LG GP65NG60 Portable USB External DVD Burner and Drive (Gold)
A DVD Burner Shouldn't Be This Much Trouble
I bought this burner to use with an iMac with High Sierra to burn photographs. The first one wouldn't burn anything. The replacement wouldn't burn anything either. It would play CD's, but not burn. I called LG for help. Spent almost an hour with a guy in the Phillippines who had me download software called Express Burn from an Australian website that was supposed to enable my Mac to use this burner. He couldn't figure out how to make the software... Show More

Satisfied
It was a replacement for a Blu Ray burner/reader. My iMac doesn't tell me it's there but I've used it to both install from a DVD and write to a CD. No gripes or complaints from me.

Work well
With laptops no longer including disk drives this was required for me. Was fairly inexpensive and works well.

Works great on Windows 10
I needed a newer drive since my older drive was not reliable on Windows 10. This one works great. I use it mostly for duplication/backup purposes.

Works well with my iMac
Took a little time to set up on the Mac but works fine and is much cheaper then the Apple DVD drive.

Does the job
I just bought my first laptop without an optical drive, so I needed something cheap and easy to use. This device did the trick.

Works Well, But a Bit Flimsy
I got this because my newly purchased laptop didn't include a disk media drive. I plugged it into the USB port with the included cable, and the machine immediately saw it and I was up and running. I've used it to install some software that used DVD media. I have NOT tried burning a disk with it so can't comment on that aspect. The only quibble (and the reason for knocking off a star) is that the disk tray is rather flimsy. It takes a bit of force... Show More

Compact Deal
Light weight. I was amazed at the weight of it. Works great & makes traveling much easier for me because of the sleek design. I would purchase one again without hesitation.

drive worked flawlessly, price & delivery excellent
The drive worked flawlessly in all my Linux systems, including the crankiest, Scientific Linux, an RHEL derivative. And Windows, too, of course. The price was very good too, but best of all was the shipping. DHL, which transferred to U.S. Post Office, the most convenient, safest and most private of all options, for the last leg. NOT UPS!! Yay!

Maybe not so great (***)
While it plays most videos, I have not been able to find a way to play music. Perhaps the DVD is the problem.

Compact, quick, cheap
This device is true plug-and-play. I got it since my 2019 iMac doesn't have a CD writer, and I still need one. It's much cheaper than Apple's writer, it's small, and it works with no drama.

good low-cost solution, not recommended for power user
Bought this for one of the newer iMacs that doesnt come with an internal optical drive. Seems to work fine for the casual user who needs to play a CD or DVD, or read a disc into iTunes. However I would not recommend it for a power user who does production work with a high duty cycle, because: (1) The unit is light and cheaply made. The disc tray is flimsy and you have to use two hands to prevent the drive from moving while you press the EJECT bu... Show More

works, but too much noise & vibration
Bought this for an iMac. This unit is fine for the occasional CD/DVD user, and the price was right, but be forewarned. I put the drive on a metal shelf, and found I had to put cushioning (I used bubble wrap) under it to reduce noise/vibration to an acceptable level.

Super Slow burn speed
This unit has progressively gotten slower when burning DVDs. It take 3 times longer than a Samsung drive used to burn the same file on the same windows 10 computer.

Virtually NO M-Disc Support
This drive is not compatible with any of the M-disk DVD-R media readily available (even here at B&H). Only works with DVD+RM-disc.

Plug and play with ease
I was forced to buy an external DVD drive there is none in my new laptop. Since the price was reasonable, and the LG drive is easy to use, and works well, all is well.

So far so good
Only used once though to check if it really works. It worked but loud humming noise when playing home-made DVD or CD. Music CDs work fine and does not have that loud humming.

Slim & Easy to Setup on MacOS Mojave
I used this out of the box with a 2018 Mac Mini Core i5 without the need to drivers or any third party software. The write speed for CD-Rs seems fine via USB3-A connection. It would be nice to have a USB-C version.

Noisy, but what would you expect for $25?
The CD/DVD reader/burner works well and I have no problems with it. Its noisy compared to my old one, but for $25, I didnt expect perfection.

Terrific!
Worked right out of the box on my Macbook. Fast, easy, affordable and portable. What could be better?

simple is sometimes good!
I got my LG GP65 a couple of weeks ago, and I am quite satisfied with it. I dont see where on my computer (iMac) it says it recognizes the device--but that hasnt stopped it from working just fine. My needs are simple, and so is the LG GP65. So count me a satisfied customer.

Works as it should
It is too early for me to give the kind of review as if this item has worked wonders for years. I only bought it recently and have yet to see how it keeps up on the long run. But so far it is OK. There was a bit of a problem getting to work right from the get go. I had to play with it to get it to work right. I should also say that the design is a bit bulky. There was one I bought from B and H some years back that had a slimmer more compact design and worked better overall.

Works great!
Bought this to avoid spending $80 on an Apple SuperDrive. It hooks up perfectly and plays DVDs with no problem. I ripped several audio CDs to iTunes and all went smoothly. It is built a bit flimsy, with a tray that pops out to insert the disc, but it works just fine for $30!

Exactly as described
Works with my 2011 MacBook. I bought this because my factory installed optical drive stopped recognizing disks. Just plug into USB port and play. Very satisfied. 4 stars because it's a bit flimsy. But use on a hard secure surface and no problems.
