This mic caught my eye immediately when I saw it because of it's long history of being in the professional sound scene. Just like the one Elvis used, only this one is revamped with modern technology and sounds much more powerful! It is not made to get too close, or you will get much "boom" or "pop" when popping your P's. Just stay back about two inches and let this powerhouse do all the work! Mic housing is superbly made to last a very long time. An excellent choice!

OK I bought this mic because of the look. I love it. However one of my boom mic stands has a connection point that interferes with the xlr connection on the mic. When I first used it I wanted to get close to the mic like I'd seen other performers, but this mic pops really bad. If you are too close all of your Ps and Ss will sound bad. This mic isnt really even that expensive to begin with. however you hare paying a good 100 dollars extra just for the look. dont get me wrong this mic is all about look but if it matters that much to you i would go with the super 55. this mic is very quiet and has decent sound quality but you have to be so close to it and it builds up condensation. i would assume that is because it the diaphragm of the mic is not close enough to the front to capture sound at an optimal level. the mic looks great and it has a switch. but if you are planning on using it for performance or really anything that involves people hearing it i would steer away from it. i used it for 1 show and i wont ever use it again. personally i prefer a 40 dollar mic from radio shack over this one. its cool for a music video but wouldnt use it for much else. hope this helps ... Great mic for what it is

My band uses this mic live and it works great for us. However, we have a very retro/alt-country/rockabilly or psychobilly sound. SO the kind of flat sound is awesome for what we do. However, if you play modern music, it might not be the best mic ever. But if you want that retro vib, retro look, and even retro sound, it delivers better than anything that is currently being made, and actually sounds better than my old original version of the same mic.

I have had no problem with this mic. I have used it for multiple gigs. I play in a hardcore rock band and people can hear every word that I sing. Idk if it is the amp that I am using or what. All the other reviews say that it is hard to hear but I have had no problem whatsoever. Plus I love the way that this mic looks. I mean I have made extra money just because of the way that this mic looks.

Investing in microphone Impedance transformers such as the Hosa MIT-435 that guitar center sells on their website will make 55SH or any other type of mic universal to various types of equipment with outstanding results. Some situations straight thru other situations require the impedance transformer, you have try it one way or the other to obtain the optimum result. Not all mics have the same output impedance and the equipment the same input impedance that is were the microphone transformer is essential to expand the use of any microphone. I use the 55SH for karaoke and also use it for my amateur radio station voice communications its a outstanding mic for both types of single point uses one of which the microphone transformer is required. I recommend that anyone who has difficulty with the operation of the 55SH or any other microphone you ought to invest in a microphone impedance transformer. ... More

I read a ton of product reviews before buying anything but once I purchase something I always try to give back as well. The simple review is this.... is this mic ever so slightly inferior for both recording and live situations compared to an SM58, of course. But the only folks who can actually tell the difference are those whose lives actively revolve around microphones. 90% of the people you're playing music for don't care. That being said, they WILL CARE if you don't sound good no matter what mic you're using. A lot of people comment that they don't like the way this mic made their voice sound, and that may very well be true, but I have a deep voice and this mic really helped it cut through my band's live sound as it adds different frequencies to my voice tone. it's great mic, looks fantastic, but I recommend it more for hosting than for singing, it's a bit less quality than the beta 58, I love the on/off switch you can leave it open in the mixer and the artist can control when to be on or off, that's one of the main reasons I decided on this model rather than the other one that was upgraded, I live in Mexico, and got it from guitarcenter.com and by the way great store... they recommend what's best for you and not try to sell u the most expensive stuff

I purchased this microphone as a gift for "Professional" Western Swing artist, "Mikki Daniel." We took this microphone straight out of the box and put it on a Theater stage for her to perform a "Western Swing tribute to Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys" show in Waco, Texas! The microphone almost glowed when the spot lights aimed down at it with it's polished steel look, and it performed flawlessly with perfectly clear vocals!! I got this mic solely on how it looked and that it was made by Sure. The sound of this thing is actually pretty good, and it has foam inside of the shell so wind noise and "s" sounds are muted a little. The drawback of this thing is that it can't compete with other mics in terms of volume. When I'm practicing with my band, the vocals get drowned out even when turned up. The only way I can justify using this is with an acoustic set.

I see rave reviews for this microphone, and obviously I must have received a defective item, because I have never, in 38 years used a microphone as awful as this one. I have wanted this microphone for a long time. I mean, it looks cool as all get out, and live performance was built on this microphone. So, I plug it in and expect a great, booming signal... tinny as can be. No low end to speak of at all. I adjust the EQ to make it sound "decent", and as soon as I touch the housing, our local radio station breaks through louder than I can make my voice. What a disappointment! ... More

I love this microphone. it caught my eye as soon as i saw it, tested it out, and was amazed at it. it delivers quality sound, and is well worth the money. the weight and the fact the you don't put it on a clip is a little combersome, and time consuming. but the on/off switch prevents any extra sound from being heard. over all, a great mic

Very solid and well built. Similar sound and frequently response to an SM58, I discovered ... which is nice considering I've always used 57s & 58s for live vocals, so the quality of sound is what I expect from a Shure mic, just with the addition of vintage style (this was a gift for my band's vocalist, so I was looking for something flamboyant). So if you like the SM58 but are wanting that vintage look (and let's be honest, it's all about aesthetics here, that's what you're paying for), this mic does the job well.

we have 4 bands within our family and friends circle and we've had MANY microphones over the years but this mic has by far had the BEST sound quality of any we have purchased in the past. We have other Shure Mics and we like them all but this model is by far the best sounding, looking, and over all performing mic of all. We highly recommend this model to anyone who plays out and enjoys a great sound with their performance.

I use the Shure 55SH for college game Public Address. The sound is flawlessly clean and dynamic. I can't believe I went without this mic for so long. The sound is worth every penny. It is also the first mic people actually notice for its aesthetics. It gets compliments and comments every game. The 55SH is easy to set up and use and the on/off switch is quiet and much appreciated. I would recommend this mic to anyone serious about enhancing the art of athletic public address.

The sound of this microphone is very similar to most Shure unidyne models it has slightly less gain than modern day mics ie Shure beta 58. I have not found this to be a problem . It is a lot more fun to sing through and certainly gets you in the mood for delivering a performance from years before. In short it is a piece of yesterdays technology with good quality engineering , design and performance.

This mic is amazing!! It is the best mic ever. Not only does it have the awesome old school style look, but it sounds amazing. It allows you to mount it however you want and press up against it without moving. There is no feedback what so ever when I use this mic. I would recommend this mic to anyone that is looking for a very good quality mic for a great price.

In the short time that I've owned this, I'm impressed. It feels, looks and sounds like a quality microphone. I've thrown a lot at it in a short amount of time, and it handles everything nicely. As mentioned before on here, it does pick up a little bit of noise if you happen to move the mic stand without a quality cable plugged in, but it's such a minor issue, I couldn't find fault with it.

Great-looking mic when it is on a chrome stand with no boom. I use it with a chrome gooseneck so guitar-players can reach it, but keep the looks. Sometimes shared between two singers (and often used by performers with no mic discipline) the wider cardioid pickup is slightly better for my open mic nights. People always comment on the looks.
