I have only used this a few times so far but it works great for me. Sound quality is excellent and the system is easy to use. My only qualm is that it is hard to remove the batteries without damaging the springs on the negative battery poles in the battery compartment. This happens because the sliding door does not leave much clearance to easily remove the battery from the positive pole end. Both transmitter and receiver have the same issue. Not a big deal just be careful when removing the batteries.

We pre-ordered the RodeLink on the day that it was announced. We were extremely impressed with the price, and have exclusively used Rode mics in our production environment, including the Rode Lavalier, so had an idea of what to expect. The delivery date was pushed back a couple of times, but once it arrived, I kinda knew what to expect from reading other previews. Once powered, the TX & RX units paired automatically, and started feeding our SoundDevices 633 (with the use of an XLR adapter) immediately. The only thing I was perhaps surprised about was the slight plasticky feel of both the units. It's not to say they're low quality or not durable, but compared to Lectrosonics units used in my previous job, there was no comparison in feel - but also no comparison in price. The included lav mic appears to be the same as the Rode lavalier that we have been using as a wired lav mic for some time, and is of excellent quality. Perhaps the only thing lacking is a slightly better storage solution for storing the mic & accessories than the pleather bag provided. ... More

It sets up fast. Kind of clunky but it works. Build quality is questionable. Purchased (3) sets. One set has a mic jack that is almost impossible to use. Another one has the cover slip off. The worst is yet to be. All of the units have TERRIBLE static noise rejection. I can hear on EVERY CHANNEL pops and squeaks like a toy CB Radio. But the adapter cable is HORRIBLE! I mean it SUCKS! When I try and use their cable the signal quality drops by HALF!!! So it is built poorly, makes noise, has bad cables giving rise to hiss. NOT a good combo. Sound is REALLY important to Pros who want the sound so perfect that you DO NOT have to do post. Well almost none anyway, because time costs MONEY. Yes, I realize that the units are perfect in the open fields, Yards, Nature. But I have to Mic Reality Stars, Actor interviews. These are usually done WHEREVER necessary. Buying some Sennheiser sets. Should have done that to start. ... More

I use this to record interviews with family members for inclusion in a family video. It is very easy to use and worked right out of the box. Sound is natural and the link between Tx & Rx is solid. The Lav mic is like a small miricle as it delivers voices which, to my ancient ears, are perfectly drawn. There are no XLR connections. In the battery compartment, both Rx and Tx have pair buttons for changing channels while the Tx has a signal boost switch and the Rx has a signal limiter switch. I haven't used those controls as levels, as set, are fine for what I do. The Rx unit has a small display which shows the channel being used, both Tx & Rx metered signal levels and battery status for both units. The Tx display shows the channel being used. The Tx & Rx are fairly large as their antennae are internal and, although the design is rather slick, I have a feeling that they might not survive very rough treatment. Were I to change anything it would be the on duration of the Rx display. I realize that in dimming the display battery life is extended but I would have it remain bright substantially longer. ... Not much to say that hasn't already been, but the performance is worth the rating. Works as promised: Check.. Fair price point for single unit: Check.. Straight-forward operation / ease of use: Check.. Holds battery life (for ages): Check. Has made my life easier: Check. Disclaimer: I'm not a sound professional, I'm a solo camera operator. I have a pair of these that save me time and time again. They pick up what I want and leave the rest out. I find both the operation and pickup to be natural and rarely do I have to clean up what's recorded. Usually it's because of an error on my end, anyway.. It's not the same as true xlr, but pick up a 3.5mm to xlr adapter for connectivity if needed. A pair of aa batteries in each pack will last for hours of actual usage, with a sound meter and battery levels on the RX. There might be gripes to be had by those with more experience and knowledge than me, but I'm very pleased with this unit and feel it deserves five stars. ..For me, it's set it and forget it, and I would pay twice its price for that peace of mind. ... The is a well thought out system, except for one thing. If you pair the receiver to more than one transmitting unit, you cannot undo the multiple pairing. The result is a button on the top of the unit that can be easily bumped in the sound bag which toggles between channels and drops audio. This could easily be fixed with a factory setting refresh option or a firmware update. However, Rode has been unresponsive to those requests.

I have two pairs of these, and have been using them for a couple years now. They worked great initially. After a few months, things started breaking down. Customer service was solid with warranty issues each time, until the most recent go-round. The replacement mics they sent (two in the span of a couple months because they are beyond fragile) hissed horribly. I tried them on other wireless units I have (Sony) and the had the same hiss there. When the cheapest mic I have was paired with the Sony, the hiss was gone and things sounded great. The jack that the mics plug into are also trash. One pulled out completely on a shoot. Rode repaired it. When they do stay in the unit and the mics are plugged in, a slight nudge in any direction (talent shifts/walks/breathes) makes these things crackle and pop. Ive switched back to using my old tank (Sony) on all my shoots. I cant trust these at all. ... More

I pre-ordered this back in March and it just came in today and I have to say it's an amazing product! The receiver and transmitter packs are a bit bigger from just looking at the pictures but it's really not an issue. The new wireless system works incredibly well and is very easy to set up, especially when you're on the run. I've tried this right into my Canon 5D as well as my Zoom H4N and surprisingly the 5D audio sounds great as is! Not much noise because of the preamps in the camera so even if you don't have a Zoom this should sound great. I mainly film weddings so this will be absolutely perfect for the ceremonies. Haven't tested the signal from 100+ meters but from what I did test it sounds great and I had zero drop outs. Can't wait to start using this more and for the price it's by far the best system to get right now. ... More

These are incredibly reliable, are simple enough where anyone can figure it out, and the transmitters and receivers are up to par for even the highest end productions. The only notable downside I would say is that the transmitter is a bit big, would be nice if they could bring the size of it down. I actually misplaced my receiver and just recently replaced it with a whole new set since I got it for a great discounted price - going to buy another receiver so I have two sets. I've owned the Sennheiser G3 and I would pick this up instead if the size doesn't matter. The audio will be very clear, but if you want to hear a more full sound on pro speakers/etc. you'll have to spend more money to upgrade the lav. Also, I highly recommend the Rode Invisilavs add-on for anything outside of broadcast use. ... More

My review is tempered with the knowledge that I have only used the Rode wireless setup one time on assignment since receiving them. Compared to lower-cost wireless mics (you know the ones), these are very good. The setup for them is very easy, and you'll be up and running in no time, straight out of the box. In the one assignment I've used them on, I heard no dropouts, pops, or hissing that I could detect. The audio -once imported into Audition and/or Premiere Pro- did sound a little on the treble side. That very well could be the mic that comes with these, which does have a very thin wire on it that you have to treat gently. Very easy to fix for the overall voice sound (treble) in Audition. I used them outdoors at an urban in-town farm, with distances ranging out to about 100 feet. Rock solid. Overall, I'm so far impressed with these Rode units. Ease of use combined with a good signal and sound, means they will only improve my shoots going forward. I recommend them. ... More

I've had the Rode Wireless Filmmaker Kit for about 2 weeks and have done a few projects so far with it. I find it very easy to work with, build is good, and its easy to setup. The sound quality is awesome for this price range, and it suppresses background noise pretty well. I'm also getting NO noise with this system so far. I use an XF300 with XLR inputs so the adapter is not the problem as some other reviews suggest. Keep your gain down, and let it do the work, not your camera. The XF300 preamps are excellent, but I also hooked it up to my XA10 which does not have the 300's preamp capability, and had no issues with noise. ... More

I love every bit of this mic system except the receiver's mount. It even superbly performs indoors without interference from our WIFI system. And is easy as pie to use. However, why Rode decided to put a round cold shoe mount on the receiver rather than a square one baffles me, On my camera the short spiral cable from the receiver to the XLR jack pulls on the receiver and rotates it so the back screen is no longer facing me - no matter how tight I turn the plastictightener (I hate plastic tighteners) down to keep it from rotating. A square cold shoe adapter would have solved the twisting. Also I feel like the transmitter and receiver are kinda large for what they do. I'd have preferred they were half their current size. ... I really wanted to like these, I ordered 2 of them, after a couple of months both of theCaptive TRS Cables stopped working. On one of the TX units, where the mic connects it just spins, so I can't remove that mic at all. I'm a fan of Rode and have several other products and love them, I'm just really disappointedin the build quality of the connections, also themic cable should be a little longer but that's minor. The range on these is good, the sound quality is even a little better than my sets of sennheiserwireless mics. I don't mind that they are a little large. I think the people at Rode skimped on the production of these, I wish they didn't. I would pay a little more for something thatsdurable. ... More

I accepted the limitations of this system up front because of its price and the fact that it uses digital transmission. But after a few years of use, I can't say the trade-off is worth it. One of the two included mics was bad immediately; it produced hiss and crackling that rendered it useless. Rode replaced it promptly without a hassle, but now the second mic has failed. It would have ruined my last shoot entirely if I hadn't also been running a shotgun (also a Rode) on a boom. Obviously you should run a backup, but come on; in some situations you really want the characteristics of a lav mic. This is a widely reported defect in these mics, so don't take it lightly. It's not worth looking incompetent and wasting the work of your talent and crew. Yes, you can get third-party mics. But these units are also VERY bulky. They pair readily and are easy to use, but they're big and heavy. This presents obvious challenges for many shots and costumes. ... More

Pros: - Digital signal links up very quickly and easily, no hassle. Audio quality is good. - Great battery life, and it's great that I can monitor the transmitter battery life from the LCD on the receiver. Saves me the apprehension of not knowing when the other battery is going to run out of juice. - Fantastic price for what you get. Cons: - Larger than the Sennheisers I'm used to using. The size makes it a bit harder to hide the transmitter, especially when the subject is wearing a dress or has no pockets. - This is nitpicky, but those little rubber stoppers on the back of both units (made for protecting the mount threading) keep falling out and are pretty much uselss. ... After only two sessions the mic failed, and a call to a B&H audio expert ended with a suggestion to purchase a new Rode lav at 60% the cost of the system ($). Stupidly, I did that and the new, more costly mic isn't working either. My emails to Rode went unanswered and when I finally got through via chat, their solution was to direct me to a Q&A page. I have another shoot tomorrow and am high and dry... This could have been a great system with some better attention to quality.

This is a very good wireless microphone with great sound quality. I've already used it for several weddings and corporate shoots, and the results have been very good. My previous wireless was a sennheiser ew100 G3, but the audio quality of the rodelink is better and cheaper. There really is no competition at this price point. There are a few cons. The redolence has internal antennas which makes the transmitter and receivers bulky, but it's not terrible. The build quality is a little on the plasticky side, but still very reasonable. The biggest issue is the 3.5mm adapter that go to the receiver. I received a damaged one, and it resulted in lots of white noise and crackling. I resolved it by getting another adapter, but i'm still very wary of this adapter. really wish that the mic could plug straight in. Nothing major, but i also wish that an xlr-to-min cable was included for the receiver. ... More

This originally shipped with a lav mic that picked up some minor but very noticeable interference from the digital transmitter. I contacted Rode right away and they sent out an improved replacement lav that works perfectly. They were easy to work with, personable, and fast. The mic is here and this kit now sounds great! We got this to replace one of our old Sennheiser G2 packs. The sound easily rivals that mic (we plan to use the Rode as our A mic now). The body pack is a bit bulky by comparison but doesn't have an antennae sticking out (which is what went bad on the Sennheiser). The build quality, though plastic does feel very solid. We're very happy with this kit, and are especially happy with the price. ... More

I was a little concerned with running the audio into my camera as I've been burned doing that in the past but the RODELink mic system performed flawlessly. Its light weight and sturdy, though not as robust as its much more expensive counterparts, and simply put, it gets the job done The audio I captured, after setting up my camera inputs, was solid and most importantly my clients were happy with the end result. This is great for the application I just described, I haven't tested multiple mics running into a field mixer but I can't see why that would be an issue.
