I bought this lens for an Olympus PEN E-PL2 and I'm very pleased with the performance so far. It's a perfect complement to the 14-42 kit lens for travel, giving me wide angle to long telephoto in a very small, light kit. When zoomed to 150mm it can be hard to use the focus zoom due to extreme magnification of the movement, but the image stabilizer does a remarkable job handling shake at this focal length. I've enjoyed using my OMD EM-10 for several months and have used some very high quality lenses from Olympus: 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro, 75mm f/1.8, 25mm f/1.8. Does what the numbers say
When I first took it out of the box I thought it was fake. This lens is very light and plasticy-feeling. Had to stare at the Oly logo for a while to get the confidence and attach it to my EPL5. This lens fills in the spot between my Panasonic 12-32mm kit lens and the Olympus 75-300mm long tele zoom I purchased last month. On the Panasonic GM1 there is no image stabilization, but I am finding the lack of mirror slap and with electronic shutter, I still consistently get sharp handheld photos at moderate shutter speeds. In my limited use so far, I have been pleased with the quality of photos I can get with this lens. I bought it for general telephoto use outdoors. This was my first telephoto lens, and I wasn't too sure about what to expect. The first thing that struck me was how small it is. At it's shortest length, it is only about the thickness of the lens cap longer than the kit 14-42 lens when it's extended. It is also the same size in diameter. This lens is great for most photos that require a longer focal length than the standard zoom lenses. This would include portraits, candids at parties and weddings, reasonably close sports shots, larger wild animals. For smaller wildlife, birds etc, and sports at greater distances (e.g. cricket) one needs a much longer focal length. The sharpness for this lens is awesome, the fact that are plastic it's not a downside for me since they are really lightweight. Excellent light weight lens that reaches all the way to 300 mm EFL in light and small package. The construction, despite being all plastic, including the mount, is sturdy and the fact that the lens barrel is single cam only, inspires even more confidence. This lens perfectly demonstrates the difference between Olympus' pro-sumer and PRO line of lenses. I have a few of both. I tend to rate items in relation to their cost. It would be silly to expect this lens to be in the same category as one 10 times the price; yet no professional lens is 10 times the value of a good albeit slower lens such as this. After buying a new MFT system I needed a telephoto lens. This was a winner for the price.Good zoom range and descently sharp photos for cheap. AF is a bit sluggish but is not poor and still works fine. In good light it focuses well but not at super-speeds. Performance in AF drops with the amount of available light but that is no surprise. This is a sharp lens. I've had it now for about two weeks. I've used it to shoot farmers markets and some walkabouts around Helena. I've been very happy with the image quality. I bought this lens to compliment the 12- 50mm for my EM-5. I guess one reasonable question is whether or not one would be better off with buying only the camera body and then the more pricey 12 to 150(?)mm. One reason not to is that lens is not weather proof and the 12-50mm is. This lens is super nice. Not only does it have great IQ, but it is lighter than the 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro lens on my Olympus OM-D 5 II. I mainly use it in daylight so the f/4 is more than adequate. I've only used the lens a brief time, but have been quite impressed. I used it for a few low light portraits of children and got results much better than I anticipated considering the low cost of this lens.
