Make no mistake, this is no consumer dumbed down piece of equipment. My first impression of this camera was I now have to learn 130 menu items which is about double that of my old a7RII. of course such an expansion means more control and flexibility. And, Sony fixed everything most of us complained about, like longer battery life, twin SD cards, faster more accurate focusing, touch screen and several other features too numerous to list here. Since I just got my a7RIII, I really have not put it through its paces. From what I have done, it appears to take better videos and more accurate color on stills. It is well worth the upgrade from the II in my opinion. ... More

Switch from a top end well known brand that shall remain nameless and am totally satisfied. No adaptors for me; sold all my N equipment. The menu was mind boggling at first but I adapted quickly after watching a ton of tutorials. It took a while before I lost my muscle memory that went back about 15 years. Just about every button can be matched with the feature of your preferences. This camera is so customizable. I also took this opportunity to fine tune and limit my lens selection going with all Sony G & GM lenses. Image quality is outstanding and in my opinion better than its chief DSLR rival, even though the pixel count is slightly less. Eye focus and silent shooting work without conditions. Seeing your image before you take it...what could be better. ... More

I've been a photographer for almost two decades. My camera system has evolved from medium format film to 35mm film and into the digital world with Canon and yet to discover that Nikon was my favorite of all. Sony has revolutionized photography with the A7r2 yet this A7r3 just makes everything so much faster and a better camera body. I would of loved to see the silent shooting improve without any lines or loss of quality but maybe in the A7r4? A7r3 behaves just like my Nikon D4s and that is saying a lot because my D4s is a fast camera. Image quality of the Sony a7r3 is fantastic and it never disappoints. In my own opinion The Sony Alpha a7r3 is the best all around camera anyone can buy and use for all range photography ( yes even sports ) ... More

I've been shooting with this for a few weeks, both stills and video. I love all this camera can do. The still image files have a depth I don't get from my Canon 5D Mk3. Only drawback, and this is small and typical of mirrorless cameras, is the dust that can collect on the sensor. Not a big deal for stills, but a big deal for video. I have to clean it before every outing.

Made the leap from Canon 5D MkIII to the Sony. While I really appreciate the build quality, interface (20+ year Canon file SLR and DSLR user), and features of the 5D-iii, the superior image quality with the Sony is amazing. I currently use Sigma 24-105 f4.0, Canon 70-200 f4 L IS, and Canon 17-40 f4 L lenses, with Sigma MC-11 adapter. These lenses have delivered higher image quality than I had previously experienced. With the Sigma adapter, the overall package, while ~3 ounces lighter than the Canon, is a bit harder to balance, but otherwise it is more-compact in terms of being able to fit into a camera-bag insert in a backpack. With Sony lenses this would be less of an issue (saving for 16-35 and 90mm macro). Highly recommended, but be prepared to spend a lot of time dialing in menu and feature settings to suit your needs/style. It is worth the effort! ... More

I had actually dislocated my shoulder at an air show with my Nikon D800/70-200 combination and was looking for something lighter but of equal quality to replace it. Enter the Sony A7RII. I was satisfied with the Sony on so many levels, but the slow autofocus caused me to miss many a shot. When I read that the A7RIII had inherited the Sony A9's blazing autofocus, I became interested. Once I started using it, I found that the RIII's shutter is much improved as well: instead of the leisurely kaa-chunk, it's like chkkk! Also, its photos seem richer than the RII's images, but that might be my imagination. In any case, the exposure is much more accurate, meaning less time in Photoshop. I've only had this camera for two weeks, but I'm very happy with it and plan to take it to India with me in January. ... More

I have been a loyal Canon fan since the late 1970s. I was considering upgrading to the Mark 5D IV. A friend asked me to look at this camera as a better choice. Once I saw that some of the canon lenses can be adapted for use with this camera I was sold. The specifications clobber both Canon and Nikon. Once I got it in my hands I knew I was a winner. Burst speed, High ISO performance, fast focus, image quality, .... This is a camera that has worked will in my hands. Recommend buy a second battery and High speed card to get the most out of it. I have done a number of head to head tests with this camera verse Mark 5Diii. Clear winner by a long shot. I am glad I made the choice to change brands. My new go to camera ... More

Along with the camera, I bought the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 Standard lens. (B&H didn't have the lenses in stock I wanted.) I thought maybe the lens wouldn't be as awesome as the G/GM series, but it blows me away on this 42mp resolution and 5 axis OSS camera. I NEED OSS. I like macro and close up photos and being able to crop down the photos (even with this less than $300 standard lens) is just awesome. I also have a A6000 since 2014, so I know the Menu can be daunting, but with anything else, I'll learn it. It's a little bigger and more buttons, and the bigger battery lasts a long time. I've had the initial battery charge in the camera since I received it 7/2/20.. it's on 15% right now! I'm glad Sony put the bigger batteries in all their newer cameras. Helps a lot. I'm very pleased with my purchase.... I got it on sale.. even better! It's not the latest/greatest, but I think I'll be using it for a long time. The bag is a awesome add on, as was the extra battery. Not a Sony battery, but I'll keep it for a back up, just in case. If you're thinking you might like a A7RIII, don't hesitate... go for it. I have been through a bunch of still cameras. Recently the Canon line of 5DMK2,3, then 1DX, recently the Olympus OMD EM1, and now the Sony A7R3. The Sony A7R3 is the best still camera I have owned by a long shot. it is easy to use. Don't believe all the complaints about the menu, they need to become better camera operators. There is a My Menu that you can set up and a bunch of custom buttons, I can switch from Landscape to Sports, to street photog in seconds. The resolution is stunning. It will show any mistake so attention to detail is very important at 42MP. The G-Master 24-70 f/2.8 is excellent lens. Again the best lens I have owned and blows the stocks off all the Canon glass I have used. Olympus glass was amazing but only micro 4/3. If you are looking for a top of the line, newest technology still camera this is it. It do not use this for video, for video I use 10-bit film cameras. Top rating of anything I have purchased from B&H in the last 20 years. ... More

As others have mentioned, image quality quite similar to the A7R II but function and form is much faster and improved. Battery life is also greatly improved. Immediately I added the RRS bottom plate and just adds so much improvement to the ergonomics for my hand. The buttons and wheels feel firmer than the A7R II. While the A7R II is an excellent camera the A7R III advanced but bettering the weak points of the former. For many though the weak points of the A7R II will be irrelevant and will be a fantastic option.

I've shot Canon for the last twelve years. Still own seven Canon mount lenses, speedlights a waterhousing and a bunch of other Canon related gear. This is my first full sized Sony (loved my RX100's). I shot family portraits and a studio video so far. Everything is in a different place but it was all easy to figure out and already have made big improvements. Purchased a gmaster 24-70 f2.8, gmaster 70-200 f2.8 and a Sony 12-24 f4. The new larger battery is about the size of Canon's 7Dii/5Diii battery but seems to charge a bit slower? The fit and finish of the camera body seems amazing but the feel of the buttons is (IMO) not quite a nice as Canon. I hope to weatherproofing is as good but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a little off. The small size was no factor at all, I think it's a bad move to make these bodies so small, the one factor I'm missing the most is the larger size and feel of my Canon bodies. ... More

Sony fixed a laundry list of issues that plagued the a7R ii (ie: battery life, slow write speed, finicky eye AF, etc) What still needs fixing: AWB (not reliable, needs to be set manually), unnatural colors at times (usually due to incorrect AWB), menu has poor UI/UX, keep photo and video settings saved separately so when you toggle between modes you do not need to change all your settings

I took pictures for the 55wkrc Listener Lunch yesterday. I hardly know my camera. I put it on face recognition and program and JPG very fine quality. I took pictures inside a restaurant with no flash. I took candid photos while 'shooting from the hip'. The autofocus would focus perfectly in, I'm going to say, 1/10 of a second. The resulting candid and posed photographs are beautiful with incredible detail. The huge file sizes run between 20 and 34MB. I'm thinking out loud if the new Sony a6600 with the APS-C sized sensor might be a better choice for candid picture taking because the camera would be much smaller in physical size. I haven't owned a digital camera of any size for over 10 years. The last camera of any capability that I had was a little Pentax 35MM film camera that I owned back in the 80s. I don't regret the money I spent on this camera. Not one little bit. I'm overwhelmed. I wasn't expecting the capabilities of this camera or the results I've gotten.
