Surprisingly capable macro lens

Jul 9, 2013

In terms of optical quality, the color rendition and contrast quality are pretty good displaying pleasing tones with a good transition The out of focus rendition, or bokeh, is good as well. Something Olympus does better at than Panasonic with their m4/3 lenses. As for autofocus, this was what, for me, made the lens much more enjoyable to use. I had previously used a fairly large 180/3.5 Macro with my DSLR set-up. Using it with macro lights and a ... Show More

Great macro lens

Jul 4, 2013

Great lens. Handles nicely, very sharp, great rendition. I do think Olympus should have included the hood instead of asking $ for it. Thus only 4 stars, but it's really a five star lens.

Excellent lens, rewards your practice

Jun 27, 2013

I have used this lens solely for macro work, because I have others which will work better for portraits. My past macro experience is limited to the Leica 100mm Macro Elmar, the Canon EF 100mm Macro, and the Oly 35mm 3.5 for 4/3 cameras. This lens is surely the equal of all of them. It is faster to focus than the older Oly, and sharper than the Canon. I actually like it better than the Leica, although there is little to choose between them in shar... Show More

Exceptional macro lens

Jun 26, 2013

Used for its primary purpose, macro-photography, or as a moderate telephoto in the larger world, the clarity and sharpness of images produced by this lens are extremely satisfying. Autofocus, also, is better than expected and the quick-set limit switch for 1:1 use is an unanticipated bonus. I knew it was there, just not how helpful it would be.

Incredible lens

Jun 25, 2013

I use this lens with my Olympus OM-D EM-5 camera. I purchased it for macro capabilities, & it is incredible. Being used to full frame professional equipment, I was a little pessimistic about a macro lens for this price. Wow, was I wrong. It took a little getting used to the quick adjustment to 1:1, but once I understood the language, it performs beautifully, & unbelievably sharp.

I love this lens. Having fun with it this spring. The pictures are great. The only complaint is the circular diaphragm used to control aperature is rather difficult to use, but I'm getting used to it.

This Lens Makes Me Look Really Good

May 29, 2013

This lens allows me to get wonderful flower shots. Before I got this lens for my Olympus micro 4/3 camera I had been using Tamron 90mm macro lens on my D7000. I am pleased with the result I am getting using this lens. It has become my new favorite. (Note I always use a lens hood which does not come with the lens.)

Very sharp lens!

May 15, 2013

I picked this up last week and have really fallen in love with this lens. It is very sharp. It is very small and exceptionally light. I also like the optional boyonet hood that Olympus milks its customers for. I like the focul range selector and the fact that the lens is weather/dust sealed. I have had some trouble focusing in 1:1 mode but thats not the fault of the lens per se. My only real complaint is that the autofocus is slow and results in ... Show More

Impressive Image Quality

May 10, 2013

This lens is a long and skinny, yet small and light weight as usual MFT lenses. A plastic casing doesn't feel too cheap on your hand, but still feels a bit too pricey for what it seems. In my opinion a hood should come with it. The image quality is pretty impressive and it is very sharp. Color may be a little flat. The quality of bokeh is good. It does an excellent job on macro shooting though it gets somewhat frustrating with manual focusing. A tripod may be required for 1:1 macro shooting especially with Panasonic cameras due to lack of image stabilizer.

Example of why MFT is so useful

Apr 30, 2013

Here I wish to make just two points. First, this is a pro quality lens that is very small and light for its capabilities. I can hang two EM5's around my neck, one with the 12-35mm and the other with this lens, and (1) they don't bang into each other and (2) my neck - not a big one - doesn't tire. Second, I have to say, spring for the Olympus lens hood. I'd thought a hood is just a commodity and started with the widespread knockoff. It was not mad... Show More

The Sharpest Lens I've Ever Owned!

Apr 18, 2013

I've shot with legendary Nikkor Micro lenses from the 105VR to the 70-180 Micro zoom and none of them have given me images the Olympus 60mm has. The 60 is not just sharp, it has fantastic contrast, perfect color reproduction and great autofocusing thanks to the dial on it's side. The 60 is tack sharp even in the far corners!

A great lens at a fair price

Mar 11, 2013

Reviews on line, have this lens as being good, or not so much, depending on who's reviewing it. For the money, it is a great lens and worthy of being in your camera bag. It focuses well, and photographs images in macro mode with ease. It is certainly on par with other Zuiko lenses. The quality and general versatility of this lens is far and above the price. I have many Panasonic and Olympus micro 4/3 lenses, and I like how well this fits into the photography I do. Of course, with all olympus lenses, I wish it came with a lens shade, which is important to keeep flare down.

Used on the Olympus E-M5;terrific macro lens for micro four-thirds. I don't have the Panny 45 mm but can't imagine that lens would be any sharper than the 60 mm. No IS for the 60 mm, no lens hood, and at this writing no micro four-thirds mount extension tube availability (you'll need an adaptor and four-thirds tube for that), but... ...a light, reasonably solidly built lens that will give you macro images that can be blown up to monstrous sizes w...
