I am an audio producer who produces podcast and radio shows daily. I bought the Shure X2u so that I could record to my laptop in the field. This device fits the bill for me: excellent sound quality, solid construction and great portability, at a reasonable price. I wanted to address one comment I have heard about this device in web forums: that it produces hum. I had this problem initially, and when I contacted Shure they quickly assisted me in properly configuring my recording software. That solved the problem and I'm very happy with my purchase.

We use three of these in our simulation control room connected to SHUR MX412DC Desktop Microphones. The ability to adjust the volume on this unit has made the microphone perfect for our needs by virtually eliminating ambient noise. This is essential when running our simulations and trying to maintain simulation fidelity.

I've been using this device for amount 3-weeks and I can say that it does well what it's designed to do. The device is very well made and easy to set up. The feed-through slots in the back are quite handy to Velcro onto the base of my boom riser. The controls are 'fairly' well placed with the exception of the phantom power switch that is easily engaged by accident when adjusting the monitor thumbwheel. Overall, I would buy it again and I wholeheartedly recommend it for those that need such a device.

I got this product to do voice over work for my own company. The XM58 microphone has been around for a long time, and there's a good reason for that . . . it's awesome! The Shure X2u USB adapter gives you the advantage of being able to plug in any XLR dynamic or phantom powered microphone directly into the USB port on any Apple or PC computer. Drivers are installed automatically. Just go to your favourite audio recording application and you're in show business. I like to use Quicktime Pro 7. BTW, get the stand too, hand held recordings sound like it. ... More

I use this product to record voice-overs on a MacBook Pro Retina using the Avid Media Composer 7.0 program. It's a great product because I don't need anything else but my old Shure SM58 microphone - just plug it into the adapter 3 prong end and plug the other adapter end into the USB port. You're ready to go. It sounds great. I highly recommend it for this application.

I use this project for exactly what it is, an XLR to USB adapter. I am currently laying a voice over track on a documentary using the adapter with my phantom powered microphone. The adapter converts from XLR to USB and hooks right into my Mac. This device is extremely sturdy, has a headset jack, mic gain control, volume control, and monitor control. The one thing that I would love to have added is a meter aside the gain control, however this is not something that detracts from the quality of this device at all. Great purchase.

Use these at school and at home for voice over mic hookups. I run Shure condenser mics with this hookup for vocals and straight voiceover. The sound is crystal clear. The xtra functions for head phone set ups are handy and the ability to travel with this light weight set up is a bonus. I pack this with all my mic gear and is the perfect compliment for my macbook pro for live shoot and edit sessions.

I needed a good mike to record voice tracks for our puppet ministry group. I'm using a Cakewalk program and was looking for something that would make less backround noise than tapping into our church mixer. Setup was so easy that even a pastor can make it work! The adaptor's headphone monitor is also a nice option.

I figure out the turning my sound card input gain structure down almost all the way and hitting the preamp as hard as I could gave the best signal to noise ratio. You can listen to it here:@

I needed a preamp for a nice quality condenser mic to do narration and this works perfectly. Plus it allows me to plug it directly into my MacBook Pro which automatically recognizes it. Also the build quality is much better than I expected. Overall works exactly as described.

Not many companies can boast they have an iconic product like the SM58 but SHURE is in that very position. Now let me start by saying that the SM58 doesn't hold a candle in terms of sound quality to anything $ and above but what you lose in quality you earn in build quality. This thing could be made from the metals of a tank for all I know. The X2U is also a thing of beauty but you won't get much use of it unless you don't have a mixer or audio interface that is phantom powered.

I have been looking for a low cost amp system alternative for our senior citizens meeting. Some seniors have a hard time hearing. The adaptor along with the Sure mic. is perfect for us and also gives us the option to record special, interesting speakers. John

The shure xlr to usb adapter was exactly what I needed to use my condenser mic with my computer. I do a lot of skype calls and interviews via skype and needed to use my existing high quality condenser mic. This worked exactly as it was described. No issues and I got great fast service.

I use the Shure X2U to create personal audio recordings with a condenser microphone. The qualities I admire about this product include its portability, quality of build and ease of use. In particular, this product is supported by plug-and-play for Windows and Linux. Areas where this product can be improved include the reduction of noise captured and visual indicators for each of the adjustment wheels.

Great 58 microphone, but the in-line amp creates background hiss. I've tried different setups, other computers, and different recording software. Used other similar products and didn't have the hiss.
