This microphone came highly recommended. I need something for a FB live stream and the microphone and I'm glad I jumped. You need this version (video kit) of you want to record and stream. I found this out after I purchased this one as the cheaper microphone only version was sold out. I'm a musician and I got tons of compliments on the sound. I have a recording studio and really wanted to use my more expensive microphones but was not able to because I had to use either my iPhone or iPad for streaming because of the camera angle I needed. A computer would not have worked for my purposes. I have since also recorded a video and again the sound is surprisingly good. The only bummer is that you cannot use this mic for Zoom or FaceTime. This is not the fault of Shure. It's because iOS (phones and iPads don't have the software because APPLE has not updated the software to choose on board mics for these applications. I believe however, you would be able to use this mic for Zoom and FaceTime on your computer. I have not tried that yet so I can not verify. If my information is wrong please correct me but my internet searches seem to corroborate what I have said. The tripod seems well built but I cannot get the ball head to tilt. If it would tilt it would be infinitely more useful. The other accessories are useful and the roll up bag is appreciated. You will be able to charge your device and use this microphone if you use the Apple USB to lightning camera adapter. You can find this info on the Shure website. I followed the directions and it works. Great job Shure and Apple, please update the iOS! ... More

This has typical very high quality from Shure. It comes with a Manfrotto mic which is extremely stable and reliable. The clamp for your phone fits anything I can imagine short of a larger tablet. The quality of the mic is superb Shure quality. When plugged into my Samsung Galaxy S8, you have to use the headphone jack on the back of the mic, thats just how it works, which is fine. They tell you that in the instructions. For outdoor recording on a windy day, the supplied windscreen works very well except when in direct wind that feels like a gust. So Im looking to see if the Rycote dead cat windscreen for the MV88 fits this mic. If so, Ill just get that. Overall, I really like this. Its a fantastic alternative to carrying around a Zoom H6, which is what I normally record my podcasts with. For running and gunning, it takes up almost no room in your bag. The stereo separation is mappable via the free Motiv app and very noticeable. Ill definitely be using this more in the field as a way of recording audio during non-productions every day situations. ... More

I've owned the lightning MV88 in the past and now the MV88+ (it was on sale and couldn't pass it up). I won't go into all the details because you probably know them all by now, but I'll mention a few things. First, it's beefier than the MV88 Lightning version. Getting it into the clamp is a bit of a tight fit so not sure how many times you want to be taking it in and out, or how long before the the clamp may last until it one day breaks. Shure however does sell a replacement if needed, but it seems fairly sturdy. Good sounding mic and I use the app software up to a point, but further refinements in post helps. On my iPhone 11, recording at 4K / 30, the phone battery will last abut 2 and half to just under three hours using the mic. So if you have some long extended recording (a music concert etc) just be aware. There's workarounds with that since you can hook up a battery and use the apple camera connector dongle (the usb/lightning one) and power the iPhone for as long as you have storage, if needed. With the recent iPhones having MagSafe, my concern is about future proofing. Will future iPhones have a port AT ALL? I bought the MV88+ thinking the IPhone may move to USB-C (a cable is provided with the MV) but now the tea leaves seem to read that USB-C, or any port, may not be in Apples future. So how will I connect the MV88+? For now though, its fine and I'm happy with the purchase. If you're thinking about 5 years down the line though, the future is uncertain. ... More

We run a professional television studio where clients occasionally require teleprompter service. The teleprompter software we use is PromptSmart Pro (Ver. 2.1.3) with VoiceTrack auto-scrolling on a 10.2 in. 7th Gen iPad. The Prompt Smart voice recognition works best with an external mic. After researching many mics for this application, we chose the Shure MV88+ for its outstanding quality and features. The MV88+ mic and app are well made and easy to use. It allows you to choose and adjust various electronic performance attributes to suit the environment of your shoot. Though we were looking at less expensive mics in this class, you get what you pay for, and in my opinion the value of this microphone exceeds its price. Last week, at the end of a full-day production, the Creative Director for the production team came to me and said, "The teleprompter has made all the difference in taking the stress out of our production. It has performed flawlessly." I highly recommend this the Shure MV88+ for tablet or phone recording and/or voice- activated teleprompting. We are considering buying a second Shure MV88+ for use with two camera teleprompter productions because both teleprompters will track the talent's voice simultaneously. ... More

I'm willing to admit my problems with this could be user error, but 1) it's confusing when the Motiv audio & video apps open with a "Shure MV88+ Virtual Device" and all the detailed controls are accessible; 2) but once the mic is plugged (and green light is on), all those controls vanish and cannot be found. Then I notice that, unlike what's presented in the manual, the app "sees" the microphone simply as "External Microphone." Options to change polar pattern, compression, or EQ are gone. Yes, I've tried unplugging the mic and plugging it back in, but nothing changes. This happens on my iPhone XS and 2020 iPad Pro. If the fix is simple, than finding the fix should be simple. The microphone works and is probably great. I bought this for some streaming performances I have, but have now wasted too much time testing it. For me, it has not been "plug and play." It's not simply the disconnect between every video about this I've seen (and what I expected after reading the manual) and my initial experiences, but good software design helps users understand what's not working and why. I'm sure I'll use the microphone with other apps, but this has not been a 5 star experience. N.B. This review is not intended to reflect poorly on B&H, which has always been great. ... More

The quality of the recording is pretty good and you can definitely tell the difference when put side-by-side with your phone's native recording. It's a bit annoying that you have to purchase the entire kit in order to get the microphone, as aside from the tripod the quality of the accessories leave something to be desired - the foam wind screen came unglued within 2 weeks of me very lightly using the device and Shure support won't honor the warranty for accessories, which seems silly considering the price of the whole kit. Another big problem is that there isn't a shock mount, just a fixed one, meaning that unless you adjust the EQ or high pass filter, you'll likely get a lot of thumps when using handheld. There doesn't seem to be a shock mount available for purchasing, either, so until I find one I'll be pretty much limited to static videography. If you'll be doing more run-and-gun videography, you might want to consider one of the many other options that do include a shock mount standard. Aside from these issues, though, it's a great and very portable little system. ... More

I whole heartedly recommend this Mic. Great at a rock concert setting as it handles high volumes really well. One thing that strikes me the most is the dynamic range. I used it to record performances of Phil Collins at Madison Square Garden (from a considerable distance) and then for Steve Hackett in March of last year just before the co vid shutdown. Steve Hackett was extra special because I was in the front row and the MV88+ combined with my iPhone 11 Pro Max produced a glorious sound mix - and the drums came across with aplomb. Search me on YT and you can hear for yourself just how great sound can be on a simple iPhone. Do be careful with the cables though. Recording handheld for an extended period made my hand rub up against the Lightning cord where it enters the iPhone and I did lose audio from the Shure MV88 from time to time (getting a spare cable may make some sense as I already switched out the original). Lastly I would add that purchasing from B&H is a no brainer, especially at the current discounted price (and if you don't have PayBoo, what are you waiting for!) ... More

At first I was not getting any sound through the head phones and after speaking with support I realized that I had not entered the correct headphone settings...now this is one happy camper...watch out world here I come!!! Also, when you get yours the tripod is a little tricky, the button on the tripod head allows you to adjust the head!!! And, the apps are really great in controlling the mics pickup patterns. Pickup patterns are really important to now when considering mics and what type of coverage they are capable of...but, now I have all in one mic for my interviews!!! ... More

The church I serve as communications director has found itself in the position of needing staff to record a large volume of material independently so that we can take advantage of reaching our people online (particularly out of the COVID crisis). iPhones do great for video, but as you know, the audio is adequate at best. Frankly, we weren't that impressed with this mic when we saw it online, but it came highly recommended. We tried one, and we've been blown away by how well it works. The Shure MV88+ does a terrific job of isolating the wanted audio, and giving us a clear, highly audible audio track to use with very limited artifacts. The apps are great as well - even if you use an iPhone, we recommend using the MOTIV video app. The functionality and ease of use is perfect for a novice staff, and they have quickly fallen in love with this mic. The deadcat filter does a tremendous job in windy, outdoor settings. I highly recommend this mic for use with your iPhone video. ... More

Bought it a week ago, it works well, I like the sound from it, and that is enough for me. I love to take it and walk around, recording some interesting sound in my life. I think the price is a bit high, hope the kit thing could be an option instead of something you have to take, cuz I don't really need all of it. It is a waste of all these cables. The Shure Motiv Video app adds several nice to have features for both video and audio. I'm using this for live music video/audio and so far it's been perfect for my needs. Stereo, adjustable pickup patterns, adjustable gain, 120dB max SPL. There are only very minor issues that I have noticed; When you let go of the lock button, it moves very slightly; little difficult to level to the horizon if you need to in a hurry. It also sucks battery. ... More

I knew this was good for vocals and acoustic guitars, but I was amazed to hear how good the bass and kick drum came out in recordings with this. It really is a handy kit to have; great for band practice or quickie YouTube videos. I've tried several different mini-stands and this Manfrotto is easily my favorite, both for stability and ease of use. Ditto the clamp. The basic foam windscreen is probably most valuable for it's protective ability, while the dead cat is a must for outdoor recordings. And with the adapter for USB-C we iPhone people don't need to worry about it becoming obsolete. ... More

I would recommend buying individual component parts for a better solution. The logod tilt knob broke and the logo popped off. The mobile device mount/rig is made of plastic and the knob that tightens the adjustable setting is plastic and not substantial. The tripod is the cheapest/smallest Shure tripod. Was looking for something for recording trumpet practice sessions and the occasional song or two without having to pull out and set up some nicer equipment with the computer. This plugs into my Google Pixel 5 with USB-C, then you use the Shure mic app to set your settings on the microphone. I turn the gain down a bit from default as I'm recording trumpet, but it works out pretty nice, and I could potentially take it anywhere.
