I had been scoping out this mic for quite some time. The reviews were all stellar. I ALMOST got it while our bassist was working at GC but he left the day I asked him to grab one for me so I waited. Admittedly, I had been using a cheaper EV Cobalt mic I got on a Stupid Deal Of The Day which "did the job" but I knew there was better. Seeing as I gig anywhere from 5-10 gigs per month I decided to go with it on the way to the gig. First off, I LOVE how it drapes over your amp for smaller venues. Our soundman LOVED the clarity of the mic and so did I. My "new" sound was inspiring and I felt I was playing on a new level. It made my Gibson LP and Orange amp sing through the pa and monitors. It was only a little over $100 and I should have upgraded a long time ago. ... More

I use this mic in front of my Mesa Lonestar to get my guitar through our band's PA. Of course, the exercise of micing an amp takes a bit of trial and error regardless of which microphone you buy, but once I found the sweet spot, the e609 did the rest. Through the PA mains (and through recordings), I've come to find the representation of my amp's tone is very true and clear. I'd totally recommend this mic to anyone looking to get their guitar transmitted through their sound system. I'd buy another one of these in a second; all I need is another amp =) ... More

Incredibly clear and balanced sound. I would definitely choose the e609 over an SM57 when recording guitar amps and acoustic guitars. The supercardiod is great for recording in a home studio where you may not have perfect acoustic treatment, as you can generally remove a lot of problems with correct mic placement. For the extra ten bucks I would choose this over the SM57, though if I were recording more drums I would have a couple SM57s as they tend to have a little more bass to them. The mic clip did break the first day I had it, so that is the only downside I've had, but still worth 5 stars. ... More

This mic is nice. I've heard some people say not to drape it over you amp and put it on a mic stand, but I've never had any issues with letting the mic hang down in front of the amp's speaker. Its well built by German's so you know it's not going to crap out on you. I doubt it is a rugged as an SM57, but few things are. I also understand that a lot of folks mix a SM57, and a Sennheiser e609 and get amazing results. Just my opinion but anytime you add a second mic you are just going to get more so I don't know if it's really just 2 mics making the beautiful sound or the mix of 2 different mics. Why not buy it and find out for yourself. ... More

This one of the best mics for amps. his design lets use hang over the cable. it produce a warmth heavy sound, perfect for reproduce the valve tube sound. The stand its ok, but the cable isn't the better. but it's a good package for the price.

Our band uses the E609 to mic the lead guitarist's amp. Even in the midst of the noise of the band this mic never feeds back and is crystal clear. There are more expensive mics but it would be hard to imagine one working any better. We place it about 2 inches away from the cloth over the speaker and about 3 inches away from the center of the cone.

Sound quality wise, I've used both SM57's and e609's live. The e609 gets better sound quality than the SM57 hands down. I was looking for a mic for recording guitar and after comparing the two onstage (while getting recordings of the shows from the providers) I was rather sold on the e609 because it got the low end of the guitar sound much better than the SM57. I don't feel that it's a very solid vocal mic, however, for that very reason. While guitars come out sounding great, vocals come out sounding muddy. For it's designed purpose though, 5 stars.

I've been searching for a great cabinet mic for a long while now. The Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone offers a great modern tone a lot of guitarists are looking for. If you're looking for a more classic rock tone I'd go more for the Sm-57. Like me however, a more modern tone will be without effort brought out with the Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone.

Using this mic and an SM57 to mic up a Peavy Twin Reverb style amp in my studio. What you hear is exactly what you will get. So make sure you work on your tone and sound since this mic will reproduce a very clear and rich version copy of exactly what you're hearing. We use it with an SM57. Also make sure to use quality cables for an optimum recording. Cheap cables will equal cheap sound and waste the entire point of using such a great mic.

This is a great mic for live and recording. I have owned it for a year. It captures my tone very accurately. One of the best parts about this mic (in my opinion) is that it is very sesitive to where you position it infront of the speaker. It is built very rugidly making it great for touring. I recemend this mic to anyone who is looking for a great mic for micing cabs.

I've finally found a mic that reproduces the natural sound of my amp.(mesa boogie markIII)My 57's always been pretty good to me but this thing just takes it over the edge. I get that warm fuzzy feeling during playback. Very very worth the money!

I bought one of these on a whim, cheap. I ABed it with another very popular mic (the upgraded B*** version) and was blown away. The 609 had a rounder, fuller sound without as many piercing highs. Hands down my choice for an inexpensive guitar cab mic. It even works on a bass cab if you back it away from the speaker a tad. Also much smaller than a lot of instrument mics, so easier to tuck in a gig bag or AKS.

I have a couple of these mics and they have been great for the applications that I have used them in. Compact so the stage stays clean and the response is nice. Lots of volume. I have replaced using the SM57's for micing combo amps with the e609's. I still love the 57's, especially for bass cabs and some other lower end sound signals. The 609's are just handy little mics that have become my one of my favorite new toys.

One of the best, hands down for snares and guitar cabs. Very versatile mic, used by a lot of famous musicians and for a good reason. Surprised the price is what it is for what you get, that is part of why it is so raved about. 57 are cool but these are my go to personally. I believe they sound clear and transparent, very versatile and have a good level to record or use live, one of my favorite mics I own

Read some reviews when searching for options to mic an amp, and a lot of them suggested this one. It’s perfect! Draped over the top, you can position it easily. Did a test recording in my condo where my son was on his digital drums with the monitor just above the amp & mic, and there was absolutely no bleed. I was blown away by the clarity and fidelity of the test recording. Really a fantastic mic!

Great Mic for recording guitars cabs and snares. I prefer using a stand with this mic. Hanging it over the cabinet on the XLR wire resulted in unwanted rattle caused by the microphone rattle-ling against the front of the cabinet. I already had a Shure SM57 and this is a good addition in the arsenal for recording different sounds.

Great dynamic mic in its price range. My favorite for guitar amplifiers. Especially when combined with another mic (SM57) and blended. Has an upper mid-range that I find lacking in the SM57. Both combined together, Fantastic!

This is the Go-To mic for guitar amps. Just position it to one of the speakers about two finger widths from the grill and off-axis to get a true sound of the amp. It will capture a truer sound than a DI. You can position it with a boom stand, or as many do, just hang it from the speaker cab, silver grill to amp. It is a SUPER cardioid pattern which rejects practically everything from the sides and back. Again, ideal for a guitar amp when you don't want bleed over from other instruments.

This is a classic guitar amp microphone. Sounds great with little EQ and doesn't require a mic stand. Recently I also picked up a Solo Mic Clip to use with it and I have no complaints. Before that the mic would spin around a bit if the stage wobbled or the mic cable was funky. I have also tried the 906, but I keep coming back to the 609.
