Smaller than I Thought

Dec 26, 2019

This is my first Micro Four Thirds camera and I love it. Even though many owners say it is bid and heavy, it is so much smaller and lighter than my older Canon 1Ds body, and so many more features!

My first mirrorless camera

Dec 24, 2019

I am getting acquainted with my new M1X, playing with so many variables. So far, so good. The ergonometrics are wonderful, the camera is light, even with my Zuiko 300mm lens ( (compared to my Canon 7D MIi with Sigma 150-600 mm lens). Picture quality and ease of use, I.e., intuitiveness is good. I shoot RAW, and had to get used to Olympus photo capture software, no problem. I export jpegs to Adobe Photoshop Elements 13; just one added step. I am getting DSLR quality wildlife images from a smaller, quieter, easier to carry format. Fun!

Wish I had switched earlier!

Nov 27, 2019

After 20 years with Canon cameras and 10 with Nikon before that, I can honestly say this was a tough decision. However, after only a few days, I was hooked. The menu is so customizable, it feels like I built the camera for me. I will say the color is note quite the same as Canon, but I am still learning to tweak things on the camera.

You Get What You Pay For

Nov 27, 2019

This is an expensive camera. Until you actually use it you will not know what an outstanding experience using this camera is. The build and ergonomics are outstanding. The IBIS among the best in the industry (leave your tripod at home) The Hand Held High Resolution elevates this camera another notch. Plenty of shots per charge. Pricey--yes, but you get what you pay for.

More than the sum of its parts

Aug 4, 2019

I owned an EM1 mk II for two years prior to purchasing this camera. On the surface it didn't make a great deal of sense to replace it with the E-M1X as it only seems like a minor improvement. However this camera is more than the sum of its parts and the overall experience of the camera is significantly more enjoyable than the EM1 mk II. SIZE AND ERGONOMICS - This is the primary criticism of this camera (along with the price). I have large hands a... Show More

Once you use it, you'll know.

Jul 27, 2019

To many this camera does not make a lot of sense. It's too big, too expensive, etc. You will hear all manner of discussion on this. And, all of that will melt away when you use it. This is a great tool. I say that shooting M43, FF and MF. The ergonomics on the camera are excellent. The size is perfect for average hands. The image quality is excellent and the lens system is very built out. Nothing performs like pro level M43 Zooms and primes. The... Show More

Amazing

Jun 28, 2019

I just got back from 3 weeks of safari in Africa. I was shooting mostly video. The image stabilization is unmatched. All of my video was shot hand-held. Amazing. I have shot other brands (Nikon and Sony) and the Olympus's image stabilization is so much better. The size and weight of the lenses is also dramatically different. The pro lenses are extremely sharp. Everyone should have the 12-100mm. I just can't lug big heavy lenses anymore. I wasn't crazy about the size of the 1X but it was nice with all of the controls that nicely fit my hand. I also shot a lot of slo-mo during the trip.

Are You Ready for a 600 Page Instruction Manual?

May 20, 2019

It is way too early to review-Ive only had it for a month. Ask me again in 6 months. I am not new to Olympus-my first was an OM-1, nor to E-M1s-this is my third. A couple of things I can say now. It is beautifully made; top drawer materials and assembly. I dont know what a pro camera is--the only adjustments a real pro needs are aperture, shutter, and focus, but there are a bazillion things that you can set it up for, and it will give you nice re... Why I purchased the EM1X:

May 5, 2019

Reliability is the most critical feature that a camera can possess when used in a professional, avocational environment. If a camera will not function due to mechanical failure then it doesnt matter what wonderful features it possesses. It must at least turn on and capture images to be useful. Therefore, unbridled reliability (including durability) is the most critical feature. What were the next considerations? What informed my continuing decisi... Show More

Pro excellence

Apr 11, 2019

Olympus obviously has put a lot of thought and effort into this pro camera. Youve read the reviews, and watched the vlogs, and either understand the value this camera brings to you, or think its overpriced for what you get. This camera is a tool. Buy it if it meets your needs. It has met mine. Im impressed with the hand held hi res mode. Landscape photographers, studio, commercial ones will appreciate this feature. Besides M4/3, I shoot medium fo... Show More

Incredible camera in every way

Apr 7, 2019

Too many new features over the E-M1 Mark II but having GPS built into the camera, full WiFi control with an iPhone, and autofocus area spread programmable by the user are groundbreaking features that I wish Nikon would provide with its pro cameras.

Light, Powerful, and Fast.

Mar 12, 2019

Had the opportunity to use this Camera at the Firestone, St. Petersburg Grand Prix. It is a joy to carry, light. Images were tack sharp using the 40mm-150mm Zuiko lens, Full Frame equivalent of 80-300mm. With a new Pro 150-400mm 4.5 lens due out within the next year, it will be a very attractive Camera for Birders and Sports Photographers. Here is my best Grand Prix Picture.

Best m4/3 camera yet

Mar 12, 2019

If youre invested in m4/3 gear and use it professionally than this is the body for you. Its a solid well thought out camera with every bell and whistle you can possibly think of. With Its 16 cores (Double dual quad core processors) its a super computer in your hand, which lead to being quicker in every way to the E-M1 MkII, amazing speed!

Ergonomically and functionally pleasing Olympus body.

Mar 11, 2019

Capable, like the E-M1 Mark II with which it shares much. Joysticks a real plus for focusing. Ill be curious to see how RRS fits the new body out with an Arca-Swiss plate that doesnt unduly impede the portrait mode handgrip -- although with the in-body and in-lens stabilization one will not need a tripod all that much. It is notably heavier than the Mark II, but not enough to really matter. Very nicely built; a lot of thought given to the ergonom... Show More
