs!

Apr 21, 2016

I will leave the beautiful science of this lens to others. What I love about this lens is the creative license it gives to the user. Sure it is a big and on the heavy side but that is all out stripped by creative flexibility of this lens and final resulting superb photographs. This is an extraordinary lens and as much as I like my primes, this zoom is pushing them aside.

Unreliable and too expensive to repair.

Aug 26, 2019

At just over a year old, with very little use the lens failed. The A7rii indicated that the lens was improperly installed or incompatible. The cost to repair... $700. A lens in this price range should be more reliable and there should be no reason for such a high cost to repair any electronic issue with the lens. Zero stars is not offered as an option so one star it is.

Perfect match with A7R2

Jul 31, 2016

I always use 24-35 and 70. Bokeh at 70/2.8 is very nice. Aperture 2.8 is enough because when you use a bigger one like F1.4 or 2, it will bring you many side effects. The only problem is distortion at 24mm. Sometimes I think I need a Batis25/2. Last, with A7R2 you have 24's angle+70's details, and 70's angle+200's details. 100% zoom in you see everything. Wonderful.

Did Not Live Up To The Hype

Nov 9, 2016

I was sad to find that after reading how great this lens was...it turned out not to live up to the hype! The image quality wasn't worth the price tag and it was far from tac sharp! Maybe my Batis 85 spoiled me (that is crazy sharp)! I returned the Sony 24-70GM and ordered the Ziess Batis 25 and Ziess Loxia 50mm (manual focus) and l am very happy with both!

My Go To

Jul 19, 2016

This lens is pretty amazing. It lives on my A7II. The colors and sharpness are delightful. It can be a bit slow to focus at times and the price is steep. My advice - if you need this lens and it will make you money then buy it. If you have money burning a hole in you pocket then buy it. If you are a casual shooter then buy the Sony Zeiss f4 lens.

Best Native Zoom Yet for Full Frame

May 4, 2016

If you have the need for fast, native focusing mid-range zoom on your Sony E mount, there is nothing better. I have posted 2 youtube reviews on it using both the A6300 and the A7rii (michaelthementor is my channel). The lens is a touch bigger and heavier than Canon 24-70 2.7 Lii, but if you are a pro shooter, this lens is a no brainer.

Great lens...but the build

Jul 10, 2018

I had this lens for under a year and the zoom ring has already worked its way completely off. There is an in town shop that said they could replace it with a metal ring but...sigh. For this kind of price I was hoping this to last much longer. Now it slips as I'm zooming and looks terrible. Image quality, of course is still amazing.

Great Lens!

Aug 14, 2016

Excellent sharpness, bokeh and fast focus on the A7RII. It took me a few weeks of using it on different jobs to really appreciate it. After shooting exclusively on Zeiss primes for a few years, I hesitated for awhile before taking the plunge. It is very expensive, but if your livelihood depends on photography, it's worth every penny.

Stellar

Sep 26, 2019

Sold the Tamron 28-75 and got this instead. No regrets. Image quality is phenomenal across the zoom range and the AF performance is flawless. Wish it was slightly sharper at 2.8, but it's definitely sharpn enough considering it keeps the quality all the way from 24mm to 70... Unlike the Tamron, that was barely useable after 35mm.

Everything except a power zoom

Jul 22, 2016

The lens is sharp and clear. Focuses instantly when you hit the focus button on an A7S II. For filming a power zoom would be nice but probably increase the weight. The 28-128mm G-Master has a power zoom which is great for video. Since the two lenses overlap a lot Sony probably decided against adding a zoom on this lens.

Most awesome lens

Oct 10, 2019

This lens focuses so much faster than any zoom lens I have used on a Canon or Nikon DSLR. It's fast. And beautiful. I am in love with this lens. I have not tried the Canon mirrorless cameras so maybe that's not fair. But I went from prime only lenses on the Canon 5D Mkiii to using this on a Sony a9 and I am very happy.

Best Lens in my Pack

Jul 28, 2017

I shoot many different kinds of videos and this lens has become my go to. Paired with my sony a7sii this lens is incredibly sharp and useful. This lens is far and away better than the ziess f4 and worth the extra money. Auto focus is good, not great, but for video I do not often shoot with autofocus anyway.

Very Sharp!

Aug 25, 2016

The photos come out very clear and sharp. The autofocus is very quick to act. Under low light, this lens lives up to what its suppose to be. It is a G master lens so it is heavier, and larger all around, so the only negative was it can way the camera forward a little bit. Zero regrets its worth every penny!

Amazing Lens

Apr 13, 2016

We are a rental company and always test our lenses when they come in. This lens was tested on a A7RII and the resolution numbers we saw were the highest we have seen on anything we rent including Nikon and Canon. Also compared to the 24-70 f/4 the build quality is a big difference. Feels very solid.
