Makes me love weekend photography again
If you are the type that likes a straight-forward, concise review, look elsewhere. Below I try to document my thought process as I compared the likes of the Olympus EM-1, EM5ii, A7ii, A6000, and Nikon D750, and why I finally settled on the EM5ii. Like most enthusiast photographers who spend any time online reading reviews, when it came time for me to upgrade my Nikon D40 from 2006, I lost track of my original goals for upgrading (more customizabi... Serious camera this is......
I'm very experienced, have been professional in the past, and I've owned several system cameras over the past 45 years, and recently made the decision to sell off my Canon DSLR system and my lenses and accessories for this Olympus system camera. Having used it for about 6 weeks, I can report that it is a very complex but capable camera. One can achieve excellent results only after having absorbed the complex menu system and optimized the programm... Show More

Terrific Camera and System
I waited about 2 months to write this review to give me real experience with the Oly EM-5 MK II. I have been a die hard Canon person. Last summer at 62 I hiked all over Glacier Intern'l Park with a 70D, 100-400L, 10=22 EFS, & 18-200 EFS. I did have the good sense to leave the 70-200 f2.8L home, but the weight of what I did bring was a killer. So before my 2 weeks in England and France this month, I decided to go Olympus light. One of the reasons ... Show More

Street camera body with a studio camera mind :-)
i've been watching the evolution of digital cameras for quite a few years now. This is the first digital camera i've owned since my old film camera, a Canon A1. For me to pull the trigger on a digital camera, it had to be compact, light weight, ruggedly built, be capable of excellent image quality, offer great control over settings and i saw the value in fully articulated display screens. With these old eyes, it also had to have a diopter adjusta... Show More

My wife and I are both best-categorized as enthusiast-level photographers - and have followed a track of having two similar bodies and overlapping-use lenses and accessories - regardless of brand - so we can share settings, experiences, and the like. We are not brand-loyal and see merits in many brands and combinations. We have migrated through various sensor-sizes of Minoltas, Nikons, Canons, Panasonics and now to Olympus. A massive improvement on an amazing tool
My previous iteration of this camera (the OMD EM5 mark 1) lasted through three years, 150k frames and shot on 5 continents. Rugged as all get, that camera has been bumped, scraped, splashed and routinely shaken silly during mountain bike rides. Aside from a shutter replacement at around 100k shots and some finicky behavior out of the mode dial, it still works like a champ. Enter the Mark ii. It is obvious that Olympus looked at every gripe and wh... Show More

Superb results, compact, versatile
The EM-5 MKII is everything that is great about the MKI with some minor updates that I have found to be very beneficial. Some of my professional projects include product photography, interior photography, people, candid and street photography and video projects. Here are some features that I like about the Mark II: RE: VIDEO - In terms of video, the stabilization feature of the EM-5 MKII is nothing short of awesome. Its enables super-smooth handh... Impressive little camera
BQ: I am very impressed by the build quality. It has metal dials that feel nicer than probably any other camera I have used. The body is Magnesium alloy, and it has a nice weight to it without being to heavy or to light. I was also blown away by how you can customize so many buttons and the dials as well. I'll Briefly list the other pros about it. Ergonomics: It feels pretty good in the hands especially for a smaller grip. My only gripe with the ... Show More

a lot to appreciate
Since having the MKI ( for nearly 3 years), it has continually proved to be a stellar still camera for what's required on some of my professional projects (multi-media - product, interior, people, candid, street photography) and for personal use, but with that said the video aspects of the MKI was certainly an area of opportunity. The Mark II goes above and beyond in terms of video options, and remains as would be expected in a MKI upgrade an ama... Show More

Why I sold my Olympus OMD E-M5 mark ii
This is not a traditional review but rather some thoughts I have on the Olympus OMD E-M5 mark ii, based on my experience. I had owned this camera for 8 months and took over 12,000 photos. I used some good lenses, which are mentioned below. I wanted a better camera than what the small sensor and 1-inch cameras were delivering. I read the hype on the Olympus system including boastful statements that DSLR owners are switching over to Olympus cameras... Show More

Great Camera
Before buying this camera I watched all the YouTube Videos, read every review I could find and downloaded and read the owner's manual. I also copied and saved pictures of this camera as well as the E-M1 (to compare them side by side). I have a Stylus -1 which is a great little point and shoot and an E-M10 which I have enjoyed using. I bought the 10 used and bought all 3 Sigma 2.8 DN primes to go with it as well as the Panasonic 45-275 zoom and a ... Show More

Mighty Mouse!
I have purchased the Olympus OM-D EM-5 Mark 2 (Good heavens, the name of the camera is too big to print it on its body!) in Australia about a year ago. The reason to buy it was the weight of my trusted Nikon D800 with all the accompanying accessories. I just can't carry that much any more so I needed something lighter. My first SLR ever was an Olympus OM10 and I remembered it so fondly that the choice of an Olympus camera was a no brainer. With t... Show More

Versatile and Lightweight
I recently converted over to using the OM-D E-M5 II as my primary camera. I'm an avid hiker in Colorado, and I tend to find myself on 8-12 mile hikes every weekend or so. I go hiking year-round, so I needed a camera (and lens) which was lightweight and weather-sealed. Before this camera, I had been using an entry-level Nikon DSLR setup, and I found myself either not taking the camera on outings or leaving it in my pack. I began borrowing my wife'... Show More

Not yet Olympus
Sorry Olympus, hate to burst your bubble but you are not anywhere near the power of DSLR Canon. I have to admit that I fell for the marketing hype of Olympus. 1) The Canon RAW Files are way more powerful and have so much more data. You can push the raw files in photoshop really hard in Canon. For Olympus, it seems like the raw files dont want to be touched at all. As soon as you start messing with them, you see really weird colors, lines, noise e... Show More

Excellent Fit for Me
I am absolutely delighted by this camera! From the quiet mechanical shutter to the smooth lens mount (both of my EM-10's had tight lens mounts) this thing just oozes build quality. The Olympus announcement that it will be getting the new features from the EM-10 MkII in a November v2.0 software update (except for the touchpad focus while using the EVF which didn't work for me anyway) was the icing on the cake. So it ended up being a bit more than ... Show More

What a camera!
After touring 9 national parks out west with my nikon D7000, a 70-200 f4 lens, a wide angle lens, and a 65-85 lens, I called uncle! I didn't use all the lenses because my kit was just to flipping heavy. The straw that broke my back was having to use my head, literally to hoist my bag into the overhead bin coming home. The first time I heard about this camera was from a Nat Geo photographer who used it on his magazine shoots to get into places whe... Show More

Quality / Repair Concerns
I bought a new OMD EM-5 from B&H in July 2015. B&H did good. Olympus not so much. I'm a heavy user but I was very careful to treat the camera well. Took it in the field a lot, subjected to rain twice, never dropped or damaged from handling. I probably took more than15,000. Not a lot when you consider you can expect 100,000 to 150,000 from a Nikon DLSR. In August 2016, 13 months after purchase, a month out of warranty, the shutter broke. Only Olym... Show More

Great travel camera
I am a traditional Nikon D750 and Leica M240 user, but recently bought the E-M5 Mark II for my recent Europe trip and couldn't be happier. Don't get me wrong, there are some compromised to be made if you're coming from the full-frame camp (dynamic range and resolution, to name a few). But when it comes to portability, great image quality, and photographic flexibility, the E-M5 Mark II delivers in spades. Love the dials when shooting in ever-chang... Show More

Great evolutionary improvements
If you buy this camera, perhaps the most important thing you can do is read the instruction manual. Compared to the E-M5, the Mark II is improved in almost every respect. The operation and placement of the external controls are more positive, responsive and logical. Although... Show More

Worrisome purchase
I purchased this camera as a temporary replacement for my OM-D E-M1, which was the "flagship" camera for Olympus back when I bought it. The E-M1 is being repaired, as the shutter began to continually freeze, particularly working outdoors in moderately cool weather. I was really upset with this problem, which has been written about on a number of blogs and posts and apparently is an issue with the E-M1. My problem is that I have a lot of Olympus e... Show More

A Superbly weighted and balanced camera
Once, I had too a problem with the screen going black. I discovered it was operator error; actually a software glitch. This was several months ago, but the best I can remember, it happened because of the lens choice vs. the menu setting. IE, either the lens was connected electrically (through the contact points) and the MENU setting was SHOOT W/O LENS....or else the problem was a with a non-electrical setup (like an old Nikon lens with an adapter...
