If only for the chord

Mar 5, 2010

I was nervous about buying headphones at this price since I have been breaking my cheap ones like crazy, but after receiving them there are now worries. After I broke them in by letting them play away for a couple days to some classical music these bad boys became stellar in sound. Yes, they are big headphones, but obviously you are not here to buy junk ear buds, you actually want to listen to all the instruments, and believe me they let you list... Show More

Perfect for my needs

Feb 25, 2010

I bought these to use with my PC because I needed a solution to blast my music and play videogames loudly without annoying my family through our paper-thin walls. It's been over a week now and these headphones work great. I'm not a complete audiophile, but I do hear well and these headphones have allowed me to listen into all the little details I couldn't hear with my iPod earplugs. I don't receive any distortion playing rock on the highest volum... Show More

MDR-V6 Better than expected...

Feb 24, 2010

I'm completely surprised by these headphones. I've been reading a lot of reviews before actually making this purchase. It's a surprise how old or really how long Sony has been making these particular headphones. It reproduces great bass and excellent highs. I was watching a movie on my PS3 while they were connected to my A/V receiver and I could hear sounds that I never noticed before. The coiled wire is awesome too because it actually kind of st... Headphones Are worth the price!!!

Feb 24, 2010

am very pleased with Sony MDR-V6 Professional Stereo Headphones. They have met all of my criteria nicely; they cost under $100.00 (got them cheap at http://www.bhphotovideo.com ...); they are light weight, and; they reproduce sound across the entire musical range (10Hz - 20,000Hz). An added bonus: they fold up nicely so that I can take them with me on those rare occasions when I travel with my laptop. And Sony provided me with a handy soft pouch ... Show More

Awesome

Feb 22, 2010

My search for headphones started with an ambition for to find the best noise cancelling headphones. I ultimately found that they were 1. bose qc15, 2. bose qc33. sony MDR-NC500Din the process of this search, I found the MDR-v6's at a sony store. the salesman informed me that these are the music industry standard. they retail for $110, b&h hand them for $ and the sound quality beats all 3 of the above listed $300+ headphones (granted, you lose noise cancelling). these headphones are a steal. stop reading and just buy them. you won't regret it.

At this price range, the sony v6 does it right. i wouldnt recommend workin out with these heapdhones, you will feel the sweat in your accumulating around your ears and earpads. ugh. Great ENG field headphones

Feb 18, 2010

Most headphones are designed to make music sound good. These seem to be designed to help an audio guy hear problems -- exactly what I needed! I use them with a variety of mics for my camera during interviews and whenever I'm really concerned about levels and distracting ambient noise. They'll pick up whispers of wind noise that other, much more expensive headphones don't reproduce well. In fact, they're great because I can detect noise I don't wa... Show More

Great Product at a great price

Feb 14, 2010

If you are looking for a great set of headphones for the money, the Sony MDR V6 are a good choice. I won't ramble on about all the technical jargon, there are many reviewers far more knowledgeable than I on this site to do that. I bought these for personal use around home, with computers, I Touch, etc. and simply put, they sound great to my ears! I'm sure that you can spend much, much, more for headphones and they will outshine these. But the soun... Show More

If sound isolation is what you need, these will be hard to beat at any price; Open cans is another story. I remember when these were the Best Buy in Consumer Reports over 2 decades ago(I am 63 years old). My first pair I sold, in working condition, after a mere 17 years. Like most Pleather covered earpads, on many other brands, these too will require replacement every 2-3 years or so. The frequency graphs/charts on @ show these still to be among t... Show More

You will find most pro's using Sony V6

Feb 11, 2010

We own and use a couple of dozen of these headphones, both in the studio, and out in the field. The Sony V6 is the one single product that you will not find disagreement amongst most pro's - these are great headphones - and considered the defacto standard for many pro's. The only headphone you'll ever need to buy. Only drawback is that after years of use, the earpads foam will breakdown - but replacement earpads are readily available and inexpensive.

Outstanding product

Feb 10, 2010

Very honest sound. I use these for tracking acoustic guitar and every sound, good and bad, comes through clearly. I've used many different headphones for this purpose over the years, and these are by far the best. These headphones are indispensable for both home and pro studios. I don't know if I'd recommend them for casual listening. Digital artifacts, background hiss, etc., become very apparent through these headphones. That's what makes them s... Show More

MDR-V6 Sony Stereo Studio Headphones

Feb 7, 2010

Purchased based on several reviews over the internet. Overall the sound is crisp and clear. The bass exceeds that of cheaper headphones and is not overpowering. The headphones are able to handle the highs without distortion. I agree with other reviewers that the design is flimsy, perhaps to allow for collapsing, and that the ear pads are prone to wear and will probably need replacing over time. Overall, for the cost, these headphones are well worth purchasing.

Good Earphones

Feb 4, 2010

I use these headphones on daily basis while programming and doing design work. PROS: They have quality construction and look pretty durable. The ear muffs fit right over the entire ear so pretty good for external noise reduction. Sound is good, I am just running them directly from my iMac so I assume if they are plugged into a nice amp, will sound better. They fold down for easy storage. CONS: The ears sweat inside if worn for any long period of ... Show More

Big comfy headphones

Feb 4, 2010

I have been using these connected to my PC tower at work as well as my iPod. The cord is really long so i wouldn't recommend walking around with them. So far they seem to bring out different tones I had not noticed previously when using a cheap pair of Koss headphones. These do not block out all outside noise but they definitely muffle the outside world a bit. I needed something comfortable for earing throughout much of the day at work, listening... Show More

I bought my first MDR-V6 in 2000 and bought a new pair in 2008 (because I broke the old ones, so note they did not stop working on their own). I've never had better studio headphones of quality that are this comfortable. I once wore my pair for 12 hours straight, and apart from having to air out my ears on occasion there was no discomfort whatsoever. Great Headphones!

Jan 25, 2010

Wow; i would like to start listing all of the many pluses about these headphones but they've already been stated in previous reviews. Basically; they sound great and are extremely comfortable not to mention a great value. Apparently these headphones have been so good that they've been around for about 20 years (i'm sure the technology has changed inside them though). If you can afford these, then buy them and you wont regret it.

I use this when I'm recording, mixing, and jst plain old chillin'. I'm mainly a hip-hopper, but sometimes I listen to pop and ballads/R&B. This is just great for everything. I use these when I'm recording others and myself and mixing up some music. Only bad thing is the earpads, which I replaced with verlour replacement pads. These make these headphones go from a 3.5 to a 5.

MDR-V6 Headphones for the professional

As a film maker I need well made equipment that does its job. And I want things that last and that I can depend on,which is certainly trues with these headphones. They are solid, collapsible, and there isn't a part that will snap, crack,or twist off. There are many more expensive headphones but few offer the sound quality at this price. Its a home run piece of equipment that can just keep going.

These Headphones have worked great for me. The ear cups seal outside noise out and are comfortable as they do so. These were the fourth headphones I purchased in a string of headphones purchased over the last year. I bought the Sennheiser HD280's based on reviews and while they were bright and had a nice transparent quality to them, they lacked fullness and punch on the lower end. I found that I needed to listen to them louder than usual to get that full sound that I wanted. Bought a bluetooth stereo set that was not worth the packaging that it came in. Boug... Show More
