So far, I have used this to install Windows and various applications and it has worked as expected. No surprises. I haven't used it yet to create a CD, DVD, or Blu-Ray, but I don't anticipate any problems.

Worth it so far!
I bought this writer off of a review from another site and an earlier model. The owner claimed to have been using it for 5 years with no trouble and was trying a new brand that died in less then a month. So I bought the latest model and as of this writing I have only burned 6 wedding videos and have had 0 trouble! Hope this helps!

Works in MacPro
Installed in a MacPro 2010, Sierra OS 10.12.5. This is a replacement optical drive for the other BluRay driver (Not Pioneer brand) that failed in less than 6 months. The BDR-209DBK is almost a Plug and Play for the MacPro. The only issue is you have to turn off (uncheck) Put hard disks to sleep when possible in Energy Saver located in System Preferences. Pioneer Blu-ray Burner
This is my first purchase of a Pioneer Optical Drive. I purchased it to replace a Blu-ray Writer that became defective. This Pioneer Blu-ray Drive has worked flawlessly since I purchased it. It is 3D ready also, which I wanted. So far so good.

Impressive
The generic DVD reader/writer in my Dell XPS 8500 died, so I needed a replacement. This Pioneer BDR-209DBK is a great replacement. It was easy to install and it worked immediately. This is an OEM bare drive that ships without software, but since I already have CyberLink PowerDVD 10 (that came with the LG BE14NU40 14x External Blu-ray Disc Rewriter that I got for playing BDs on my laptop) I didn't need any additional software. The Pioneer BDR-209DBK works flawlessly. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro. So far, everything is working flawlessly.

Works as expected so far...
Frankly, it is too early to give it a 5 stars - I've been using this machine for couple of weeks only. Never the less, it has been working fine - I was able to write re-writable Blu-Ray and couple of DVDs - no problems. Installation was easy (Windows 8.1) - no compatibility issues, only I had to get SATA data cable - drive comes without any cables/hardware/software, so be aware of it. Pioneer does it again
Mainly used to play bluray movies, and burn music cd's, Whats great about the player is you can back up at least 25 gigs of data/music on 1 bluray recordable disc!!! Whats not so great??? haven't found anything yet! I LIKE IT SO MUCH, I PURCHASED 2 OF THEM, However please you MUST HAVE A PROGRAM {PLAYER} FOR THE PIONEER BLURAY DISC PLAYER TO WORK! example... POWER DVD 14 IS WHAT I HAVE.
