Sleek design
I recently purchased an external optical drive to use with my new iMac. Thus far I have not actually used the device, but like the small, sleek footprint, and the ease of simply plugging in a single cable for it to be operative. Very pleased with my entire purchase and the service provided by B&H. Purchase actually arrived sooner than had been expected.

About as good as Lower Priced Competitor
First off if you are buying it to use with a newer MAC Book Pro or any thunderbolt port only device, buy an adapter! It won't work in the port of a multi adapter. It has to have a dedicated Thunderbolt port. There is no pin hole to poke if if you need to eject a CD or DVD if you have a problem. I have already run into this. I was able to unplug and then replug in the device and retry eject CD and that worked. Its a pretty MAC device, but it works just like any other brand at less than half the price. Also, the pretty white case scuffs very easy. Next time I would buy the lower priced brand.

easy, compact
This device has a small footprint and is very thin. No instructions were necessary. It was plug and play. Only wonder why apple no longer equips its iMacs with this necessary interface.

Works fine. No problems.
Got this to Replace a LG UltraSlim Portable which broke after 3 months use. I have a new MacMini and no issues.

Useful addition!
The SuperDrive is not for everyone but if you still need to read or create CD/DVDs then this is a great looking drive that works great. The only problem is that the case doesnt match the color of the new Mac Mini which is a great shade of Space Gray. There may be cheaper drives available but none will match the beauty of Apples drive. The price is modest.

Apple USB SuperDrive
7/4/19: This drive performed MOSTLY as expected. I took off 1 star because its cable is too short to reach the rear of my (any) iMac. So, I plugged the drive into my AC power assisted hub. However, the drive did not function. Therefore, I attached a 3-feet USB extension cable. It solved the 'reach' to my iMac problem and the drive now functions normally.

Im not ready for a world of no DVD media
I just got a new iMac. If youve noticed almost all new desktop computers are configured without an internal DVD drive. Im not ready for that brave new world, so I bought this device. The SuperDrive requires no configuration. Plug it in; its ready to run. It requires a standard USB port that can power a peripheral (like on the back of the computer). The drive works exactly the same as the internal SuperDrives work in older iMac models. And just like the internal SuperDrives there is no device icon on your desktop until you insert a DVD or CD.

It works and its good
I dont understand the negative reviews. I plugged it in to a USB port on my iMac and it worked fine. However, if youre thinking of buying one, keep these things in mind: 1. Its has an integrated USB 2.0 cable. It would have been nice if Apple upgraded this to USB 3.0 but I dont know that it would have sped up the drives operation. 2. Lets face it CDRs are old technology. A lot of my old CDs and DVDs that I saved files to are scratched. They... Show More

Looks good with my iMac
There were somewhat less expensive options(not by much though). Felt it would cause less hassle to buy Apple product. This works great so Im happy. Fast and free shipping. Thanks B&H

Highly recommended. Just what I needed.
Works great...I got a new Apple computer and it didnt have a CD drive. I needed a CD drive/burner, so I ordered this one and it is great! Small, compact if I should need to carry it with me. I recommend it highly!

Works Fine
I bought this to replace a failed internal CD/DVD drive on a mid-2008 Mac Pro that I was to lazy to try and replace. Sadly, the SuperDrive apparently cant be used as long as the MPs internal drive is still connected. (It is listed as being compatible.) But the new SuperDrive is happily burning DVDs on a 13 retina MacBook Pro, though significantly more slowly than the original MacPros drive. I also have a much older SuperDrive on a MacMini that continues to work fine reading CDs. No problems with either of my SuperDrives except for the slower burning speed.

Apple SuperDrive
It does what I want it to do very well: it reads CDs & DVDs. I havent tried to burn a disc with this unit so I dont know how well it does it. My old mini came with a superdrive installed/included. My new one didnt. So, I needed one and this unit now sits atop my new mini and does its job and now makes the new mini as good as the old one was.

great device for our times
Having lived through all of the stages of 78s, 45s, LPs, 8-tracks, cassettes, CDs, and now music everywhere including the cloud, its great to have this simple device to save my extensive collection of CDs to the cloud and memory cards and creating my own programs of favorite music. If only we could have started here. (But I will forever miss the graphic and great music writing on the LPs.)

The Apple USB SuperDrive works fine on newer Macs
This drive only works on newer Apple Computers. I had to purchase another DVD/CDW drive to work on my old iMac G-5 to replace the worn out drive built in the computer; I was lucky that B&H had that drive and it works fine. I had no problems with theApple USB SuperDrive on my new computer and will keep when I replace the newer computer (7 years old now) as the new iMacs do not have a built in drive.

Its Apple so...
Its Apple so it just works right out of the (beautifully designed) box with my MacBook Pro. Nice to see old videos on a Retina screen.

Awesome for the 13 people that still burn disks.
Yeah, so who really even uses a disk drive anymore? Well, if youre a mid-40s guy like me that still has a couple thousand music CDs sitting in closets from bands of the 90s that Apple music has forgotten then this drive is absolutely perfect for you. What are you waiting for? Burn em all and keep living the days where you could eat what you wanted, sleep till noon, rent was $300 and you picked up people at bars - not online. This drive looks great with my Mac Mini and does exactly what I want it to do.

Clean design, slim and no need for a power cable!
Works well with my new iMac. Love the fact that it does not require a power cord. I use it for backing up and transferring files to DVD for archival purposes and to distribute files to friends and family.

So Far So good
I bought a New USB Superdrive to use with a 2017 IMAC (also bought from B&H) and Im completely satisfied with both. The superdrive is working flawlessly and it looks as if it was designed to sit artfully on top of the flanged aluminum base of my MAC.. Come to think, it probably was. I had never used an external CD drive before now, because I've never had to.Thats a separate issue. Also I can understand why some aren't happy with the lack of an ac... Show More

Does the job!!
This USB 2 model is just fine for occasional use. I've no need for the USB 3 version since I'm not doing frequent transfers.

Very Satisfied
Bought it to replace one that I bought near 2,010 or 2,011. I already have used this new replacement for some 15 Gb of my library's music recording. Look forward to using this new one some 8 plus years. I would recommend to a friend.

Great Apple USB SuperDrive
Since Apple no longer puts an optical drive in thier computers this is the best for copying songs and pictures etc.

Finally complete!
Im not an mp3 sort of guy and was missing a disc drive for my Mac Book Pro. Problem solved! My new usb drive isnt practical to use while on the go but with a little planning I can download and enjoy full wave files whenever I like.

Apple USB SuperDrive
I decided to make this purchase at the same time as the purchase of an iMac. The new iMacs don't have a CD/DVD drive included. The SuperDrive is small and takes up minimal space and it's quiet too. I find the minimalist styling sleek and unobtrusive. I recorded several CD's and a few DVD's and found no issues whatsoever. Same with playback. I really didn't expect any issues from a new unit but I know from experience that isn't always the case. That said, I'm quite pleased with this purchase. Only time will be the final arbiter of longevity. Like the caveat states: "Mileage may vary"

nice quality, external DVD drive
just what I expected. works flawlessly like most Apple hardware. put in a disk, it plays and on my new MCP without a internal drive necessary in my opinion. would have given it 5 stars, and no fault of the reseller, but I think apple is short sighted in not offering any version of blue laser external drives so you can watch blu-ray. But I understand they (apple) want you to buy higher quality either through Apple TV or via Itunes. I am old fashioned, I like the actual medium disk and don't want to constantly be connected to the cloud ever time I want to watch a 1080P res movie.
