The sound quality of this mic is good, even when recording outdoors. My main complaint is that 1) there isn't a good way to change the sound levels of the mic - though that is probably more of an Apple problem than a fault of the mic. and 2) it doesn't connect if you have a case on your phone. My case is the slim silicon apple mag safe case, so I cant imagine that there is a case for which this would work. Not a deal breaker, but kind of annoying to have to take your case off before recording. ... More

Even if you're just shooting cat videos with your iPhone, which, admittedly, I am until my wife and I are on speaking terms again, this wonderful little microphone really cuts down on ambient noise compared to recording without it. If you can afford it, you should get it but, if you have any artistic sensibilities, don't attach it with your iPhone to the selfie stick of self-affirmation. Capture your surroundings and other people talking then engage this useful iOS-enabled recording device to record voice-over later, if you must.

Overall the Mic is good and connects well to the lightning port on my iPhone X. I couldn't find anywhere how to use the clip properly or what it even was for until I searched and found a photo of it in use. Sounds good and is much better than the internal mic however it will not work for my intended use as it doesnt work with the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 as I had hoped for.

There was no noticeable improvement in the sound quality indoors when I used it on an iPhone 11. I haven't tried it outdoors yet with the windscreen. And it is not secure on the phone even using the cap to hold it in place. I even put pads on the cap to see if that helped but it did not. Not worth the money.

I was excited to get the mic, but after trying it out with several apps i found that the mic did not have the gain that I was looking for. I was expecting to be able to use the mic like a shotgun mic to pic up sound that the onboard iPhone did not, but there did not seem to be much of a difference between the two.

I absolutely love this mic and would say it's the best purchase I have made to add to my videography business. I have had a ton of fun with family members experimenting from across the room with and without the mic and being in front of the tv with and without the mic and it definitely gave everyone the wow factors as to how great it works . No more miserable background notice to edit for me!

It works fine, but not much better than the built in mic on my iPhone 11. Slightly more directional, yes, but quality isn't noticeably better. Also frustrating because you cannot listen to what you just recorded without unplugging the mic from the lightning port. Lastly my phone doesn't like it because after I unplug it, the microphone on my phone gets warbly until I restart it. Weird glitch. Overall I'm lukewarm on it as a solution.

It's a nice set up for vlogging on iPhone; the only thing is that at vlog distances (arms' length) I did not notice such a tremendous improvement on the sound quality with my iPhone X's internal microphone vs. this microphone. But there was a slight improvement.

Rod always delivers, never have I used a rode mic and it wasn't absolutely superb. Only reason why it's a 4/5 star is due to the need of adding accessories to the mic like a pop filter and lightning extender if you're planning on using it with a case (I don't like using it with no case). It works perfect. The sound is crystal clear.

A worthless purchase due to the design of the mic. You can't use it with a phone case over your iPhone. I'm not removing my case just to use the mic. Very disappointed.

I'm quite pleased with this little microphone. It doesn't have to do much to improve on the omnidirectional microphone found on the iPhone, but this one does a lot! For any web content filmed on an iPhone, you can't go wrong! Very pleased with this purchase. Excellent little mic to keep in the kit.
Works perfectly for dog-training videos and voice overs

I bought this mic to produce dog-training videos. It works perfectly both indoors and outdoors. One tiny issue is the dead cat wind block shows up a tiny bit in the frame when using the wide-angle (0.5) lens on an iPhone 11 Pro. No biggie as I can crop it out. This mic also works well for recording voice-overs.
Workaround for docking issue.

My iPhone 14 is protected by an Otterbox. To overcome the mounting problem that the Me-L presents, I bought a package of two dock extenders through Amazon made by Desoficon. No need to remove the box or modify it to accommodate the mic. The set of two extenders costs $9.99. The mic works well in noisy situations. Some wind noise is apparent even with the "dead cat" windscreen.

I love my expensive full size RODE shotgun mic so I expected the Me-L to be a vast improvement on the iPhone 13 pro max mic. To my surprise, it was unusable. Low, low, volume and udible hiss in my head-to-head comparison. I had bought two and they both had the same hiss and low volume problem. I wrote to RODE. Crickets. Returning them thanks to B&H being the best place to buy equipment.

I got this to use the Merlin App on my iPhone (it identifies a bird by hearing it sing). This cuts out the road noise and birds behind me, because it is directional. I think I will get a Lightning female to male cord to give it some reach, as I am a bit concerned that the tiny Lightning connector is at risk of damage.

The microphone's performance is a little bit bit better than using my iPhone 12 pro built in microphone. If the individual is farther than 3 ft. the audio signal drops such that the recording picks up reverb or hollow sound because of room acoustics. A wireless mic is better for distances further than a couple of feet.

Phenomenal sound quality/improvement. I really bought this product for the wind shield, which looked like the best one out there. It's extremely effective and reduced wind sounds unbelievably. I use the mic and the wind shield every day and absolutely love them. No drawbacks of any kind. Well worth every penny.

Maybe my usage of this mic is a bit odd: I use it for recording bird songs as I am walking in the park. Because I put the phone w/ mic attached in a (large) pocket, take it out, hold it at various orientations, the mic seems to fall off the phone a lot. That's a drag. But the sound quality is good and certainly an improvement over the built in mics.
