OK for Price, Zoom Range, & Size/ Weight
The 3-star rating based on comparing the FZ80 IQ (image quality) to my FZ200 IQ, even after downsmpling the FZ80s 18MP images to match the FZ200s 12MP resolution. Bought the FZ80 for its 20-1200mm EFL (Equivalent Focal Length) hoping to use it as to get a similar focal zoom range required the R&R of the Pany LT55 1.7X tele-converter. Unfortunately the combination of image noise, diffraction, and lens IQ decrease at 1000mm - 1200mm EFL, the FZ2... Show More

Nearly great near but far from good far - part 1
I purchased this camera for wildlife photography, specifically birds. My primary gear is a mirrorless system but there are times when hauling all that gear is not feasible. I was drawn to the affordable price, ease, reach of the camera and the flexibility to shoot in RAW or JPEG.I've had this camera for about 3 weeks and have put it to the test in different light and weather conditions. I wanted to love it as it has much to offer but the results ... Show More

Seems to be what I need.
I purchased this camera mainly because of the 20-1200 zoom lens. I already had a Canon 20D and Canon 50D with several accessory lenses. However, even with a 1.4 teleconverter, I could not put together a focal length of more than 420mm. I also liked the DMC FZ30 that coincidentally has a zoom going out to 420 that I purchased 10 or more years ago that still functions fine and still takes good photos. So far this FZ80 takes good photos, but I have ... Show More

Lumix owner for some time
I have a few Lumix cameras. Had this for a few months now. I'm no camera tester, but I know what performs and what doesn't. Did purchase (and returned) a different manufacturers camera based on claims. I returned to what works for me, Lumix. These are my personal likes and may not be yours, but the DC-FZ80 focuses fast, and I was surprised that a zoom lens this long actually was sharp (not dedicated lens sharp), but held very good sharpness throu... great camera, makes life easy!
after years of SLR digitals and fully manual nikon FM2 before that, I was dubious that this camera would give everything I need. I was wrong, it is terrific. Of course, you cannot get the image quality with the smaller sensor but I found that the ease of taking pictures and not having to change lenses meant I was getting pictures I surely would have missed with previous cameras. And, the image stabilization must be very good because I was able to... Show More

DSLR-caliber Low-Light Stop Action a Great Price
The camera I bought two months ago just wasn't quite good enough at no-flash stop action in low light for rock concert photography. With DSLR and mirrorless cameras beyond my financial reach, what I needed was a single lens camera with a f/2.8 maximum aperture and a 6400 ISO. The Lumix FZ80 sounded better qualified for the job (including its price), and one trade-in deal later, I am ecstatic with the results. The FZ-80's being full-sized (rather ... Show More

Good camera, not perfect
I wanted a bridge camera with good zoom so I wouldn't have to haul around my mirrorless Sony and extra lenses. I read lots of reviews and settled on the FZ80. It does some things incredibly well; for example, you can get very close to the subject you're photographing--practically touching the subject with the lens. The rear screen is good, though I prefer to use an EVF. That brings up one of the problems--I'm not a huge fan of its EVF for a coupl... Show More

love this camera
I am very pleased with my new camera. It takes great photos, just on automatic settings. (I haven't even begun to figure out its more advanced features.) And the zoom is amazing. I recently returned from a trip to Tanzania, where I got some wonderful photos. (Wonderful for me, that is - I'm not a great photographer.) The five-star rating is for the camera, not for the free accessory kit. While it was certainly nice to get a free memory card, the... Show More

Struggles to focus on wildlife in brush
I have a FZ150 my son has a FZ300. We needed backup cameras for an upcoming safari. When the FZ80 went on sale for less that $300. it seemed to good to be true....it was. This camera may take outstanding landscape or portrait photos (we didnt try those types) but for wildlife in trees and in heavy brush the camera struggles to focus on the subject. Only about 15% of the time did we get in focus shots when handheld, even when only at the 400/500mm... Show More

All in One camera that does everything and takes great pics!
My first super zoom camera was a Panasonic way back when. My son used it for many years after I did. It was an excellent camera. Fast forward 3 cameras and Im back with another Panasonic. And Im thrilled with it and still learning how to use it for the way I want to use it. Its very comfy in my hand, the view finder and screen are crisp and clear, the zoom quick and the view amazing. great camera
I have had this camera for about two weeks now and so far I love it. I have used it for close up shots of flowers and people and long zoom shots of birds. You do need a tripod for those distance shots, especially when you use the digital zoom in addition to the optical 1200 mm, but that was expected. The pictures loose a bit of sharpness with the extra digital zoom, but again, that was expected. The instruction booklet that comes with it is the ... Show More

just got it
My thoughts about it right out of the box, my first thought was how light it is, does not feel right... the plastic feels cheap I think the first time I bump into something it will crack.....when you take a photo using the eye piece, it doesn't show up in the view on the back of the camera which is a pain...you have then select the LVF to display your photo and then hit it again to go back to view through the eye viewfinder...I have taken about 20 photos which I will get them delevoped after my vacation..I am not to happy with this camera so far, I should have stayed with Canon or Nikon

Perfect For A Non Photographer Like Me
I wanted a "bridge" camera with a super-zoom. I mainly photograph the birds in my area and the lilies and roses in my yard. The zoom is great. I've gotten excellent pics of orioles, woodpeckers, Indigo finches, etc. from a distance with the zoom. I'm using the maco and normal settings for flower pics. Honestly, this is more camera than I'll ever learn to use, but I'm really happy with the ease of use and results I'm getting. BTW, I don't understand why anyone wouldn't order the free accessory kit that gives you a $25 camera bag and a $12 SD card for the same price as just the camera.

Good Value, rugged too
I recently purchased this camera for a safari in Southern Africa. It performed flawlessly the entire time. I was able to get pictures with the 1200 mm lens that the Cannon people with their 300 mm lenses could not. Their body alone was three times what I spent for my Panasonic. I could not shoot multiple frames as fast as the more expensive cameras was the only downside. I even gave the camera a 1 meter drop test while showing accessories. It came out with a few dings in the flash cover and no other damage after dropping 3 feet onto the dirt! This is a good value for your money.

Love how good the zoom is
I bought this camera specifically for the 60X zoom feature, and have been greatly enjoying how much more effective it is at photographing local wildlife than my previous camera with an 8X zoom. The most challenging shot so far was taking a picture of a hawk about 50 feet away, on a cloudy day, without a tripod. The picture came out sharp enough that I could see the toenails on its talons! Color balance is excellent. Being able to use the touch-screen to select an area to focus on works very well. The case that came with the camera is very convenient.

Overall great camera
This is the first REAL camera I've ever owned, and so far it's been near perfect. It takes beautiful stills and stunning videos, giving you the option to use automatic settings or go full manual. And, of course, the 20-1200mm zoom is AMAZING!! You can take pictures from MILES away with stunning clarity. The only downsides of the camera that I've found is that it doesn't do great in low light, and you can only adjust the focus with automatic settings or manually using the touch screen.

Sorry I Purchased This
I was looking for a point and shoot with zoom to complement my Olympus OMD. From the gitgo I wasnt happy with this but kept thinking I would come to like it. It has a cheap feel to it and the color is never quite right. What I see does not translate to the photo. Ive usually purchased Nikon but a friend has this camera and took some great pictures. So I thought Id give it a try. After just a year Im going back to Nikon Coolpix 900. I feel like I wasted my money.

Too many features..
Used the FZ80 for 3 weeks then returned. Theres probably 100 different features, each difficult to access. Not intuitive at all. Also, the picture quality was disappointing. The sharpness was not as expected. My old Fujifilm S-6800 was sharper in side by side shooting, and much easier to use. Good stabilized zoom and great video quality. But the bottom line for any camera is quality of the photos, and for me, it just wasnt there.

A Fun Camera
This camera is a blast! But please don't think your getting a $1,500 camera for $400. It has a 1/2.3 sensor - not capable of the images the more expensive cameras will give you. But they won't give you a 20mm-1200mm lens either! It's an inexpensive camera hanging on the back of an inexpensive telescope. It is a fun camera!! Screen Failed in Year and Half
B and H Photo is great I hold nothing against them. I wanted to try something new I should have stuck with Canon. The Panasonic cameras display screen failed in a year and half. Made the whole camera worthless they did warranty it but it does explain why they offered a free upgrade to 3 year limited warranty. Dont get me wrong it does take ok pictures and the movies are nice but a camera should last for little longer.

DC-FZ80 performs well.
I got this camera as an update to the Fuji HC20. I am not disappointed. Only con is when mounted on a tripod you can't open the door to take out the memory and the battery life short when using the flash. Get an extra battery and setup camera with wifi to your phone to move pictures without taking off tripod. Besides those cons the camera is very good. Fast video focusing which was lacking in the Fuji is very good.

Could not be happier!
I have previously owned the Lumix DMC-FZ70 and upgraded to the FZ80. I could not be more thrilled by the clarity! The camera is excellent in low light with few pixelations with blown up and the zoom clarity is outstanding. The close-ups are also much improved from the earlier versions. Honestly, if you don't want to lug around a lot of heavy equipment but still value a great shot, this is the camera for you!
