It's a good value for money!

I haven't gone all OCD on it like I tend to do with new purchases. I just downloaded and installed the driver, and plugged the unit in my Windows 10 laptop's USB-C port with the included cable; it also includes an A to C cable for those who lack a USB-C port. The headphone outputs have good power and clarity for enjoying music. I really liked how it sounded with my CEntrance Cerene dB headphones. I forgot to test my beyerdynamic Amiron home. If you don't have a dedicated DAC/headphone amp combo, which I also do, this unit can properly serve audiophilic duties. Input-wise, the mic pre-amps have plenty of gain and headroom, and have negligible self-noise. The Legacy 4K mode is legit and makes a noticeable difference. I used a TZA Stellar X2 condenser mic and it sounds so good with this unit. My voice sounds clear and real with no harshness. I haven't really analyzed the round-trip latency in depth, but at 256 samples, I could monitor my voice in real time in Ableton Live while recording and there was no noticeable, distracting lag. The unit looks and feels nice, and best of all, all the knobs feel good in the fingers when turning, and lack any wobble. I didn't test the MIDI ports, but I plan to do so. I'm impressed with the SSL 2 . I just unboxed it, installed the drivers, plugged it in and did my thing. No fuss and no funky business. IT JUST WORKED AND GOT OUT OF THE WAY. The experience with the SSL 2 feels to me like using an Apple product, software and hardware working transparently as one. I highly recommend it. The fact that AC power isn't needed to use the phantom power as with my Audient iD14 is to me a bonus. I got this unit to replace the Audient, which I accidentally killed by plugging my BLA Auteur MK II's adapter to it. I wasn't paying attention and it fit perfectly. There's always a first time, heh! An SSL gear on my desk at home, who would have believed ... Still, a cheap product from a company like SSL, it's not something that happens much, but it did very well for her. A high quality audio interface that surprised me with the sound, especially acoustic guitar and vocals. The 4K button will give your recording a pre-emulation of SSL 4000 series, that really sounds good, no gimick here. This thing is really great. Pro sound, portable, solid build quality. The headphone pre-amps sound excellent; enough gain for most demanding over-ear headphones, and more than enough for anything else. The SSL2+ has enough +48v current draw for more demanding mics. There is no audible self noise even with the gain maxed with ribbons, and it picks up every nuance of any good condenser mic. 4K mode sounds very good: Very useful for a quick vocal enhancement: maybe not quite as subtle or nuanced as the transformer mojo of a Focusrite ISA1, not sure how the 4K will hold up with subsequent processing: Haven't had the time to explore 4K much yet. Monitoring latency is not an issue, SSL 2+ handles the lowest levels. This gear is quick and easy to set up and is powered just by USB. We received an SSL 2+ at our university to test and review. When it came my turn, I was immediately impressed with the overall sound and functionality. I grew up on SSL consoles and it was great to hear anything close to that original sound. The mic preamps are very smooth and do not have any obvious jumps in signal when adjusting the gain like some other interfaces. The 4K buttons add a very noticeable top end and clarity that really enhances the input signal. Having 2 headphones outs is ideal. I chose the 2+ for the MIDI IN/OUT also. I have an older M-Audio Keystation Pro that no longer worked using the USB connection. Connecting to the MIDI IN/OUT on the 2+ has brought it back to life. I am also very, very happy with the tabletop design. It does not take up much room on my desk and provides all of the functionality that I require. Overall, I am highly impressed with the unit, use it everyday, and will continue doing so. Thanks, B&H, for your customer service. Almost perfect for the price

I bought this for use with my ipad for portable recording. I use it mainly for vocals (singing and voice over work.) It replaces a focusrite 2i2. I have a larger focusrite interface in my studio. The main selling point was the low noise floor. The preamps sound good and the a/d conversion sounds better than the focusrite. Surprisingly the 4K switch actually adds upper eq boost along with harmonics that is very pleasing versus just a gimmicky eq boost. The negative side is the mix control to switch between input and usb needs a lot of work. The input side volume is super low compared to the usb side and a mix of the two leaves a lot to be desired. This unit also struggles with low ohms headphones. They are too quiet for me and do not provide enough gain in combination with the mix knob. Apart from that, for the price it is an awesome unit. Nice preamps - not truly 4 out

The sound quality is great on this and the preamps are fantastic. The 4K button is also really really nice. If you are needing a true 4-out interface then move on unless all you need is an extra duplicate output. I got this specifically for the 4 outs so that I could use outboard gear (effects processors) to add effects to select pre recorded stereo tracks and record back while hearing the main mix. Because of their "latency" free technology attempting to do this simple task caused unwanted feedback and strage gain staging issues. I contacted SSL and after a very long time they basically admitted that it is a design flaw. I had to send this back and got a MOTU M4 instead which is a true 4-out interface. If you do not need the 4 outs then the SSL2 (not the plus version) would probably be great. The preamps and 4k sound great. Just not truly 4 - out. ... More

Pros: - lightweight and portable/compact - enough power for good mics even over 5V USB - Native Instruments plugins are great - efficient use of internal space and I/O design gives a whopping 4 outputs and MIDI in/out in a pretty small package, all over USB. Cons: - a little plastic-y for $300 (esp the knobs) - channel control buttons are hard to confirm if they’re on or off at a glance since they don’t lower very much when toggled. - included usb cables are short and of mediocre quality (not surprisingly)

I found a USB interface shootout online, and listened to the recorded samples for multiple units. I really liked the sound of this SSL and had heard good things about the Black Lion Audio Revolution, so I ordered them both to compare. I ended up preferring the sound of the SSL. The Black Lion sounded oversaturated to me while the SSL was more my style: an honest sound, without being clinical. I like it without the 4k setting, but that's a nice option to have, and the RCA outputs are actually perfect for my amp/monitor setup. The pre-amp gain is clean, though I add a Cloudlifter between my sE ribbon mic and the interface. My Senn mics sounded great through the SSL too. Finally, I love that there are two headphone outs! I'm using this mainly to get high quality audio output from my computer to my high-end stereo. Overall, the sound is excellent. Especially the clarity and detail in the high end. The bass is just slightly less tight than the output from my CD player, but quite acceptable. I suspect even that would not be an issue with the balanced outputs. Connecting two Rode NT1A large condenser mics in a stereo pair results in a very high quality recording with a low noise floor, as you might expect from a company like SSL. You can also record one mic for vocals and a direct input from a guitar. Supposedly the channel 3/4 output lets you create a custom headphone mix when doing multitrack recording. I couldn't see how to do that in the DAW software I'm using (Audacity on Windows). ... More

I bought this for recording voiceovers for a video series that I'm creating. I needed something that was easily incorporated into my system and not take up a lot of real estate, yet still producing professional results. After a lot of research, I chose this interface. Replaced my 68c Persons for the SSL 2+. Great analog sound and great A/D converters. I would recommend the 2+ above the basic SSL 2, due to the dual headphone outs as well as the midi in/outs. Also comes with a wealth of SSL Plugins. You really can't beat this interface for the value. Next level up would be an Apollo in my opinion.

This interface is pretty amazing. The clarity is amazing and I can get away with 16 buffer samples with virtually no monitor lag on vocal recordings or other instrument recordings. I can also throw on some reverb or other effects without getting that robotic sound that comes from latency. I'm very pleased with the cost, the look, and the most importantly, the sound!

so far this interface has been excellent, as well as the bundled software... it's clarity and head room is huge enhancment of my recordings (mostly music of a huge range of genres). a side bonus , it's a very flexible soundcard for when i watch streaming shows.

Amazing sound! Works well on Linux; however, the majority of free software is just for Windows or Mac. I'm currently using it with Harrison MixBus v6 and work like a charm. Excellent AD converters and the 4k button adds a remarkable hi-end characteristic. You can go wrong with this SSL gear. SSL, please, add official support for Linux, we are a vast community.

This is the nicest audio interface that I have ever owned. I shouldn't be surprised because I grew up on a SSL 4000G+ and have used every SSL console made after that. This is plug and play which is very hard to get these days. Combine this with the plugins as I have done and there you have it! SSL in a box which actually does sound like vintage components. I am very happy with this purchase.

I mainly track vocals and that 4K magic is worth the price of admission. Conversion quality is no different than the Apollo so I love having this in its place. It's super versatile, two headphone outs, enough outputs on the back to choose from and midi ins and outs for $299, are you kidding me? It also comes with killer plug ins!
