I have been using these as a touring live soundman/recording engineer since 1972. Simply excellent. With the Shure A2WS windscreen they are my first choice for male vocals. i am primarily an onstage monitor mixer and the SM57 rings out beautifully. For my entire, and very long, touring life with Robert Gordon it was the only vocal mic we used. Not recommended as a top mic on snare drums. It sounds great, but the drummers hit them and break the front off.

I use this as a voiceover mic when on the road and not in the studio. Run it through a Tascam US-200 and then to my laptop via USB. It's built like a tank and a great full-bodied sound with good proximity and excellent off-axis attenuation. Love this mic...and for the bucks, love it even more! You can't go wrong!

This is a solid microphone starter kit at a bargain price. The microphone is a quality workhorse, as expected from Shure. The stand and the cable do their job well. The only caveat is the kit content is not flexible - my application needed an XLR female to 3.5mm cable rather than the cable supplied with the kit. I had to order the additional cable separately, but I would have much preferred to be able to substitute the cable in the package with a different type.

Excellent mic. It’s my 3rd SM 57 and great on guitar cabinets, snare, and some vocals. Works well on everything else, especially through a good pre. Surprisingly good on drums.

we use a set of 7 of these about once a week for jazz band. they are often thrown around and get beat over and over again. they have withheld everything we throw at them. this also includes going out in the rain durring marching season and will often get dropped off of carts onto concrete and in all the years we have only had a problem with one. very pleased with the reliability and durrability of these mics

The SM57 and 58 are hands down the best microphone for any level of skill. The SM57 is ideally used for instrument mic'ing, but you can also use it for vocals, and even is a little louder than the 58 for vocals (a good and a bad thing). They also never die, so even a used one is still a great find. No matter how many scratches or dents it has, it's still going to sound better than any other dynamic mic out there.

The SM57 is a workhorse in the music industry and for good reason. This mic has been the best for decades and it still is going strong as being one of the best in reliability and performance. It is still very affordable which seems to be incredible. This cost the same as it did 10 years ago. I am using mine for recording guitar through an amplifier and it is excellent. I would not consider any other mic for this job.

The SM57 is the most versatile mic I have ever used. I have used it for everything from vocals, to guitar cabs, to kick drums, both recorded and live. This mic takes a beating and keeps on working day in and day out. If you playing in a band and getting ready to play out I suggest at least half a dozen sm57s and a few 58s for vocals. They cost more than some mics, but try one and feels its weight in your hand you will understand the true value lies in this classic shure.

I'm a newcomer when it comes to home recording, so I didn't know what a good microphone would be good guitar amps. So I did some online research and narrowed it down to this and the Sennheiser e609. I went to my local Guitar Center to see which ones they had. Turns out, they only had the SM-57, so I thought I would just buy that one. I took it home and plugged it in to my Mbox system and recorded my Blues Junior. The recording sounded just like what I hear while recording. I could not be happier!

After using others' SM57s for years in live sound and audio recording settings (for trombone, bass, and vocals), I picked up this performance package so that I could have one of my own. The package delivers exactly as advertised. The stand adjusts easily, the included cable is versatile at 20', and it's clear why so many describe the SM57 as the industry standard. Looking forward to many years with this great setup.

The Shure SM57 microphone is the most widely used microphone for instruments and amps in any situation. Great for up close mic'ing for guitar cabinets and drums, but also can be used as a vocal mic with great results. The SM57 is a workhorse and built to hold up over years and years of constant use. It's simple to set up for live or recording use and so easy to afford. Every studio and venue uses these mics.

This is the microphone used in just about any studio in the world for recording snare, guitar cab, and any other number of things. This is mainly because it works great, sounds great, and just about indestructible. I've used this on many different things, though you probably wouldn't want to use it on vocals unless performing live.

This is one of my preferred options for voice work, especially for YouTube video narration. Quick to set up on my desk -- put it in a Shure A55M, slip on a good foam windscreen and you are good to go. My PreSonus Studio 26 interface has enough gain to drive this (and sometimes I use my FetHead anyway). If yours does not, a FetHead will fix that just make sure you get the version that does not feed phantom power to the mic.

Now I know why this mic is called one of the most versatile mics. This mic is great in both live and studio applications. I have recorded electric and acoustic guitar, saxophone, vocals, snare, and hi-hat with great results. I love it when positioned facing the 12th fret of an acoustic guitar and blended with a large diaphragm condenser at the soundhole - the best acoustic sound! No better mic for the money - add one (or three) to your collection.

Provides excellent performance at a reasonable price. We use it to record my son's trombone auditions using a TASCAM DR-40 digital recorder. Easy to use and connect. Good performance and robust construction.

This is an exceptional microphone for the kit. In terms of bang for the buck it may be a best value. Good for vocals and instruments. It has been around for awhile. Works well for vocals and recording instruments. Considering the price, every audio kit should have one.

What more can be said about this little guy? It's THE industry standard, hands down, this microphone is durable as all get out, and sounds crisp and clear, use it in almost any setting, guitars drums and in a pinch, vocals. Live, it cuts basically all feed back from front facing monitors, reasonably priced, buy at least one if you want to do ANYTHING in recording/production, heck buy 3 or 4!
