The microphone is fantastic. I'm totally impressed with the clear robust sound. I've seen more expensive microphones of this type with far less quality. The ECM-CS3 has a good range, but yet does a fairly good job of blocking other sounds. When connected to my laptop or desktop via mic input - the audio sounds crystal clear and does a great job of filtering outside sounds. My only complaint is that this microphone did not work with my Zoom H2n. However, since the mic works elsewhere and offers clear sound, I'm giving it a high rating. I thought the mic was defective, but works fine with other devices including my * pocket Sony voice recorder. To confirm my H2n was working, I connected a powered lav on the H2n and it worked as usual. I also tested the ECM-CS3 on my Sony A57, which has auto attenuators, and it worked surprisingly well. ... I am a Certified Legal Court Videographer. For years, I was using the cache of Shure lav-mics I had purchased from a going out of business vid company. As they were broken, or otherwise in need of replacement, finding and purchasing the same high quality mics became an issue in time and money. While thumbing a B&H catalog, I saw this mic listed for$rather than the ten times plus amount I was paying. Knowing I would probably send it back for a refund, I ordered one with an XLR adapter. I now own 2 dozen of them and use at least 6 every day. They have clips attached and, for depositions, are as good as anything I have used. They are hotter than the Shures and I have only broken one channel on one mic in 2 years of use. Lawyers are not the most careful putting them on and off. The built-on clip is a huge plus. ... More

A really great lavaliere stereo microphone which i cannot recommend enough. I've bought this to use while shooting YouTube videos and i wanted something cheap which i could attach to any piece of clothing and boy was i surprised. The sound is crisp and clear without any muffled voices or sounds and it just sounds voice, however you need to put it right on the middle of where you're going to talk and not turn your head left or right as the channels will be lowered when you face away from that side. Either that or you can shoot straight up mono. The only thing i will complain about is the fact that the cable is short... I mean seriously it's extremely short and if you're going to use it with a DSLR or anything else other than a laptop then you will need a cable extension cord. ... More

I use the microphone clipped to my shirt while walking around various projects with a digital voice recorder strapped to my belt.Extremely responsive to my voice and never cuts out or distorts. Microphone part is permanently attached to clip so it NEVER comes off!Best design ever! No battery so never runs down or has parts that come loose.

I rate it 5* because I have no complain to this product and because I am beginner in audio recording, thus I have not tested higher valued similar products. As such ECM-CS3 works perfect for my jobs. Until now I used it as lavalier microphone coupled to my recently bought Sony PCM-M10 recorder. Crystal clear sound, almost inaudible background noise. Even the cable is finished as such to minimise noise caused by friction with clothes. This is normal, but less expected for a 20 USD priced microphone. Sound quality is somewhat better compared to the sound delivered by the build-in microphones of the PCM-M10, of course, for the purpose of an interview. I had in view also a Sony ECM-44BMP microphone, +100 USD value. I took my chance with ECM-CS3 and I am satisfied with it. ... More

Designed for devices with a phantom-powered stereo input, it works great on my computer and camcorder. A big improvement over built-in webcam and camcorder mics. The audio is clear and natural; has plenty of highs but isn't tinny. There isn't much stereo separation but that's to be expected as both opposing elements have an omni pattern. I like it: good sound; low price; no battery!

I did a youtube review of this vs the Azden EX 503 and also the Olymus ME15.The sony sounded great, and was the loudest of the bunch.Having a loud/sensitive microphone is beneficial, in that most recording devices have some amount of noise floor, often this noise floor is raised if you turn up the input gain on the recording device. The louder the mic, the less gain is needed.

Bought this to add an external microphone to my GoPro Hero 4 Silver, modified a GoPro housing to allow a GoPro 3.5mm Mic Adapter for HERO4 to plug in with the housing on and then used the Sony ECM-CS3 Tie Clip Microphone. This set up allows me to record sound that the camera would not pick up while in the housing.

When I need to record a meeting of several people this dual headed mic allows me to just set it in the middle of the action and hit the record button to pick up voices from all directions. No need to be constantly be pointing a uni-directional mic at the speaker, just pay attention to the content of the conversation.

The great thing about this lav is that it doesn't need tons of gain to get a decent level. When used on a Sony PCM-M10 this is a great affordable plug in power lav mic. As far as negatives the build doesn't inspire durability. It is all plastic and very light, don't use it outside either without some sort of wind protection, which it has none. I have noticed that the mic emphasizes the highs, but I find that doing some EQ helps for a smoother sound. I've used a Tascam 60D MKII with this mic and it works okay as I didn't have to use the highest gain setting on its 1/8 mic input. ... More

This little mic is the best! Very Clear cancels out background noise I expected it to pick up. Only thing I wish was that the cord was much longer as it is just too short if you'd like to be farther away from the camera. If you need a mic that has good quality for the price this is the one as long as you don't mind being close to the camera. I've recommended this mic to many of my colleagues who need the basics of better sound quality for their videos.

This little guy produces some great sound! Things definitely sound better in stereo! I paired this mic with my GoPro for action shots. One thing to consider is that wind noise will produce a lot of popping sounds. To get around this, get a deadcat (furry wind muffler) for it. I got some great outdoor audio after doing this! This mic is tiny but pulled in audio from far away. I remember talking to somebody from about 10 feet away and I could still hear them on the recording!

I use this with a Sony handycam cx430v, and it's better than all the other mics I've tried. The sound is nice and clear. Now I can narrate videos hands free! I use it with a Tascam DR05 digital recorder also. It is very sensitive and picks up ambient noises as well as my voice.

This little thing is the greatest, seriously. What a small, compact, great sounding stereo mic! I've used it for weddings and other events several times as a quick and easy vlogging mic. It's cheap, small, and great quality! I've purchased it multiple times and continue to point people to it. If I give it away to a vlogging missionary friend in need, I always buy another. You won't be disappointed.

Its a cheap and profesional microphone. works greatly with my 7D and with my android (with adapter) The cons is the color, if it were black would be much better and the plastic feel. Good value for the money.

We use lavalier microphones for linguistic interviews for research on dialects and speech. This microphone was good for the money but the professor preferred the ECM-CS10 for our specific needs. I'm not as technically informed as him, but I thought that this microphone worked well.

This little Sony Tie Clip Mic works great with my Tascam recorder. Great tone, loudness, etc. The only drawback I can see right now is that you really need to clip it on where no clothing will rub on it when the person is moving. Be sure it is on the VERY outside of the tie or lapel and that nothing will touch it.

The microphone works with what I need to plug it in to perfectly fine, and the recording quality is acceptable. It should be perfectly suitable with what I need it to do. The only issue I had was that it seemed to record things too quietly, but that should be adjustable with volume controls and speaking louder if needed.

This mike is a good deal for the money. It's sensitive, yet but in order to pick up the people talking over the ambient noise in the room , you must have the subject closer to the mike. Woks well when clipped to a someones tie or the like.

It works, but is highly susceptible to crackling and rustling sounds. The condenser mic on my digital device, on which I was hoping to improve by using this mic, does a much better job on its own. Planning on going to a brick and mortar store to try out some mics before buying another one.
