These headphones do make justice to their reputation. After 100h of burning in, they are by far the best I have tried (and I have been listening carefully to headphones for more than 10 years). You should use a headphone amplifier. They are good without one, but brilliant with one. Also, very comfortable.

One of the best headphones ever, but it is hard to drive. you cannot use iPod or Laptop to drive it. With an dedicated amplifier, it will be perfect.

I have a pair of ATH-M50x that sound pretty darn good to me. But they're not very comfortable for long periods of time. I live in an apartment and if I try to mix for hours on my monitors, my neighbor will probably harm me. So I'm looking for extreme detail and accuracy in a pair of headphones. And I got it. At first, compared to other headphones, they may sound a little dull! My ATH-M50x definitely have bigger bass. More accurate bass? Probably not. But the detail really is incredible. It's easy to write these anecdotes as a dime-a-dozen platitudes, but you really can hear more detail because of the accurate frequency response. A song I've listened to 1000x on every platform comes through these headphones and all of the sudden, I can hear the metronome clicking during a lull! And really, for what they are, $350 for a set of b-stock is extremely affordable. I think they're great and would definitely recommend. Oh, and they're much more comfortable for long periods of listening. ... More

Using studio monitors in an acoustically perfect room will always be the preferred set up for mixing, but back to reality: Few of us have that situation. I struggled to mix with a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs cans that are great for tracking. But for mixing they were a nightmare. Low end was much more pronounced through my near field monitors than they sounded with those cans. I read up on these and am very glad I did. I find it much easier to get a nearly final mix with the 650s. Others have complained about the fit; I've had no issues. These are well worth the investment. ... More

The moment I put these on, I was instantly impressed and relieved: This was a great online purchase, sight unseen (unheard). They happily exceeded my expectations. I was not planning to take headphones in this price range to work, but now I'm not sure how I can exist without them. I prefer open-back, circumaural headphones for audiophile reasons and for the ability to hear what's going on around me in the workplace. These are a giant step up from the Sennheiser HD500s I was using. Made in Ireland.

I use the HD650 headphones with a newly purchased desktop headphone amplifier connected to my computer by a small DAC. Before purchasing the HD650, I was listening with the HD598 headphones. I thought they were a capable set of headphones, but when connected to the new amp I began to think I had purchased a lemon. The HD650s changed that perception right out of the box. The sound opened up, bass became more pronounced (not booming), vocals were given the prominence they deserved, and I haven't experienced any fatigue while using the HD650 headphones. The only complaint I have is that they do clamp down a bit hard and cause some minor discomfort over long listening sessions. I am very pleased with the high quality performance of these headphones. ... More

Bought these to upgrade some cheap Audio-Technica cans. The sound is clear, natural, and seems pretty flat/unhyped. It's sort of a the last 10% kind of improvement. Not excitingly noticeable until you go back to something else. They're super comfy to wear for hours in a row. I really like the earcup material - it feels substantial and they keep the speaker grille well off my ears. It seems like it would be nice to have a bit wider padding above the head to spread the weight out a bit. Kudos for the little notch in the headband padding for hanging them on a hook without smashing it down. As others have mentioned, the shiny plastic is a weird choice since it doesn't match the quality. And it would be nice to have the L and R more obvious on the outside. Put the model number on the headband and move L and R to the white highlight above the ears. The cable is solid, but it would be nice if it was a little more satisfying in the tactile department for the price. Overall I'm glad I bought these headphones. Definitely looking forward to many years of use. ... More

As a classical musician who regularly records CDs, I use headphones primarily for editing and close listening. The HD 650 was recommended to me by my producer, a 4-time Grammy winner for producing classical recordings. When I listen on other headphones, after a minute, it feels like my head was going to explode. These, on the other hand, fit comfortably around my ears. The sound quality is clear and true without any of that annoying bass pumping that seems to be popular these days. With the HD 650 you can hear everything, particularly on superb recordings with sophisticated mixes. And when you listen to music that you've known your whole life you hear instruments and melodic lines that you never knew were there before. I couldn't be happier with the HD 650. ... More

These headphones seem to physically disappear once the music starts. There is no barrier between you and what must have been in the composer's head. Sound is just beautiful through out the entire range of thses incredibly comfortable headphones. I've owned professional headphones before but these Sennheiser's are in a class by themselves.

I bought these for use with a FLAC/MP3 player and an equalizer. Most of my high and mid-tone hearing is damaged from listening to music too loud, working in a noisy environment, and age. These provide an excellent reproduction when used with the equalizer--else I couldn't hear those highs and mids--and they are my GoTo headphones whenever I want to listen privately. These are open back, so if one is in an area with ambient noise that noise will transmit through to the listener's ears. That's not a design flaw, it's the way they are meant to work. And no, they are not noise cancelling--you get the pure audio stream as it leaves the next upstream device. I would most highly recommend these to anyone looking for a high quality headphone to be used in an area with little or no ambient noise. ... More

I purchased these headphones for use in my sound classes. I really like these headphones and i am able to wear them for long periods of time with my glasses on. Since they are open ear for production sound they aren't the greatest since they leak, in and out. Its hard to tell if what you are hearing is from the headphones or just outside noise. For that i'll just have to buy a different pair that are closed. For my studio classes they are wonderful and i do not have to turn down the volume. Also i'm not isolated from people when they talk to me since I can still hear them...somewhat. ... More

I purchased these headphones alongside the Schiit Magni+ and Modi+ as my first foray into the high-quality audio space. I previously had Bose QC headphones, AirPods, and Powerbeats Pro, and I was deeply impressed by this new pair. First, they're incredibly light and breathable. I imagine it's partly because no batteries / Bluetooth module is needed in the headphones, so the overall weight can be decreased thanks to the cable. Second, the sound quality is amazing. I can hear a lot more of the features of music I'm listening to. It's always interesting when I'm surprised to find a new instrument or element that I couldn't hear on my earbuds. The open-back design was an experiment for me, but I've really liked that so far as well. Overall, I'm loving the headphones right now and am excited to keep listening to music on them. ... More

I tried the Sennheiser 600 and the 660, and like Goldilocks, I found the 650 to be just right. The 600 was nice but a bit soft and smoothed over. The 660 was too bright for my taste. I listen to classical music and I'm looking for clarity in all ranges, especially on the piano. The 650 sounds the most realistic , tone-wise, to me. I like the evenness as well- I rarely adjust the volume when something I am listening to has a wide dynamic range. All these headphones are very comfortable. The ear pieces do have a strong chemical odor which I am very sensitive to-I took mine out and soaked them gently in mild soap and water, then rinsed and squeezed them dry by gently pressing them on a towel. . They lost their chemical odor after they dried out, and no harm done. I think with time they might have out-gassed without doing that. ... More

I was looking into buying headphones to do ruff mixes when I am on the road. It was between the AKG K 701 and the Sennheiser HD650. I couldn't be happier with my decision. At first you need to break them in which might take a couple weeks of listening to music. As time goes they get better. I would recommend an external hi-fi amp to use with them. They can't run off your traditional computer headphone jack or ipod. I wear them for long period of time and are one of the most comfortable headphone to possibly wear. I would recommend this product. ... More

First off these sound great compared to the HD 555's they replaced. Honestly, the 555's are great for devices that don't put out much power. But when you give the 650's some power they really excel. However, I'm quite surprised by the average materials on the 650's. In my opinion my 555's have better ear cups and head foam than the 650's. At least on the 555's the 'HD 555' is printed straight onto the plastic. On the 650s the 'HD 650' is a cheap sticker that's obviously covering a screw. I was really surprised the 650s were not a step up in materials. Sound quality is great, but wow materials are lacking. Still 5 stars because I got them to listen to not to look at. ... More

The HD 650's are the bang for the buck headphones running through a Schitt Bifrost multibit dac and Asgard 2 preamp. The 650's are detailed and clear. I also own Audeze's and B&O's. The 650's are my choice for clarity, comfort. and price. At $315 these headphones are a steal. Some prefer the HD 600's. I can't comment on the 600's. They're said to be little more neutral in the bass department. I mostly listen to classical music and the 650's sound just right to me.

In addition to their incredible sound, they are comfortable to wear and reasonably light. They are just a bit bulky, but not unreasonably so, given the superb sound quality. I use sonarworks to tune my phones and studio and I can actually get an accurate mix just using the phones. In some ways I prefer the 595 at 60ohms instead of needing the powe to drive the hHD650. This is my third headphone. My first one is Bose QC15, the second one is BeyerDynamics 990 Pro. Among the three I found HD650 to be the most balanced one and least fatigue after hours of listening. The resolution is pretty good and not analytical at all. It does need long time burn-in in order to get good sound. It was muddy when I played it in the first 20 hours. After 200 hours, it is getting better.
