Disappointing camera for the price

Feb 26, 2019

Ive spent some time considering whether to write what is obviously not a great review of this camera, whose performance I feel does not justify the price nor the performance the Leica lens would lead one to expect. I planned to use it on an upcoming trip instead of lugging my DSLR equipment with me but after spending a week taking nature and family pictures I decided to return it, and thank B&H for their no-questions asked return policy. The Perfect Travel Point & Shoot

Dec 23, 2019

I'm a semi-pro photographer for more than 40 years. I've own lots of cameras in my life. I've been a big fan of Panasonic Lumix cameras for a few years now. I own several, G9, G85, a GX7 that I had converted to InfraRed and the LX100 MKII. When we travel my wife likes to have a quality P&S to supplement her iPhone. I decided to upgrade to this ZS200 to replace her aging LX10 and we are both glad we did. This camera is Super Sharp at all focal le... Show More

Not What I Expected

Dec 26, 2019

I did a lot of research before ordering this compact camera. I primarily wanted one with as long a zoom as a compact camera can have. I'm a Canon user. All my cameras and equipment, DSLR and compact, are and always have been Canon. I can move from one Canon to another pretty seamlessly. The menus and settings and positioning of buttons and dials make sense and are ergonomic. Maybe that's why I'm so unhappy with this Panasonic. Or maybe it's just ... Show More

A travellers camera! the FZ1000 now fits in your pocket...

Apr 29, 2018

I did a detailed review of this camera versus the Lumix FZ1000 (super zoom bridge camera) and Lumix LX100 (modest zoom pocketable camera) on Youtube athttps://youtu.be/wlqR4zdpdIE Bottom line is the zoom makes it the best travellers camera by far, built around 4K video and 4K frames from it, and big light gathering 1 20 MP sensor. The touch screen, although excellent is not quite as handy the dials for shutter, aperature and exposure adjustment a... Show More

Does a lot -- none of it well

Apr 21, 2019

When the ZS-200 was first released I sold an older camera with a 1 sensor and bought the ZS-200 for travel photography. I was immediately impressed by the zoom range of the lens and the overall small size of the camera. It has a LOT of flexibility in operation and so I spent some time studying the user manual, adjusting the settings over time to get it to work exactly as I wished. For some reason the test shots I made were disappointing, but I ch... Show More

Versatile camera

Nov 27, 2018

Im still learning all of its features but its aquite useful high quality small camera. The zoom lens is why I chose this one and its good in bright light, but not so great in low light conditions. The tiny pop up flash is bright and more than sufficient for ordinary close range still photography. Its battery can be charged via a micro USB port but the camera must be off for it to charge. One can also buy an extra battery to switch out. There is a... Show More

Disappointing

May 26, 2018

The image quality is just not good enough...especially at the longest focal lengths...which is supposedly what this camera is about. AND...although it performs pretty well, with decent sharpness in bright light, it gets fuzzy as light wanes and ISO increases. Over the years I've had three small cameras before this one. A Leica D-Lux 3 and D-Lux 5, and a Sony RX-100, the first version. All were far superior in image to this camera. The two little... Show More

Compromise

Oct 22, 2018

I had started out wanting to buy Sony's RX 100 VI, a zoomable step-up from my existing V model, but the price was daunting, so ... Panasonic. Pros include an easy upload via USB of RAW or JPG files and ready access to exposure adjustment on the fly. Cons include the real need for exposure adjustment - in daylight the camera consistently over-exposes, if left to its own devices. '4K photo' is a quick access way of taking a brief movie seq... I like it so much about it, but ....

May 10, 2018

I really like the performance, features and build of this camera, but it seems it still has a serious bug lurking within (likely software or firmware). The problem I have experienced is that it randomly "locks up" or freezes, totally (nothing works, even the off-on switch when this occurs). The only thing I've found that works when it does so is to remove the battery at that time. Unfortunately, the photo opportunity at that precious moment is mi... Show More

Great Travel Camera

Jul 14, 2019

I have had this camera for 6 months and traveled with it all over the United States and Canada. I've been very pleased with the photo quality. It is lightweight and very convenient to use when you want to have a camera with you at all times and not have the weight of a DSLR, but do not want to sacrifice quality. The zoom is excellent. I've gone to NCAA basketball games and have been in the last row of the cheap seats and still have decent pictu... Show More

Good camera--but no charger?

Jun 11, 2018

Bought this to carry when I can't haul along my camera bag. After a few weeks, I can say it takes very good photos. The lens is a bit slow--but I knew that from the specs. You have to be careful with the focusing; the camera may not seize on what you wanted. Overall. it seems reasonably well built. I would probably recommend it to a friend. But WHY do manufacturers not provide a separate charger with devices like this? Can it possibly have escaped their notice that a camera being used to charge a battery cannot be used to take a picture? At this price, leaving out a charger is just cheap.

Good travel camera but pricey and complicated!

Sep 1, 2019

It's well made and small enough to almost fit in your pocket. The manual that comes with it is very basic. If your really want to dig into the settings download the full manual from here: ftp.panasonic.com camera dc-zs200_adv_en_om There are too many settings. I find myself constantly referring back to the manual. So far most of my pics have come out ok, especially the macros. I like the touch screen but it would be nice if it flipped up. If you want a simple uncomplicated travel camera this is not for you.

Great camera--more than needed?

Jun 28, 2018

I am an average take it or leave it user. Not fanatic, not professional, not a camera snob. This is a great camera with the 1" sensor, long lens and compact. I also use burst, bracket and a few other features. But the full manual is over 200 pages with all kinds of options and 90% of those pages I will never use. Also the manual is often complicated to understand and follow. But the camera itself is outstanding. My bigger traditional SLR----gone for good.

Surprisingly Excellent

Jan 27, 2019

I dithered for a long time before I bought this camera, because it had mixed reviews. But the image quality, especially starting from RAW files, is excellent, throughout the whole zoom range. I had not expected that, so Im very pleasantly surprised. Its also a very versatile camera. I havent tried video yet, but the still image quality, the compactness, and the zoom range may make this my go everywhere camera.

Too complicated

Apr 17, 2019

I really wanted to like this camera. With its compact size, large sensor and 15x zoom, it looked like the perfect replacement for a bulky DSLR. But the cluttered, non-intuitive user interface just drove me crazy. The manual is not much help either. I finally gave up and returned it. So its back to the old 60D for now. Five Stars to B&H for their return policy and great customer service!

Reasons I will not buy this camera.

May 14, 2018

Looks like it might take nice photos for a point and shoot. But I also want to shoot video. No 5 axis stabilization in 4K. Cropped 4K recording. No articulated screen or EVF. only 15 minutes recording time at 4K (assume it has over heating issues like the 100 and other point and shoot cameras). Very limited aperture range.

Great photo quality and features

Jul 9, 2018

Large sensor, rapid response allows clear focused photos while cycling, great action shots and wonderful scenery. Would prefer a longer telephoto for travel scenery. Only real complaint is lens cover, which Panasonic hasn't fixed yet. Too fragile, leaves bend easily and then lens gets scratched.

Excellent pocketable general use camera

Apr 23, 2018

Improved EVF and extended zoom range on already excellent camera. No obvious degradation of image with increased zoom range compared to ZS100. With RAW the images approximate images from Crop sensor cameras with adequate lighting. Only improvement needed would be weatherproofing.

I bought this camera to replace an Olympus Stylus 1 for travel. It seemed nice, although the menus were rather daunting. In the end, though, after many test photos, I decided it was not enough of an improvement over the Olympus, so I returned it.
