In the six years since I acquired the first-gen OM-D I have shot thousands of excellent pictures, with a very high rate of keepers. I have also accumulated eight lenses, so I have more coverage now at a lower cost than ever before. What was good: I was completely happy with the Sony 16-megapixel FourThirds sensor. Although I made a rule that I would never dip into the 6400 ISO, the world has changed. Mobile phone cameras rule. I use 6400 ISO wh... Show More

light in weight, but a heavy weight in features

Feb 16, 2020

I have used all of the Olympus OMD Em5 cameras and the Em1 markII. The latter I very much liked, travelled with it for years, and when the latest Em5 markIII came out as a lighter version of the Em1 mark II, I was interested. I've also have used Panasonic cameras, I like the M4/3 format, though I know that is not the fashionable thing to admit. For me the size and lightness matters, but also the selection of lens is a major factor. Olympus (and P... Show More

Happy So Far With High Hopes

Jan 19, 2020

When I first opened the box and had the E-M5 III in my hands for the first time I was a little concerned. It is much lighter than the previous version and does not have that built like a tank feeling when you hold it. However, the build does have tight tolerances and all the moving parts feel solid and secure with the exception of the on switch that feels a bit cheap. Handling wise everything is great. The switches and buttons are in the right pl... Show More

New Camera & Very Happy

Nov 26, 2019

This is just a very preliminary review as I have only had the camera for a few days and have made only some test pictures to ensure it is operating properly which it is. So far so good. Until now I have been using the EM5 Mark II with great results but there were two features on the Mark III that immediately caught my attention a slightly higher resolution sensor and - the in camera battery charging. upgrading from the em5 mark ii

Feb 26, 2020

so far I love this camera. I upgraded from my em5 mark ii and the phase detect autofocus is a massive upgrade. With the mark ii, I rarely shot in continuous AF due to the slow nature of it, but this camera is a massive/complete difference. Well worth the upgrade. The hoopla over the plastic construction is mostly a non-issue once you hold the camera. Of course I would prefer the magnesium build of the mark ii, but this camera definitely feels sol... Superb little camera

Mar 10, 2020

I bought this as my travel camera, Im slowly working my way downwards in weight and bulk and even my A7iii plus lenses is too much for a trip. I would have liked a few more M Pixels but I honestly cant say Ive really noticed. Ive been shooting a lot of HS baseball lately and the phase detect AF is very good, not as good as the Sonys but what is. Ive even started shooting Jpeg again as the quality straight out of the camera is almost perfect and I... Show More

Great travel and everyday camera

Dec 19, 2019

I wasnt even considering this camera at first, until I picked it up. Im a Nikon D610 user and was looking for a portable mirrorless camera for travel and everyday carry, but still with the general functionality of a DSLR. I really liked the Fuji X-T3 and almost got it, but it was still too heavy. I just happened to pick up the demo Olympus camera at the store and immediately it felt right. This is a very well designed camera. I paired it with... Show More

Fun and Amazing

Dec 3, 2019

Let me qualify this by proclaiming that I am a huge fan of M43 and everything it stands for. I recently upgraded from my E-M5 (skipped the mk II) and couldn't be happier. Just shot over 800 photos at a high school football game in high speed shutter-less silent mode with continuous auto-focus enabled on my 40-150mm pro lens. Wow. Shot at ISO 5000 and it was a huge upgrade over the prior week em5 at 1600. Plugged in the amazing 60mm macro today an... Show More

Spectacular Upgrade

Feb 24, 2020

I purchased an OM-D E-M5 Mark III as an upgrade from the Mark II, which I upgraded from a Mark 1, after I switched from a DSLR system. I used the Mark II for four years, really enjoyed it, and got some magnificent shots with it. The Mark III has tremendous upgrades and has resulted in a marked improvement in photographing options and experience. The Mark III has several features which I feel are essential reasons for upgrading: bluetooth connecti... Show More

One month in, I'm pleased

Feb 17, 2020

I currently have both an E-M1 and E-M1.2, and bought this to replace the E-M1 (as a second / backup camera for the E-M1.2) and a GX9) as a lightweight walk-around carry. I've already used the E-M5.3 as a second body at a dinner theater shoot, and I'm pleased with the results (aside from user errors). The focusing is quick, the images are great, the weight is fantastic. Even without the grip, I'm happy using it with a lens as large as the Panasoni... Show More

Amazing camera with one glaring flaw

Feb 17, 2020

The E-M5.3 is exactly the camera I was looking for. Light, compact and full featured. Honestly, Olympus has packed an impressive number of features into this diminutive body. Functionally the equivalent of an EM-1.2. Olympus however did their customers a disservice. I'm not opposed to the polycarbonate body. It does have a plastic feeling but after using it for a while, it feels quite natural. The grip is adequate for a camara of this size. Th... Show More

First mirrorless

Jan 7, 2020

I'm an enthusiast level user for many years. This is my first mirrorless camera. Most recently I had been using Nikon, D750 and D7500 and various lenses, but I'm now in my late 7th decade and was looking for lighter weight, particularly traveling. This camera/ lens looked like the best match for my needs. In good light so far I find the jpegs out of the camera more than adequate for prints up to 14 x 17. Images at IS0 6400 are quite good, and th... Show More

Feb 22, 2020

I converted from a long-time Nikon user to the Mark 5 II 3 1/2 years ago. I loved that camera! But I developed a yen for the Pro Capture functionality and extra mp so I bought the 5 Mark III when it first shipped. Im over the moon! The auto focus is so fast its nearly undetectable. I paired it with the Oly 12-40 Pro. Sharp is an understatement. Some have complained about the plastic-y feel, not me! The camera feels great in my hands, solid. Oth... Show More

Excited!!

Feb 2, 2020

Just got back from NYC with my new M5 Mark III camera after trading in my M10 Mark III today. So excited, I unboxed, charging battery, already have the 14-150 lens and ready to go thru the menus to set the options. Had the M10 for the last two years after trading in a Nikon 750. Can't tell you how great it was to get rid of that ball and change that use to hang around my neck on vacation. Really enjoyed and took great European vacation pics with ... Show More

Additional Comments to My First Review-Richard

Dec 14, 2019

Several reviewers have complained about not receiving a printed manual that they can carry around. In addition to downloading the manual from the Olympus website you can put it on an iPhone if you install the Adobe Acrobat viewer App from the from the App Store. I have it on my iPhone 7 Plus and find It more convenient than carrying around a printed manual. FYI - a printed manual was included with the camera/lens combo I purchased. I have also noticed that the camera's performance at the highest ISO settings is noticeably improved.

This Mk 3 version of the E-M5 is a delight to use.

Dec 22, 2019

The Mk 3 provides an even more extensive set of customization options, with a 25% increase in image resolution. Having finally achieved sufficient knowledge of the Mk 2 that I could focus my attention on composition in stead of camera operation, I am a bit disappointed that so much of the user interface (dial and button locations, their functions, there independent options) has changed that I now have to learn the Mk 3 versions of the Mk 2 interface, an remember to consider which camera I have in my hand at any one time.

A very nice little camera for your consideration

Dec 8, 2019

This handy body offers so much of what Olympus's higher-priced OM-D bodies offer. It is light. It pairs well with the 12-200mm lens recently introduced by Olympus M.Zuiko ED 12-200mm F3.5-6.3. I agree with one of the other reviewer that Olympus should include a full copy of the camera body's 250-page manual. The one in the box is inadequate to the point of effectively being derisory. It surely would not erode Olympus's margin on this expensive body to include a full-up manual.

The power of a Mini M1 Mark II

Feb 17, 2020

Traded my M10 Mark III for the M5 Mark III and so glad I did. First time holding it I could feel the difference of the camera. Like the position of the controls and the quickness of the auto focus. After going thru the menus and setting the options I prefer, I went for a walk. The extra pixels was evident as much as the quick focus. This camera will suit my needs for quite awhile and am looking forward to this November in Munich with my new camera. Great job Olympus.

Great all around. Unique for eyeglass wearers.

Dec 6, 2019

The Mark III is improved in almost every respect from my Mark II. One aspect of the new camera that may be of limited interest to some but is crucial for others is the high eyepoint of the new viewfinder--27mm. I believe this is the highest of any camera now available. I can now see the entire frame with one head position for the first time. I even prefer the plastic body since it does not chill my right hand fingers and palm in cold weather.

Small high-performance leading edge camera

Mar 8, 2020

I got this for 2 reasons: 1) to convert to two-spectrum (infrared and visible), and as a second Olympus (in its visible band) along with my OMD EM1 II when I want two lenses/settings available when changing lenses isnt practical (salt spray, dust, rain). Ive been experimenting with several IR bands mostly, and the camera is effectively the same as my EM1 II, but a bit smaller, lighter, and lots cheaper. Im very happy with it.

Mostly Good. A few Querks

Dec 5, 2019

Olympus has made a very good camera. The promise of uncropped 4K video and excellent in-body stabilization holds true. Excellent image quality and okay autofocus. A few small Querks, like my photo style jumps back to Neutral after leaving camera off. Also the Olympus menus really are bad. Difficult to figure out what does what. Probably, wont be as complicated for Olympus users.

Mar 25, 2020

In the six years since I acquired the original E-M10 I have shot many thousands of excellent pictures. As I have accumulated eight lenses I have more coverage now than ever before. I also got more keepers out of the E-M10. On rare occasions the focus lock was off, though I would say many of those were because the focus rectangle had wandered.

Needs a printed manual

Dec 7, 2019

Looks like it will be a great little camera...once the ins and outs of it are figured out. Billed as a travel camera, the Olympus crowd should have understood that a printed full manual would have been of great use to people actually taking it into the field. Digital just doesn't cut it.
